But at the beginning of episode 3, that scene at the meeting, where the expert and the protagonist want to convince everyone that there's a monster in the water, there's a television in that place AND THEY DON'T SHOW THE VIDEO! I was like, "WHY DON'T THEY SHOW IT?"

Discussion Best of the Best critique is getting out of hand

I’ve seen a of the critiques now especially social media for some creators that felt that credit was not given. This all seems a little blown out of proportion. Like now they have to give credit one person for a traditonal draping style 😭 or certain moves for a dance choreography people feel like are “stolen” without credit.I totally understand giving credit to artists but at some point you can’t give credit for every single thing that could’ve possibly inspired any part of a costume or dance move. Not to mention a lot of these people did get credit 😭idk what more they’re expecting. Especially considering the people making this movie have done more than most to highlight south asian representation. It all just seems a bit blown out of proportion.

Discussion East of Eden left me with more questions than answers Spoiler

I just finished East of Eden, basically watching the entire series within 24 hours, and I can't stop thinking about it.

The family dynamics, relationships, heartbreak, mental illness, and generational trauma were probably what captivated me the most. What I loved is that the show didn't always give us easy explanations for why these characters became the people they did. We watched their childhoods, trauma, relationships, and mistakes slowly shape them, and then watched that pain get passed down to other people.

Adam and Charles are probably the best example. They grew up in a home with very little love, under a father who constantly created pressure and comparison between them. What frustrated me is that Adam experienced firsthand how damaging that was, yet eventually recreated some of the same dynamics between Caleb and Aron.

I really wish we had gotten more of Charles. I kept expecting him to reunite with Adam and eventually meet his nephews, so his death genuinely surprised me. I also wanted a much deeper exploration of his relationship with Cathy. Cathy seemed to show a warmth toward Charles that she never had with Adam, almost as though Charles understood a part of her that Adam could never reach.

I'm still unsure how I feel about Charles appearing in Cathy's imagination. The Charles in her mind didn't seem like the actual Charles we knew. He was much darker and constantly encouraged her worst thoughts. I almost interpreted him as something Cathy's damaged mind created rather than Charles himself.

Cathy was probably the character I found the most disturbing and fascinating.

I hated many of the things she did, but I also found myself having compassion for her without excusing her actions. We see the traumatic experiences she endured growing up, and I interpreted her character as someone whose trauma and mental illness eventually became something incredibly dark within her.

There are still things about her that I don't understand. Why did she allow Adam to build this entire fantasy of marriage and children when she clearly didn't want that life? Why have children knowing she planned to leave? And why did she seem capable of showing Charles affection that she could never show Adam?

Her suicide also made me wonder whether there was still some capacity for love or guilt buried inside her. If her sons truly meant absolutely nothing to her, why did confronting the consequences of everything she had done affect her so deeply?

Then there's Adam, who honestly frustrated me more than Cathy sometimes because Adam knew what it was like to grow up in a damaged family.

He knew what comparison between brothers could do. He knew what emotional distance from a father felt like. Yet he still repeated so many of those patterns with Caleb and Aron.

I understand that Cathy completely destroyed him emotionally, but I also think there came a point where Adam had a responsibility to pull himself together for his children. Cathy shot him, abandoned him, and left him with two newborn babies, yet she continued controlling his emotional life for years afterward.

Most importantly, I think Adam should have told Caleb and Aron the truth about their mother.

And this is probably my most controversial opinion:

I don't think Caleb was responsible for Aron's death.

Caleb made a cruel decision in anger by forcing Aron to confront the reality of their mother, but Aron's death was the end of a domino effect that started long before either boy was born.

Cathy abandoned them. Adam hid the truth. Aron built an idealized understanding of his family. Caleb shattered that illusion.

Putting all of that responsibility onto Caleb felt incredibly unfair to me, especially because he already spent so much of his life feeling like there was something inherently wrong with him. I was actually surprised that even Lee seemed willing to place so much responsibility on Caleb.

If anything, I think Adam carries much more responsibility for what happened to Aron than Caleb does.

Speaking of Lee, he was easily my favorite character in the entire series.

His wisdom, vulnerability, humor, and emotional intelligence made him the glue holding the Trask family together. I especially loved his relationship with Hamilton. Watching Lee realize that Hamilton was genuinely interested in understanding him and then reveal his American accent was one of my favorite moments of the show.

Their friendship was one of the few genuinely warm relationships in an otherwise incredibly dark story.

Lee's own story was heartbreaking too. I wanted him to open his bookstore and finally build something completely for himself. Instead, racism and the restrictions of that period made the life he imagined much harder to achieve. Yet he eventually recognized that being with Adam, Caleb, and Aron was also a life he genuinely wanted.

The thing that ultimately devastated me was watching Caleb and Aron's relationship end up resembling Adam and Charles's.

Despite growing up wealthy, educated, disciplined, and cared for, they still inherited the emotional wounds of the generations before them. That's probably what I took away from the series more than anything else: financial stability and a "good" home can't protect children from unresolved generational trauma.

Almost every tragedy in this story can be traced backward.

Aron and Caleb's relationship connects to Adam's parenting. Adam's parenting connects to Cathy, Charles, and his own father. Cathy's behavior connects, at least partially, to her childhood and psychological deterioration.

One person's unresolved pain becomes another person's burden.

The ending wasn't satisfying in the traditional sense, but I don't think it was supposed to be. To me, the series was ultimately about truth, choice, vulnerability, and what happens when families refuse to confront painful things until it's too late.

I'm really curious what everyone else thought, especially:

Do you think Caleb was actually responsible for Aron's death? How much responsibility do you put on Adam? And what did you make of Cathy imagining Charles?

Discussion I need someone to create a network that picks up all the amazing shows cancelled by Netflix because they couldn’t get 100 million views in a day

Mindhunter, OA, Kaos, etc etc I am SO TIRED OF GETTING INVESTED FOR NOTHING. Do you guys remember when shows would go on forever, longer than they should have? And now we get an absolutely amazing first season of an amazing show and it gets cancelled. There is so much creative potential. I don’t want another reboot, i want original shows with PROPER ENDINGS.

Discussion More Haunted Hotel

I’m just posting this to let yall know if you cancel this shit I will cancel my membership. Too many times has a great adult animation been stripped from us. Of course we all remember Inside Job, and not animated but Mind Hunter. Lesser known Trese was absolutely fantastic as was Midnight Gospel, Dead End, Agent Elvis, Exploding Kittens, Scavengers Reign, and Strip Mall. Let this be a lesson. You need time for shows to grow and I REFUSE to let you take another. Give Haunted Hotel the legs it needs to be a Big Mouth or a Bojack. While I’m at it - don’t you dare cancel Mating Season either! Stop taking what’s good and giving us trash!! Make a good god-damn show. I’ll pay your fees and your mark ups to watch this show once a year. I know I’ve been delinquent on payments before, these times are tough. I know it’s hard to ask to choose between you and eggs, but I will choose you!! Just keep this show going. That is all.

Question The accents in “Below”.

At first, I thought Irish, then I hear “sorry” and instantly thought, “oh, Canadian”, but now I’m just completely and utterly lost.

I’m Scottish and generally pretty good at picking up accents, even from specific city’s, regions, etc, but I’m sitting here wondering wtf is going on here. Can someone care to enlighten me?

I loved it and highly recommend it-you have to see it. Sometimes, a true story can teach you more than any book , from changing your habits and gaining a better understanding of the world to questioning everything you thought you knew.

Discussion Below - is it just Free Willy? (Spoilers) Spoiler

At times I thought this show was Jaws, then Contagion, then Titanic, then The Ring, then Sirens, but in the end, I think it was just Free Willy. At the end when he was pulling the iceberg out to sea as the sun was setting or rising or whatever, I swear I could hear Michael Jackson playing in the background.

Discussion Ridiculous twist in The Chestnut Man S2: Hide and Seek. (SPOILER) Spoiler

I really loved The Chestnut Man season 1 and was delighted to see that there was a season 2. The series is based on two books by the author Søren Sveistrup, the man behind the hugely successful TV series The Killing / Forbrydelsen.

However, halfway through the season, Netflix chose to KILL OFF their main female character, which makes no sense. First, it doesn't happen in the book. Second, it has no significant dramatic effect and just seems like a random accident.

What is even worse is that in the book the series is based on, the main female character (Naia) not only survives the incident, but the author is also writing more books with her as the main character. Netflix just shot themselves in the foot (?) by letting the showrunners be GoT wannabes, and then cutting off future seasons based on the coming book(s).

Please enlighten me if there is something I have gotten wrong. I cannot find anything about the actor of the main female character wanting to exit the series, which is the only thing that would make sense.

What made the series truly great was the dynamic between the two leads. Killing her made the show annotated without any upside. I would be hoping for more seasons, but now... Idk. They seem to be setting up a new female lead though (Sandra). It could work, but I just really don't understand why.
