Discussion Uni nowadays is a SCAM

Imagine pulling all-nighters just trying to get an A, only to end up with a B because of the bell curve.
Then you start applying for jobs, and employers don’t actually give a shit about your grades. They tell you, “The knowledge you learned at university isn’t really transferable to the workplace. We need someone with at least 3 years of work experience.”
Alright, fair enough. You realise that grades alone aren’t enough, so you start grinding even harder.
Fast forward 3 years. You’ve graduated with first-class honours, completed 3 internships, joined a bunch of extracurricular activities, and somehow managed to maintain a decent social life (or maybe not).
You think you’re finally ready for the job market.
But guess what? ChatGPT 8.0 just dropped.
Now employers are telling you, “Sorry, we don’t really hire fresh graduates anymore. Most of our junior positions have been automated by AI. We’re looking for experienced professionals instead.”
So how the hell are we supposed to gain experience when nobody wants to hire people without experience?
Universities tell you to focus on your GPA. Employers tell you your GPA doesn’t matter. Career advisors tell you to do internships. Internships ask for previous internship experience.
And just when you finally meet all their requirements, the requirements change again.
The funniest part? You’re paying tens of thousands of dollars in tuition fees for the privilege of participating in this endless competition.
Everyone tells you to work harder, be more competitive, learn more skills, get better grades, network more, and somehow stand out from thousands of other students who are doing exactly the same thing.
It’s literally an arms race where everyone keeps investing more time, money, and effort, but the reward at the end doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
I’m not saying education is completely worthless. But at what point did a university degree go from being a pathway to a decent career to becoming the bare minimum requirement just to get your foot in the door?
Are we actually studying to build a better future, or are we just running faster and faster on a treadmill that’s going nowhere?

Misc How many cigarette-equivalent smoke particles have we breathed in?

Hey there! I am just another bored Singaporean that has personally felt that the latest shift in government message to 24h PSI and 1h PM2.5 has unintentionally deflated the raw numbers we have been observing daily, and has also just been a bit disorienting for those of us that grew up with our old 3h PSI numbers throughout the mid 2010s haze period.

Thus, I just made a small project that does the following:

  1. Bring back the 3h PSI as an indicator that can be viewed (using the old 3h PSI formula based off on PM2.5 concentration)
  2. Adding a 1h PSI indicator (which converts the 1h PM2.5 into our PSI scale, as I feel the PM2.5 scale is frankly quite confusing with weird bandings)
  3. Draws directly from the NEA API which allows it to be updated quicker than the official NEA haze site.
  4. Has a not-so-fun conversion of our haze into equivalent cigarettes smoke daily

I would love to get more feedback on possible functionalities, and hopefully this helps you with clarity as much as it has done for me!

Question survey if you’ve taken Singapore Airlines before

Hi everyone! 👋🏻

We are a group of students from NUS Business School conducting a survey on travellers' air travel experiences and preferences when flying with Singapore Airlines. ✈️

It takes around 10 minutes to complete and there are no right or wrong answers. Responses will be kept anonymous 😁

Thank you so much!!
