Question Looking for a reliable used car under $4–5K in the GTA. Any dealership recommendations?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a used car under $4,000–$5,000 CAD for daily commuting and occasional driving around the GTA.

Preferably a fuel-efficient sedan, ideally white, silver, or another light colour, but I'm flexible. I'm okay with 150K+ km as long as it's mechanically reliable.

I only plan to keep it for 6–7 months, so I don't want to spend too much or take out a loan. I understand my budget is tight, and I'll be getting a third-party safety inspection.

I've been checking AutoTrader and CarGurus daily, but haven't found much. I also had a bad experience with my previous car because I didn't get it inspected by my own mechanic before buying and ended up selling it at a loss. Definitely don't want to repeat that mistake.

Any recommendations for trustworthy dealerships around the GTA? Good or bad experiences are welcome. Also open to private sellers if anyone has leads.

Thanks in advance!

General Are we heading towards a Muslim council?

Post image

Saw this today. Seems like someone is trying to push the Arab and Muslim community towards a Muslim council. How about we vote not based on race but on the candidates platform instead. I know there are some non Muslims on the list but thats only because there are no Muslim candidates for those particular seats. Get out and vote people! Your voice matters and can make a change!

This intersection is absolute chaos during the morning commute. People constantly pull dangerous U-turns and block oncoming traffic just for a hit-or-miss Tim Hortons coffee.

Question Plumbing/ Bath Room Leak Question

Hi All,

We got an old house in Oakville and the bathtub above our living room seems to be leaking water into the drywall. We hear water dripping anytime someone uses the shower upstairs and we can see cracks on the dry wall
Is it best to remove bathtub and check for plumbing issues or to open up the dry wall in the living room that has a crack.

Any recommendations for a good plumber and contractor around Mississauga, Oakville, Milton and the GTA would be appreciated

Rant Rob Burton signs on property associated with Midtown Development

Post image
0 Upvotes

Found this little diddy on facebook.

Rob Burton campaign signs are up at the Remington Homes sales centre in Oakville. Remington is connected to Distrikt Developments who is a partner in the contraversial midtown development.

Remington president Christopher Bratty attended Doug Ford’s daughter’s wedding during the Greenbelt controversy. Ford’s government issued Zoning Orders affecting Oakville’s planning process enabling greater development density.

Burton endorsed Ford in 2025. Now Peter Turkington, communications director for Ontario’s Progressive Conservative Party, is managing Burton’s mayoral reelection campaign.

Who authorized the signs?

Does their placement indicate developer support?

How is Turkington’s campaign role funded?

Has Remington provided other assistance?

Question Pool services shops recommendations

Hi folks, we have a salt water pool and in the last 2 years we have been using an independent crew to open and close the pool as they are cheaper. I decided to switch as they don’t respect the schedule. Always late or miss appointments completely. This fall I went with Ultimate pool where we do weekly water testing as it’s close to us. The experience is mixed. 1) one of the lights was not working and I asked them to take a look when booking the appointment. But when the crew arrived, they acted as they did not know. I mentioned again and they said they would take a look and let me know. But after they finished, they just left leaving a sheet on the door without talking to me about what was going on with the light. 2) they charged me a water bag without asking. I understand its owner’s responsibility to provide all the equipment. But it doesn’t mean I give consent to be charged with anything that isn’t there. They should have asked. I actually keep water bags in another place but I totally forgot about it. I called the office to give my feedback. I did not ask for a refund or anything as it’s not a huge deal. The manager’s attitude was a bit aloof and response was standard. I think I may look into other options. Could you please share some places with good customer services?

r/Oakville Dashcam witnesses Oct 14 Third Line

Asshole rear ended me and drove off. He was polite enough to ask if i was okay :) we were parked at a red light northbound on Third Line, right where Glen Abbey rec centre is, then i felt a jolt and realized someone hit me. I believe he was merging from the left turn lane into my lane (middle lane) or he was merging from behind me and into the right lane. Regardless he hit me. My license plate was completely crushed and the right rear is all scraped and scratched, the front driver side of his hood is folded in… sooo he was merging and hit me. I luckily was started to inch closer to the car in front, so I was able to miss his car a bit and have it be less impactful, but i think he mistook me increasing to inch closer (to 4km mind you) as a sign that it was a green light, which i’m sure you can guess, it was not.

I said what happened, he replied “idk i went to stop i’m so sorry” in which I said “did you even try?”. bc did you?! his response: “my brakes gave out idk”

Anywho, he says let’s move to the right lane (we’re literally in rush hour sir we’re not gonna cause traffic more traffic right there) so then he says let’s turn left and pull over. So I go to the left turn lane which is wide open, and he’s following behind, inch into the intersection (it’s acc a green light for us now) and turn left. As SOOON as I turn, i look in my mirror, and he’s merging out of the lane and back into the middle lane (the same way he hit me) and goes straight north on Third line to upper middle.

sooo if anyone has dash cam footage of this greasy guy on Third line and Merchants gate at around 5:36 pm in a blue (i think Mazda sport) license plate DKNE (i think) that mistook my small stature for innocence and i probably dk wtf to do, i’d greatly appreciate to prove him wrong. thx

Question Ontario Racial Discrimination Incident Map

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m an East Asian person living in Ontario, and I’m interested in gathering information about the experiences of visible minorities and immigrants who have faced racism, discrimination, harassment, or felt unsafe in different Ontario communities.

My goal is to create an interactive map documenting reported incidents of racial discrimination across Ontario, which I would update annually. I hope this project will help raise awareness, identify potential patterns, and provide useful information to minorities and newcomers.

Unfortunately, I have personally experienced several incidents of discrimination. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I was threatened because of my ethnicity. I have also experienced situations where people refused to serve me, made me feel unwelcome in churches and community organizations, or refused to collaborate with me in professional settings.

These experiences have made me wonder how widespread these issues are and whether certain communities have recurring problems that deserve greater attention.

I would be very grateful if you could share your experiences in the comments below.

If you feel comfortable, please include:

Town or city: Where did the incident happen?
Region: Which part of Ontario?
Ethnic or racial background (optional): How do you identify?
Incident: What happened, and approximately when?
Impact: Did the experience make you feel unsafe, unwelcome, or discriminated against?

You do not need to share your name or any personally identifying information.

My long-term goal is to compile these experiences, identify recurring patterns, and share the findings with elected representatives and relevant organizations to encourage greater awareness and accountability.

I believe that documenting our experiences is an important first step toward understanding the challenges that racialized communities face in Ontario.

Thank you to everyone willing to contribute. Your experiences matter, and I hope this project can help make our communities safer and more welcoming for everyone.

Question Root canal pricing?

I have to get a 4-root root canal treatment done and the endo quote is just shy of $2k. That's not including the crown to be done by the dentist... probably another thou right there (or more?)

Just wondering if anyone has recent experience with a similar procedure and could share what their ballpark cost was, or provide insight on whether it's worth it to shop around or if this is typical pricing.

Damn teeth...

Question Moving to Mowat Ave area / River Oaks PS question (Transition to Sunningdale FI?)

Hey everyone,

My family is looking at a place on Mowat Avenue and our daughter is slated to start Junior Kindergarten in September 2027. We aren't Catholic, so our designated home track for JK–Grade 1 is River Oaks Public School, with the ultimate goal of moving her over to Sunningdale Public School for Grade 2 French Immersion.

I’ve looked at the Fraser Institute rankings and noticed River Oaks sits a bit lower than some other schools in Oakville, but I know rankings don’t tell the whole story.

For parents who have kids at River Oaks PS or who did the exact JK-1 jump over to Sunningdale:

  • How has your experience been with the Kindergarten program and teachers at River Oaks?
  • Is the transition over to Sunningdale at Grade 2 pretty smooth socially, or is it tough on the kids to switch schools so early?
  • How is Mowat Ave / this specific pocket of River Oaks for a young family? Are there plenty of young kids around on the street, or does the demographic lean a bit older?

Would love any honest feedback or chatter on the neighbourhood vibe and the schools! Thanks in advance!

Lost/Found Stolen Golden Bear Leather moto Jaket.

I was playing the open mic tonight at the moonshine cafe on speers and Kerr. In a rush to get my guitar from the car I forgot to lock my doors and some one stole a Golden Bear Moto Leather jacket.

Size S

Its a special collaboration with Club Monaco.

This isn't the same jacket but its the closest resemblance to what it was.

If anyone sees it at any style encore or anything let me know I'd like to get it back it has sentimental value to me.

Thanks!!
