I remember when Younghoe Koo was just entering the NFL, he had clips like these going around too. He was a good-okay kicker if I recall, but ended up not really having an extraordinary career.
The thing I remember most about him is when he was signing autographs at training camp I think, and when a fan offered him a zyn pouch he popped it in his mouth with no hesitation.

He was great for awhile. These guys don't really get the chance to be bad for very long.

I know, but why call it ball if not ball shaped?
0
u/Appropriate-Bird-354 22h ago
Because it's by definition a ball - same as rugby balls.
It doesn't have to be perfectly spheroid.

Simply commentators talking out of their ass.
For as many of them that play golf you’d think they’d know how to talk about kicking.
A righty pulling it right? Come on. lol
2
u/King_Roberts_Bastard 1d ago
Yes...its called prediction. If its a good snap the kicker expects a good spot. In this case he knew the ball was moving and planned for it.

Id argue that it's easier to hit the middle of a smaller target. He hit the middle of your huge set so arguably more impressive
-17
u/Strange-Cloud9287 2d ago
Nah, it basically eliminates the pressure of the goal posts, so all he has to do is hit the target he's picturing in his head.

Highschool is like 24ft wide and College/NFL is 18 or something like that

I mean clearing the posts is impressive, but the other aspects are things if you break them down you could probably pick up in an afternoon or over a weekend if you have a good baseline of football skills.

These people think it’s so cool to call soccer football, hilarious.
The better sport gets the name, only people with the minds of children are entertained by some swarthy Eurotrash jogging around while people rave about a high scoring 1-0 game
Here in America that’s just what we have our kids play until they develop the precise motor skills and complex decision making abilities for real sports that are actually fun to watch.
6
u/VanillaLoaf 1d ago
And then they can develop CTE and go medically bankrupt. The American dream!
-2
u/KennyShowers 1d ago
Psh my kid won’t play it, plus I live in NYC youth/HS real football doesn’t really exist.
After he grows out of soccer he’ll play baseball maybe basketball.
4
u/OgLikeSmash 1d ago
So fun to watch that 2 minutes of a game is 8 seconds of gameplay, 30 seconds of players strutting around, and 82 seconds of ads?
2
u/Appropriate-Bird-354 1d ago
The game is designed around set plays, the pauses are part of the game.
That's part of why it's so entertaining to watch, the strategic / intellectual side of football is extremely intensive and fairly easy to follow along with.
1
u/ProbablyAnAlt42 12h ago
You've got about a 10 percent chance of any soccer game scoring 0 to 0. Nothing happens for like 90% of the game and then they rag on football for having snappy plays that have a lot of shit going on in a short time.
1
u/The_Common_Peasant 1d ago
That's because its only called Soccer in the States, most everywhere else its call Football, because football was the original. Football as we know it in the states is an entirely American invention. Also incredibly pretentious to try and say that the "Real Football" is the game where the ball hardly ever comes into contact with your foot. There's a reason why Soccer is an international sport while American football isnt.
2
u/Appropriate-Bird-354 1d ago
because football was the original
There are numerous games called "football".
What Americans call "soccer" was called "Association Football" originally, shortened to "soccer".
It's perfectly reasonable to call it soccer. That's how language evolves.
Also incredibly pretentious to try and say that the "Real Football"
They're only saying that in reaction to other people saying the game they call football is the "real" version.
Neither is the "real" version, they're two different evolutions of a game with similar roots. Both are perfectly valid. You're just as pretentious as the person you're criticizing.
game where the ball hardly ever comes into contact with your foot.
There are no crickets involved in the game of cricket. No rugs involved in the game of rugby.
Names for communal activities like sports often have unusual etymology, they're not intended to be technical. No one was judging the name based on the technical percentage of time a foot was in contact with the ball.
The game is played "on foot", hence football. The name was derived from "rugby football". Americans didn't even originate it.
There's a reason why Soccer is an international sport while American football isnt.
What reason is that, specifically?
Relative global popularity of a sport doesn't make it valid or invalid. Everyone is free to play the sports they enjoy. Who are you to say otherwise? What insane arrogance makes you think you get to dictate that?
1
u/ProbablyAnAlt42 12h ago
Shocking to me that there are still people who think Americans named either sport. Weird names are literally always the fault of the british. They love bizarre little nicknames over there.
2
u/KennyShowers 1d ago
The people who invented the game called it soccer. If they didn't want their game called soccer they shouldn't have called it that.

I don't understand American football, but I'm a lifelong football (soccer) fan. In football, there are 'freestylers' who can do a ton of cool looking tricks with a ball, but none of those skills tend to translate well into actual play.
Can someone who understands American football confirm if this is the same case? Or if those skills are actually useful in the real sport.
1
u/ProbablyAnAlt42 12h ago
Getting the ball spinning like that would literally never happen in game. Once it kinda stands still and he kicks it, thats basically just a normal kick but without anyone/anything holding it.

Is this like a 90-yard kick? Why are the comments all weird and not even talking about the distance?
We can ignore all things and just talk about the distance and that appears to be 10 plus yards from the opposite end zone so are we to believe he kicked a 90ish yard field goal?
1
u/polar_nopposite 2d ago
All you need is an O-line that can protect you for... 11 whole seconds. At least you have an extra dude to help with that!

Why don't they hire strikers from Football to play in American Football? The whole thing of football is being excellent at shooting at a goal, and this one is both unprotected and extremely wide.

You're brain so fucked that someone who only has to kick a ball for a living, doesn't learn how to do this, with showing the one that is successful?
imagine Tiger Woods be able to do crazy stuff on the golf course?

This belongs in the circus.
Try scoring a free kick at the World Cup Finals, with billions watching. Then we talk.
17
u/idekbjlmpau 2d ago
That's a small group of people considering nobody has made a free kick in the World Cup Finals and penalty kicks to end the game have only happened three times.
But sure, try to make contrived comparisons so you feel better about yourself
