Hello, I haven't seen any clarification on this so I wanted to make sure it works the way I think it does.
Let's say I have [[Encouraging Aviator // Jump] and [[Muddle, the Ever-Changing]] on the battlefield. I cast any instant/sorcery to have Muddle become a copy of Encouraging Aviator until end of turn > attack with Muddle > Muddle become prepared > I end the turn > and Muddle is no longer a copy of Encouraging Aviator.
Will I be able to cast the prepared spell still? Based on the criteria of when a spell becomes unprepared it seems like I should be able to cast it, but wanted to check with people who may have more insight.
If a permanent with a prepare spell becomes prepared, a copy of its prepare spell appears in exile. This copy stays there until one of three things happens:
- You cast the spell.
- The prepared creature leaves the battlefield.
- The prepared creature becomes unprepared.
If either of the latter two happens and you haven't cast the copy of the prepared spell from exile yet, the copy disappears and ceases to exist.
Edit: Thank you to u/weiss5193 for helping with this question and making it clear.
"If a prepared creature stops being a creature, it will still be prepared, and the copy of its prepare spell will remain in exile. That permanent's controller will still be able to cast it..."
u/will_29 added a good point that you cannot have multiple spell prepared at a time on a single creature. This is already a rule some are fairly familiar with, but it's a good call out if people think about using Muddle as spell bank.
