WWYD? Vent/Rant How to deal with Karen next door?

We bought our home in 2020, and unfortunately the neighborhood Karen lives right next to us. He's been nothing but a nuisance since we moved in.

Our first interaction was him scolding me for not throwing snow into his yard when I shoveled out my driveway for the first time. But it's gotten much worse.

A few years ago, we got solar panels on our detached garage. He complained to the town that they "caused glare and we don't want to have to put shades on our window". The installer commissioned a 3rd party glare report to prove it wasn't true. Town never verified, but told us to move the panels.

We did, and soon after we were approved, they were mysteriously turned off. The technician was surprised because someone didn't throw the obvious cut off switch; there's a second, failsafe recessed switch designed in a way that animals can't trip it. That also means you can't see that it's been tripped, and resulted in having to pay the utility for power for 2 weeks.

We can't prove it was our neighbor, but no one else had any reason to touch it, nor any reason to know it was there. So we got a camera and for some reason, haven't had any more issues with that. Imagine that.

We hired a landscaper to clean up our yard a bit. The landscaper wanted to take down a weed "tree" from our yard. Karen came out to scream at him not to touch their "shade". We played nice and told him to just leave it. Even tried to build bridges by sharing homemade bread, and grilled chicken when their friend walked up to the property line to say our food smelled really good.

We were polite and let the neighbors know about landscaping work we were pursuing, including dry wells to mitigate stormwater runoff. He shrugged. No objections at all. This was over a month before applying.

We were denied permits for a patio as part of the project and sought a variance. Karen told us a few days before the zoning board meeting that he was going to speak against us because "dry wells don't mitigate stormwater, they make it worse." He waited until we paid for the application to object at all.

At the meeting, he opted to lie under oath: he falsely claimed our other neighbor was opposed to our project, but was too old to come speak against us. Those neighbors strongly support, and have been encouraging, our project. He also claimed that our driveway and garage were dumping catastrophic amounts of water on his yard that threatened to destroy his shed.

With the help of an engineer and a planner, we got a unanimous yes on our application. Enough dry wells to bring our impervious cover from about 70% down to about 50%: both neighbor stand to benefit greatly. It's a tiny yard, our experts all said this was overkill compared to the patio we were requesting. We also included a drain to explicitly mitigate stormwater where it's worst.

After months, we finally started work a few weeks ago. Our landscaper needed my car out of the driveway, so I parked on the street. Karen has 4 cars on the street, for the 2 drivers in their home...

Part of the project involved an electrician: we had to move the power line going from the house to the garage to make room for the drywells. The electrician had to confirm the power was off and physically disconnected at the house and garage so the landscaper could move the cable to another trench. That's all. 15 minutes of work.

The electrician had parked in front of Karen's house. Karen came out to scream at the crew, demanding they move because his wife was coming home with groceries. Didn't ask, just barked at them. The electrician was done before he finished ranting. Then he started asking how I'd feel if he started parking in front of my house, and then kept ranting when I said I wouldn't care because it's a public street.

Today, the landscaper finished pouring cement: the bulk of the drywells are under the driveway, fed by drains. Two across the driveway, a ditch around the new patio, and a downspout from the house. Our camera got a shot of Karen's kid kneeling in the grass with a laser level because Karen thought the driveway "looks sloped towards my yard." Yelled at my BF for it while he was taking out the garbage.

Landscaper did string leveling and followed the engineering plans to conform to the driveway he tore out. He raised it at the back to aim water into the drain. He offered to come back out immediately to confirm the neighbor was full of shit: he confirmed it was level, matched the grading he was required by the town to follow, and then took the tape off the drains since the concrete had set enough. The town also inspected before he poured concrete and confirmed he was doing the work correctly and according to the engineering blueprints.

But Karen ranted at him while he checked his work. "I can see it's sloped towards my yard. I didn't have any problem with water coming off their driveway before. If I get water in my yard from this, I'm calling the town. And my lawyer."

I'm not particularly worried about him following through: I have the transcript from the variance meeting where he claimed to be getting catastrophic amounts of water from our driveway, and an official copy is maintained by the town. So if he does convince a lawyer to sue, he would either be admitting to perjury at the zoning board meeting, or committing perjury with the complaint. He's just really obnoxious.

How do you deal with a neighbor who enjoys lying to create issues to be mad at? It's frustrating, and killing them with kindness has done absolutely nothing.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Neighbors are livid and acting out about fence

This issue spans a year and a half. I’d prefer to not move - we fixed up this house so it’s 100% updated. My question is, I know that I can’t stop people from acting ridiculous, but what can we do aside from blocking our neighbors out to force them into compliance/ get them to leave us alone?

For context, we have an easement on our land that allows a neighbor to access their landlocked property. We have a survey, we haven’t don’t anything against the deed, I’ve had 3 lawyers review all docs to ensure I’m not going insane and in the right. The township also noted we are within their ordinances and have done nothing wrong - even their solicitor reviewed everything and confirmed we are within our rights. We owe them access - they want unrestricted access and extending their use of our property as staging, parking, etc. IN MY FRONT YARD. Nothing in the deed indicates that is within their rights.

I have a timeline, cameras, downloaded clips and police reports to corroborate all of their behavior and the slow progression of changes. We really tried to give them a chance to do better. We were honest about our concerns.

The neighbor has a high volume of traffic - fine. However, they travel down this gravel driveway at a speed that tosses gravel into our yard and kicks us dust. We have small kids. Before just fencing we talked to them - give them a chance to know what’s going on and work together so it works for everyone. Immediately didn’t care. Immediately started spinning tire to kick up rocks and speeding because they knew we were worried. The neighbors AND their guests all do this. They also turn up their music at the top of the driveway at night and sit just to wake us up. They turn it down pulling out onto the road. I have cameras and videos of everything - police didn’t help much there but did finally help with spinning tire because it happens around my 2 year old.

We spoke to them 4 times. They never ceased. We never escalated our behavior, only began avoiding the yard and them as best as possible.

After months of being patient and slowly adding additional safety measures, we ended up installing a simple field fence to keep our son off the driveway and across the area of our yard they were using for parking. They were meeting up with people at night (think 11-2) and waking us up. Either way, I don’t want strangers on my yard for any reason at any time. This lady also goes to other neighbors to try to get them to go against us. The township has had to tell them all multiple times we didn’t do anything wrong, get a lawyer if you’re mad, and that they can’t do anything to help them.

They aren’t happy despite never having access removed. They and their guests continue to speed and spin tire, play loud music, and will give us the finger in front of our kids. I know the kids don’t get it yet, but I choose what’s ok for them. We are going to privacy fence the entire way up to block them, since they are triggered by the sight of us. We are allowed to do this and will go to the township to ensure our plan meets ordinances to be 100% on that side. They will 100% be mad about a privacy fence - at least we can use more of our yard and get to our cars without them seeing us.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Disturbance from Laughter Therapy

Every morning, a bunch of old timers start their laughter therapy sharp at 6 30. They cackle and scream so much I have stopped setting an alarm in the morning. I have tried requesting them to muffle a little, but they pulled the Marathi card on me about how outsiders like me have no say in this and me spoiling Pune as an outsider.

I even told them that I end up sleeping late due to work schedule but these oldies tell me to leave my job amd find something 9 to 5.

This has been going on for 3 months now amd I wake up every morning with an irritation.

Looking for ideas from the community in stopping them or at least making them amicable enough?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Am I wrong for asking neighbors to not keep their trash bins in our entrance path?

The set up: My partner and I live in the back house of a two-house rental property. Our neighbors, a family of five, live in the front. Diagram here.

- Yellow lines: Our property line

- Blue: Their property line. Their gate faces the public sidewalk.

- Yellow highlight: walkway to our house.

- Parking area: Our car is the one by our walkway, their car is the one on the other side.

When they moved in without trash bins, we temporarily moved our three bins from our yard to the walkway whose only purpose is to lead to our house (yellow in the diagram) so they could use them while they waited for their bins.

Five months later, they ordered and received six bins (twice the local allowance) and put them in that walkway. We moved ours back into our yard and asked them to move theirs too because of the trash issues mentioned below, but they refused.

The issue: Their bins frequently smell like rotting garbage (they throw out lots of meat), attract swarms of flies and maggots, overfill to the point of the lids not closing, and leave pieces of garbage on our walkway. We walk through the flies daily and have stopped inviting guests over.

They refuse to move the bins because they entertain almost weekly, use their front yard for seating, and need space for a large sukkah during holidays (Jewish.)

Their POV:

They shouldn't have to compromise their outdoor entertaining space to store garbage. The bins don't physically obstruct our walkway. We only ever walk by it momentarily (not fully true.) And since we previously kept ours there, they argue we've established a precedent.

My POV:

I completely understand not wanting smelly garbage near an entertaining area. We don't want it near our entrance for exactly the same reason.

TBut they generate and control the garbage, while we bear the consequences without being able to control how it's managed.

They could potentially use a far corner of their yard (white in the diagram), adjust their entertaining setup, or improve their trash management. I'm open to any solution, including keeping the bins where they are if they eliminate the excessive flies, maggots, odors, and overflowing waste.

From my perspective, their preference for keeping their yard pleasant shouldn't mean our household has to deal with their garbage problems every day.

AITAH for thinking they should accommodate their own garbage rather than expecting us to accommodate it?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Have you ever lived in a place where you had terrible neighbors and your HOA did nothing and you had to move?

It’s gotten so out of hand that my new hoa president is under federal investigation. HOA is beyond corrupt. No chance that my nfh will be evicted after 4 years of bs. Has anyone been in a situation where they felt squeezed into a corner?

I’m just going to focus on moving at this point. I feel like I’m suffocating in this place because there’s no order or justice.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Just made things worse

There is a neighbor whose yard is visible to mine. A handful of times in the past 2 years they have burned plastic and other inorganic (bad smelling) things in a barrel in their backyard - against local ordinance. FD came out once at another neighbor’s request, but the guy didn’t quit. We mostly grumble about it over text and try to shut our homes as much as possible when it occurs.
This week, he started a new activity doing firecrackers in the middle of the day. While annoying, this is mostly offensive as I have a dog who gets absolutely stressed out by this. I tried shouting out my window today and yesterday, with phrases like, “Hey cut that out!” “Why are you doing that?”
Yesterday that seemed to stop it, today it did not, so I went out. He was jawing with someone on his phone and on seeing me shouted for me to go back indoors. I shouted that I didn’t like this, it’s not fireworks time, that he wasn’t being a respectful neighbor, that it was scaring animals. He repeatedly told me to F off, told me to take my fat ass back inside, and eventually went indoors himself when I called the local non-emergency — I was ultimately not wanting to send a PO but wanting some assistance as I felt out of my depth. As he went indoors he yelled that I better not walk my dog past his home again.

I know now that I’m not working with someone who is going to be responsive. There have other times they will wave at me — especially if their partner or other neighbors are around - as if to garner positive attention to themselves. But I live on this block. My dog and I walk daily - I don’t have a problem not walking their curb - we already avoid their grass 80% of the time because a previous (early on, first year we were here) occasion when he attempted to appear to back up quickly as we walked past their driveway entrance.

Small old school neighborhood. Renters and owners. My other backyard neighbor who shares a fence with the subject - went out immediately after this shouting and threw spent fireworks shells back over the guy’s fence, I suppose in response, and the subject must have seen my backyard neighbor and began calling him out for returning the shells or something- I watched my backyard neighbor shrug and point deferentially at the ground. And then my backyard neighbor approached their shared fence and at least stood by for the subject’s rambling. So I don’t think this is something anybody else will speak up about.

How would you handle this? (Edited post body for clarity)

Vent/Rant My downstairs neighbors are disrespectful, help!

Second floor tenant, with husband and cat, moved in 7-1-2026 beautiful fuckin house. Downstairs unit consists of an ex-marine dad w/ a 15(f) and a 9(m) children.. The daughter has smashed my flowers, stolen planters, let boys in through my garage (so her father won't hear -her admission!)

Hubby and I were drinking beers in the yard on the fourth of July. Girl and friend came to the fire pit to chat, asked for a beer after some time and I said yes. Stupid me. Two days later she asked me if I could buy her some buzz balls, and I said no. Shit went downhill fast. Missing flowers and planters, she even stole the Ring camera off my front porch . They receive govt assistance, fine. Food pantry drops off canned goods every week or whatever, fine. I ordered a door dash of lunch meat and bread and spreads and all the fixings for mine and hubbys lunch, even timed the delivery perfect so I would be home roughly as delivery was happening. I catch the dad rifling through the shop rite bags not a minute after delivery. He snatched the bags and brought inside his domicile. When I confronted him he rambled about the food pantry and he thought it was his delivery. He returned to me after asking three times for my stuff but of course there were missing items. He even apologized for his daughter's behavior regarding the Ring camera, and said "I told her that next time she has to be a better thief and not steal a camera!" WTF???@@@!!!

There are cockroaches everywhere. We share a basement and garage space, washer and dryer (mine)!is in the basement. They use my dryer because I can tell from the lint trap.

Landlord is 75F old as chool German - Genevieve. She told us (practically begged us) to be patient and tolerate them until December and she is not going to renew their lease. I believe her but IDK IF I CAN WAIT UNTIL THEN!!!

I don't even know if this.makes sense anymore, I'm rambling lol but here's the TLDR neighbors are thieves!

Vent/Rant A 10 year old neighbor who can’t sing

I have dealt with every neighbor. The one with the parties 24/7, the one who drills at 4am, the one with the dog barking all night and even the fighting couples. But NOTHING COULD PREPARE ME FOR HOW BADLY A 10 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO CAN’T SING WOULD HUNT ME. I know I sound dramatic, but she practices every day for hourssss. And it always the same song on repeat over and over. If she had a pleasant voice, sure, whatever. But she’s singing off key and doesn’t even realize it. Again, her dream is to be a singer and she practices usually around 9pm-11pm ish. But we have thin walls and I like to sleep early. I want to complain to the parents, but I also don’t want to ruin a 10 year old girl’s dream and be the reason for her not believing in herself. I know it sounds stupid and like I’m overthinking this, but I’m scared that if I comment on this she would get embarrassed and stop practicing all together, and I don’t wanna be the one crushing her dream cause she really is working so hard for it and going to voice lesson. Also my husband sleeps like a brick ✌🏻🥲 my rant is over

Apartment NFH How to record upstairs neighbors?

I’ve reported my upstairs neighbor, who chooses to walk/stomp/drop things/move things/workout starting around 10:30pm and ending at 3am, continuously. Day in, day out. The apartment wants recorded proof, but no matter what I try, I can’t pick up the noise because it’s impact vibration noise as opposed to airborne noise.

I’ve tried my iPhone, I’ve tried a handheld voice recorder. I’ve tried taping them to the wall as close to the ceiling as possible. I’ve tried running a mic as close to an air vent as possible.

I feel like I’m going to lose it. I don’t have the means to move.

Any advice?

WWYD? Vent/Rant I called the cops on my roommate....

This happened a few years ago when I was with my ex and I still can't believe I even needed to do this. My ex and I broke up and I didn't want to move back into my parents house and didn't have a job. I posted on facebook if anyone was renting rooms out. A church friend I was close to reached out and stated he had 3 bed 1 bath available. I thought it was a blessing in disguise, but boy was I wrong.

I explained I didn't have a job and I had a child with me. He said that was fine as long as I cleaned around the house for him until I found a job. Eventually after 2 months he was able to get me an interview at a vet he worked at. I was finally working and making money to pay him rent. He didn't charge me too much and was very nice. The best part is he worked a lot to pay for his house so I was always home alone with my child. I was there for 8 months. I was allowed to have whomever I wanted over so long as spicy time was in my room and nowhere else.

Things started to change when my ex (father of my child) and I tried to work things out. I told him I wanted to start back slow and treat it as if we were dating again before we jump back into a relationship. He agreed and we started seeing each other again. He'd come by the house and hangout a lot seeing as I had his child. We finally talked about moving in together and getting our lives together and renting. He was over a lot more at this point, stayed a couple of times but he didn't move himself in or anything just spending a lot of time with us.

My roommate noticed this as he was home a lot more during this time. He mentioned we should move out together to which I agreed because that's the plan and we were looking around for a place. His demeanor changed a few days later to a point he was demanding me to move out because he didn't like my ex being at the house. I explained we were working things out for our kid and I paid rent and could have whoever I want around. It's not like it was someone I didn't know. We didn't have any lease or what not written up so of course he could claim anything. But I had mail going to the house as well as a key to get in which proved I was a resident.

Shit hit the fan after my ex stayed one night. My roommate came up to me and said "I don't appreciate you having your ex over here after I told you I don't want him in my house. You have 3 days to get out of my house or you'll find your stuff in the trash. I will change the locks and the security code if I have to." I still explained I paid rent and he also has to give me more than three days to get my things. He was very adamant that he would be locking me out after the third day. I even told him I could have everything out that weekend and he said that still takes more than 3 days. I said fine you wanna play like that, I'll play.

Sure enough the third day goes and I'm headed back to the house that Sunday to gather the rest of my things. He wasn't home but I figured I would cover my butt and get the cops involved so they don't arrest me. After all he said he would be changing the code to the security system and they'll get called regardless. I drove to the police station and informed the cop I need to be escorted to my current residence as I am trying to move out and get my things. I explained my roommate didn't file the proper information for a legal eviction and I need a witness to go with me.

I gave the cop all the information and they confirmed he didn't have the right to keep me from my things if I have proof of residence (the mail) and didn't get served a legal eviction notice which still gives you 30 days to move out. The cop escorted me to the house and I showed him my key and where the extras were to the house. I explained there was a security system and it's possible he changed the code.

We got into the house and I went to turn off the alarm and as expected it was changed. Then my roommate called me cussing me out for being in his house after he said I wasn't allowed. He then threatened to call the cops and I said "they're already here." My dad and my ex showed up with permission from the cop to help me gather the rest of my things. As we are loading up the trucks the cop is talking to my roommate explaining my rights as a resident and his failure to file proper documentation to evict me.

Yall, this man LEFT WORK to come harass me while I'm trying to get my stuff and be done with this mess. The cop informs him to leave us alone then proceeds to ask me if this can be the last day I get my things. I look at this cop and said "that was the plan, but according to my rights I have 30 more days if I need it." The cop put his hands up and stepped back almost as if saying "yes ma'am" I continued gathering my things with my dad and ex. The whole time my roommate is mouthing off to us and trying to get under my skin. He then starts telling my ex I was sleeping around and had guys over. I laughed in this boys face because duh? we were split up, I could do what I wanted.

The cop didn't do much except keep my roommate from touching me or getting in my face. Turns out they knew each other which is why he was allowed to verbally harass me. I finally got all my things out and told my roommate he was crazy and really needed to grow up. You'd think this would be the end of my story. Don't forget I work with this guy as well so of course more things followed at work.

I had to tell my manager what happened and how he may have a different attitude towards me. I explained I'm all for being professional at work but I will notify her if he gives me any issues. Well I ended up having a kennel day with him that weekend. A kennel day is when we are closed for business but two techs show up to take care of the kenneled animals that stay over the weekend. So far he didn't give me any problems, he had his headphones in and we took the dogs out and fed them. He had to give a few of them baths during our shift and I ended up getting stuck in one of the kennels with a very big dog.

I called for him but he couldn't hear me on account for the headphones. I called his phone as I still had it and it went to voicemail. I guessed maybe he blocked me after our previous weekend situation. I was stuck in the kennel for the rest of our shift. He never found me and didn't seem to care that I was missing. He left me at the clinic and locked up without even making sure I was behind him. I eventually got the bright idea to climb over the giant kennel gate to get out. I then texted my manager and explained I will not be doing kennel shifts with him due to him leaving me in the kennel and not making sure I was out of the clinic before he left.

My manager actually took his side in a way and stated that makes it very hard to accommodate because other employees have issues with others and trying to accommodate everyone would be difficult. I expressed what he did is a lot more dangerous than some petty behavior the other employees had with one another. She eventually agreed and I didn't have to bother with him. More and more things got unbearable as the weeks went on. He was being so childish and ridiculous. My last straw was when he let a dog BITE ME. I was trying to do a nail trim on a very mean great dane. The owner refused to put a muzzle on her which meant she might bite us if the other person doesn't hold her right.

Well he was in charge of holding her head with his hands. As I'm trimming her nails he started acting like he was struggling to hold her and let go of her head. She whipped her head around and latched onto my arm closest to her. I was able to pull back fast enough that she didn't break the skin. I threw the nail trimmers down and just said I'm not doing this. I sat in the office and told my manager and she finally realized that his actions were going to cause a worker's comp situation if she doesn't talk to him.

She eventually talks to him and tells him if he can't let go of the situation that happened and keeps putting me in danger over something so petty he will be fired. He finally accepts that he has to be nice to me and does his job right. Luckily I didn't get many more days with him. He finally quit because I guess it was just too hard not to hurt me. He was absolutely the most craziest person I've ever had to deal with. I have not seen him since and don't plan to.

I almost wonder if he had a crush on me and thought he had a chance to be with me. I was not interested in him what so ever. But I do remember him claiming I was seducing him because he happened to see me walk from the bathroom to the bedroom in a towel. Only did it because I didn't know he was home. Super creepy and uncalled for.

Hope you enjoyed a slice of my life. I have so many crazy stories. I'll be sharing more soon.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Is it my neighbors first day living near another human being?

I have been living in an apartment complex near a university for grad school which is popular with other students and early career professionals. The man who lives next to me is someone who I can only imagine has never had anyone tell him to consider those around him.

Every single day, I would see him leave miscellaneous items and bags of trash outside his door in the hallway where they would stay for weeks at a time. Anything he’s too lazy to walk the 10 steps around the corner to put in the trash room, just sits and stinks up the hallway for weeks. I’ve tried talking to him but he never answers the door. I’ve been complaining about this to the office and it got to the point where he was fined and threatened with eviction. Even still, I see him leave trash in the hallway overnight.

Recently he’s taken up new hobbies like watching YouTube videos of people going through drive-thrus at max volume and commentating on their order in the middle of the night. He has also started fun new home construction projects including drilling and hammering our shared wall at midnight as well. I have tried talking to him but I think he’s scared of confrontation. I’ve already complained to the office about his noise, but is there anything else I can do?

Apartment NFH Neighbor above me has toddler screaming in the middle of night/early morning. Sleep deprived, what should I do?

I get it, and I've tried being understanding that kids will scream and it's difficult for parents to control. The past few weeks their kid has been crying and screaming non stop, I can hear them belting out lullabies to the kid/sometimes yelling, and LOUD slamming and stomping above me. Last night was extremely bad, like kid having blood curdling screams at 12:30am and 7am. I didn't get as much sleep last night and am upset. But I also feel bad because I'm trying to be understanding. Is this situation something where I should say something because I am being effected by the screaming?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Horrible neighbor and unhelpful cops

I've been having an issue with my neighbors for two years. We share a driveway and he has blocked it and used it for himself entirely since I first moved here. About one year into living here I asked if he could leave my side accessible so I could park off of the street. He told me no. He threatened me with a bill since he had poured some concrete so it was easier for him to park his car and I said I would pay it. He sent never sent it. He then threatened to dig up the concrete, never did that either, just kept parking in the middle of the driveway. He's run over potted plants I tried to put out, he's thrown garbage on my lawn, he's put nails under my dads tires, he's thrown my trash cans off the curb, he's sprayed my dad with a water hose, blocked my house guests car in on the street with his spare vehicles (he has several) forced me out of parking spacing by driving towards my car, and so many more things I can't even remember. This behavior has been almost a daily occurrence for two years and every time I call the cops I get conflicting things. One officer will say to call anytime something happens, another officer will say there's nothing they can do and to stop calling. I had spoken with an officer about harassment and when he said he would follow up with me (gave me a time and day that he would call back) he ghosted me. When I spoke with him again because he came out to another thing I had reported he got mad at me for asking about the harassment we had spoken about two months before and said it wasn't his responsibility and that I shouldn't rely on him directly, when I had been told by dispatch and people at the physical department that they couldn't connect me with another officer because it would confuse them and they could only forward me to this officers mail box. I don't feel safe in my home anymore (I'm a female who lives alone) and I feel like I'm getting help from nowhere. I've basically been told by everything officer "sucks you have a bad neighbor". Is this not enough of a pattern of behavior to establish harassment? Does he need to beat me up for me to be taken seriously?

WWYD? Vent/Rant Loud neighbours

I have owned my property for two years. It’s a small terraced house, that backs up entirely onto another house. I had no issues with ANY of my neighbours whatsoever until earlier this year. In fact, I thought the walls were super thick. I don’t know if someone new moved in, all I noticed is a new car. I haven’t actually seen the people.

I know it’s a couple. I hear them slamming their kitchen cupboards on a daily basis, to the point where if I’m working from home, my microphone picks up the sound. As mentioned, it’s a SMALL house, there is NO way that they have this many cupboards to open and close continuously. I haven’t seen them to confront them, and I do not feel safe going over there in case the man opens the door.

I can hear the woman giggling when she wakes up at 6am, I can hear them opening up their wardrobes. Worst of all, which I don’t want to hear, is the ridiculously loud sex noises that come and back up onto my bedroom almost every night. They have woken me up many times, I’d be in deep sleep, and the noises would be so loud I’d jolt awake. Why should I have to think about wearing ear plugs to sleep in my own home? It’s just ridiculous.

What are my options? A lot of the times, I will snarkly tell them to shut up at night, but I don’t know if they can hear me. One night, when I got woken up at 1am on a weekday, I have banged on the wall. It’s continued.

What are my options? I have such hate towards the fact I can’t relax in my home. TIA

Homeowner NFH Angry neighbour

Hello everyone. I'm looking for advice with my angry neighbour. I live alone in an apartment and my downstairs neighbour is a man who has a history of altercations with prior occupants. He is extremely sensitive to noise and yells profanities (very loudly and aggressively) whenever I drop something on the floor. It's a carpeted apartment. If it's the bathroom something as small as a hair clip will make him react. I'm a very respectful neighbour, and am careful not to drop things or make noise. I work 5 days in the office, I am out a lot on weekends and don't have guests at night. His presence has made me feel like I'm living on egg shells and I'm not sure what to do next. Thanks in advance for any advice on how to deal with this. WWYD 🩵

Vent/Rant Worst Kind of Neighbour

Just need to rant.

We’ve lived beside these neighbours for quite some time now, but why do people think it’s fair to play music all the time? I feel like I can’t even relax in my own home at this point.

The cherry on top is that they never seem to leave. The whole family stays inside all day, just playing music, whether it’s quiet or loud. It’s non-stop, and I genuinely feel like I’m losing my sanity.

We’ve already spoken to them and asked them to turn the bass down, but after that, we ended up facing harassment and retaliation for two full years from her son (I’m not entirely sure who it was, but it was definitely one of her kids).

I genuinely just needed to rant because I’m at my breaking point. I’m hoping to move as soon as I can.

Sending positive vibes to anyone else experiencing this. 🙏

Apartment NFH Slamming Doors w/ Newborn Baby

So to trail off the previous post I made a few weeks ago in which my NFH called me a "fat wh0re" and knocked on my door because he assumes I reported him for excessive noise (I did but mamagement keeps all complaints anonymous).

So now they have a baby.... the same chick who would smoke outside on the patio with belly and all while pregnant. They came home yesterday and the chick was vaping while the baby was close to her.....the baby looked so fragile, small and sickly which is sad to see....yet, these same neighbors stomp and slam doors all the damn time. Despite them having the baby in the home, the guy living there still is slamming doors and stomping like crazy. Like how tf is that baby getting good sleep with that loud mf is beyond me....

It's one thing to be loud and an asshole around everyone else but when you have a newborn I think slamming doors and stomping should probably come to a stop, no?? Oh well I just got more earplugs off amazon so at least I wont lose my mind from slamming doors and baby crying

Homeowner NFH Nut-job neighbor and his dog harassing the neighbors

So for about 4 years now I bought my first house. I moved in and started my family. We have 3 kids. Cut to about the second year of living here. The neighbor to the south of me was calling the cops on about everything he could.

He decided to put his own fence up and had someone mark the property lines. Turns out the fence we share didn't line up with his new fence. He mows the paint up and decided to put it on the property line which he cannot do without my permission. He trespassed onto my property to mow my grass about as flat as he could while I was at work so I couldn't do anything. Then screws some ghetto ass brackets into my fence which is shared. Damaging my side of the nice vinyl fence we have.

I decided to just make the best of it and enjoy him staying on his own side. Next year the dude is harassing the neighbors constantly in several ways. Making his dog bark at all times during the day, flying his drone around within his property to make his dog bark and pointing the camera at my kids. Which earned him two disorderly conduct charges still pending.. he also calls all the neighbors fat, drunks and druggies. But not to their faces. He hides behind his fence and constantly pisses everyone off. I've even caught him playing car alarm noises out his window at 5 am.

The neighborhood is full of great people that are respectful and we are all somewhat good friends except for this douchebag. He calls the cops on my neighbors vehicle every time he doesn't move it within 3 days. The worst part is the cops today tried to give him a ticket. However the bad neighbors vehicle has not moved for months and is not even up to date on registration but the cops won't do anything to his car.

The moral of the story is people are sick of him and are ready for him to leave. His bright ass lights are now shining all around his house onto the sides of people's houses. What can we do to take care of this dude. Legally and well somehow push him out. I'm afraid it's going to get violent here with how much stuff happens. My kids are afraid to even play in the yard and we are outdoors type people so it's driving us nuts to avoid this dude.

WWYD? Vent/Rant Downstairs neighbor has complained about us multiple times in our first 3 weeks, now threatening to call the police over “stomping.” Am I being harassed?

My boyfriend and I moved into a third-floor apartment in a nice Denver apartment complex on September 27. We’re not party people, we don’t blast music, and we’re genuinely trying to be considerate neighbors. We’ve barely been here three weeks, and this situation is already making us uncomfortable in our own home.
Here’s what has happened so far:
We moved in on a Sunday night, the following Monday
Management called us because our downstairs neighbor complained that we were “throwing boxes from the patio.” We had left empty cardboard boxes on our patio, and the wind blew them around. We sincerely apologized, and even brought the neighbor a letter and cookies as a goodwill gesture. Management told the neighbors that we just moved in the night before and it was the wind.

That same week, on a Friday night
Management contacted us about another complaint concerning alleged noise that the neighbor had submitted footage from a camera facing the hallway and alleged that they could hear “stomping” between midnight and 6 a.m. We questioned whether the recording actually established that the noise came from our apartment. We are the first apartment from the hallway so it couldve been anyone walking. Also we watched the footage they attached l, stomping was a overstatement it was light shuffling (probably from me using the bathroom around 4am) but not consistently throughout the night.
Management defended us again understanding and told the neighbor they were probably adjusting to having upstairs neighbors.

Another week later The neighbor texted me directly for the first time. (they got the number from our apology note with the cookies)

The message said:
“Hello,
This is your new neighbor. I wanted to reach out to tell you that the stomping and loud noises are becoming an issue with the peace within my home. If you decide to continue, I will be forced to alert the authorities.
Thank you and have a good day.”

For context, we aren’t intentionally making excessive noise, and we’re not aware of doing anything that would justify this level of escalation. We understand that living in an apartment means hearing some normal household sounds, and we’re willing to be reasonable. But we also need to be able to walk around, cook, move things, and live normally in our own home without feeling like every sound could trigger another complaint. We got our couch delivered that day during normal daytime hours. Now Im over here marking timestamps of what Im doing to justify myself.
And threatening to call law enforcement for what exactly? Walking?
What bothers me is the pattern. We tried to be friendly and resolve the first issue in good faith, but the complaints have continued, and now we’re receiving messages that feel accusatory and intimidating. I’ve lived upstairs from other people for years without having this kind of problem.
I also can’t help wondering whether we’re being singled out. My boyfriend and I are Indian and Mexican, respectively, and we appear to be among the only residents of color in what seems to be a predominantly white, affluent community. I have no concrete proof that race has anything to do with this, and I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but the situation has made me wonder whether we’re being treated differently.
To management’s credit, they’ve been fairly supportive so far. I’ve already documented the neighbor’s text with the front office, and I’m considering sending a formal written complaint asking management to intervene, direct all future complaints through the office, and establish boundaries around direct communication.
We just moved 3 weeks ago, we dont party, we dont have kids or large pets. And we literally tiptoe around the house. We dont wear shoes indoors, slippers and socks only, and we have 5 area rugs/runners

My questions are:
At what point does repeated complaining and confrontational communication become harassment, versus an ordinary neighbor dispute?
Would you stop communicating with the neighbor entirely and let management handle everything?
Is it reasonable to ask management to verify where noise is coming from before attributing it to our apartment?
How would you handle this without letting the neighbor intimidate you into feeling uncomfortable in your own home?
If this continues, what documentation should I keep to protect myself?
I want to be a good neighbor, but I also don’t want to be pushed around or made to feel unwelcome in the place I pay to live. I’m looking for honest advice from people who have dealt with something similar.

WWYD? Vent/Rant am i the problem here

hi. i have been living in my apartment for 2 years now. my newish upstairs neighbors have a dog they NEVER play with, hardly walk (i’m taking a brief walk around the building which is not much) and every single night around 10pm he gets the zoomies before bed. they spend roughly 30 minutes stomping around above my bed EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. i left them a polite note explaining to them that i work very early and i can’t control what people do in their own home, but i would appreciate some consideration. they got worse. we exchanged numbers and i texted them at 1am (i wake up at 5am) to please be quiet. they responded with essentially “that’s just what apartment living is like”
what would you do to be either the most annoying downstairs neighbor possible, or any other input? i feel bad for their dog, it’s not his fault but he’s incredibly annoying. i don’t want to be /that/ neighbor but im at my wits end with this.
note: i have yet to check the lease agreement but im pretty sure there’s a clause in there about noise after 10pm, and i’m also pretty sure there’s laws in regards to that at state level as well.

Other Guys I'm about to do something stupid

Im thinking about going up and beating this guy up, which might make me end up homeless. I'm not doing well. I just met a guy who previously was trying to outsmart me by continuously talking nonstop, even though I told him, you're talking too much. He just won't leave me alone. and clearly, because of the noise, I'm unable to sleep and function, so anyone could do anything to me verbally speaking, which can sometimes be as bad as physical. I've had enough, seeing myself going into pieces because of this son of a bitch constantly nonstop drilling and renovating his 25m² all day every day since February. And it's 12 am right now, and I need to sleep. I might sound tough but I'm not. If anything I'm crying from frustration because I've done everything and have not yet come to a solution.

Vent/Rant Noisy neighbours have made me scared of living in flats

For months we’ve had constant stomping, running, banging and impact noise from the flat above. I work from home, so I’ve been exposed to it all day and it’s honestly worn me down.
We’re finally moving somewhere new, in a much smaller and quieter-looking building, but instead of feeling excited I’m terrified the same thing will happen again.
I’ve become hyper-aware of every sound. Footsteps, doors, bangs, furniture moving. My brain immediately goes: here we go again.
I know flats are never completely silent. I’m just scared of ending up trapped in the same situation twice.
Has anyone else experienced this after living with very noisy neighbours? Did the anxiety calm down once you moved somewhere quieter?

Vent/Rant Stomping and slamming

The people below me stomp and slam doors, same with next to me. I understand it’s normal, but when I’m trying to sleep at 1 am and all I hear is stomping. Or when my whole bed gets rattled by their slamming.

I’ve reported them and will continue to do so, especially because my complex has quiet hours. I have to be up early, I’m in bed by 11, and I walk on my tip toes and ensure I’m not slamming anything. I don’t get how people can be so disrespectful. Along with the slamming, they are cooking at 1 am as well. I barely sleep at night because of the constant noise and how anxious it gets me. I don’t care about their noise during the day, but I don’t understand how hard it is to have common respect for others during the nighttime..

I have another year and a half on my lease, and I don’t want to keep bothering management, however my friend’s apartment in the same complex is way quieter. None of my other friends complain about hearing noise. I sleep with a box fan, my roomate has brown noise and it still doesn’t block it out. I’m just asking for like 9 hours of silence, so I don’t understand how hard it is. I get half of it is on the apartments structure, however if I can be a good neighbor, I don’t understand how they can’t.

basically just asking; should I keep complaining to mgm? like i have video proof

Homeowner NFH Neighbor might be a drug dealer

I was drinking and wrote a novella about my scumbag neighbor yet accidentally deleted 30 minutes of phone posting so here's the TLDR.

TLDR: late 50s neighbor with tattoos on his face and scalp I've lived next to for nearly a decade doesnt work, but brought over 50 cars(couple of old corvettes and a dodge viper but mostly project classics) to his rural property over summer. He has caused me many problems of the years and the one time I speak to him about it lies his ass off to everyone involved, also a pathological liar based off of years of speaking to him. The guy has started and abandoned 3 or 4 families. Had 8 kids with 3 or 4 women. 6 of his kids are legal adults, the last 2 were born shortly after i bought my house and the mother of his last 2 children has been absent the last few years, he hardly even watches the kids. None of his adult children ever visit him. He has a criminal record DUI, domestic abuse, some traffic violations. Has miscellaneous guests frequently who show up briefly, sometimes same car twice in a day. SOMETIMES takes several trips a day from our rural remote area in his 90s suburban when his usual commuter is a small economy shitbox so he's spending absolute minimum 30 dollars in gas per trip just to get to the nearest town and back.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, maybe I should live and let live, maybe the guy is just a huge piece of shit. But my neighbor is a highly suspicious individual and I'm not sure if I should call the anonymous hotline to tell the local department about this guy and I'm not even sure if they'd even do anything. Anyone have experience with a neighbor who is a potential drug dealer?
