I know this earns down-votes by fuckin' Redditors but no. I research every single thing I hear on Reddit. If you want to be informed, do the same. Google like... "what's the true story behind the Berenstain bears controversy?" Or something. And then next time you wonder, replace that with the subject matter of the thing you want to read about.
You do have to know how to read, just to be clear.
I just looked it up too and what you said is nowhere to be found.
Conclusion: Like a Boomer, you probably saw some Facebook post saying that was the explanation to the Fruit of the Loom mandela effect and you instantly believed it, with no proof.
That source doesn't say contracts were given out and third party country in a tiny town printed their logo with a cornucopia. BTW a wiki article isn't a real source. Try again.
Your “source” is a fandom website dude. Not only that but it doesn’t confirm anything you said. All its “sources” are just confirming that people thought it had a cornucopia, which we already knew. Nothing shows it actually existing.
You will get downvoted for an entirely valid reason. You made something up and refuse to prove it. It shouldn't be on other Redditors to validate your bullshit. It's your responsibility.
Naw man, it's on you to validate the things you encounter. Refusal to do so puts you at an obvious and hilarious disadvantage. You think I wait for other people to teach me?
Your partner is cheating on you. Your parents aren't your parents and they kidnapped you from your real parents before murdering them. Your boss is the one cheating on your spouse but if you don't just play along he will fire you. And on top of all of that, the president has it out for you and wants you dead.
Ok, what if I’ve spent the last ten minutes searching and can’t find fruit of the loom telling this story about a third party printing things anywhere? Certainly not with contracts to do so?
Can I have your source please? I’m genuinely curious, would love to be wrong and have this definitively resolved, but I can’t find that story from an actual source anywhere, and I’m the kind of person that needs evidence.
Edit: Man, this guy is one of those gems Reddit serves up once in awhile. I’m not sure I’ve seen someone so aggressive and so smug over such a mundane point while being so deeply wrong, and I’ve been on this website a long time. I would genuinely be fascinated to meet this person in real life.
I don't source for people. I can tell you though that searching "berenstain bears vs berenstein bears real story" is enough and you can see pictures that pre-date generative AI.
Fucking real. The sealioning goes crazy on here sometimes.
If somebody doesn't care enough to source their own information, then clearly the whole matter isn't that important to them in the first place. And it for sure then isn't important enough to me to go out of my way to convince the other party.
Like when people ask questions without proof-reading. I don't mean grammatical mistakes or what have you, but things like missed inputs, missing spaces, misinputs and what not. Just the fact you can tell they just let their keyboard rip and hit "Post" without giving it a once-over.
No shot you expect other people to engage with your question when clearly it's not important enough to you to ensure you're communicating it effectively.
Can't be assed. I have no dog in this fight and could not care one way or another. That's why I'm not trying to earn virtue-points by asking for a source.
Virtue points? We’re wasting time on Reddit talking about fruit of the loom lmao, why would I think I’m being virtuous?
I’m genuinely fascinated by this. Fine if you don’t care, but I find it interesting. That’s why I asked for a source. No one can provide one and when I searched for myself I found none. If you don’t care then by all means exit the conversation.
That at no point confirms anything about your third party theory, contracts or anything else. There’s one caption that says “possible fruit of the loom knockoff.” On a fandom website.
Is this your thing? Proclaim absolute confidence about something without sourcing it, refuse to source it? And then eventually do a half-assed google search where you don’t even read the source you cite in a hope that people will see a link and upvote? To be this smug and this aggressive is crazy. Blocking you now, I have no idea why this would get you so damn riled up. I genuinely just wanted to figure out if your story was accurate lol.
It exists, it's documented. The third party is real or it would not exist. Whether it's a contracted third party or a knock-off, does not matter. It's a third party that printed fruit of the loom merchandise with a cornucopia. Berenstein was an official license with flawed spelling, that's the part I know.
Joining in, as I have also been searching in hopes of verification of a third party or an official alternate spelling, to no avail. You say “that’s the part I know” - how do you know it? Because you remember seeing convincing evidence, which has now vanished? That might be the case, but it makes it hard for the rest of us who have only the word of a random Redditor to go by.
Since there IS evidence supporting the logo never having a cornucopia and Berenstain being the only spelling, we need some concrete evidence to believe otherwise. Many of us WANT to believe otherwise and would love that evidence, as we have fuzzy memories suggesting that there was a cornucopia and it was spelled Berenstein at one point. But without support for I’m going to chalk it up to my own fuzzy memory - as anyone believing in the scientific method must.
EDITED TO ADD:
Snopes did a great and thorough assessment of this (which others in this thread have also referenced): every purported photo showing the cornucopia version has been shown to be a fake.
I'm not saying you're trying to be virtuous. I was harkening back to my original reply that I don't care, and as such have no reason to pretend I do by asking for sources that I won't read in order to "gotcha" anybody.
You'll find a vast majority of the time, even when you do provide sources, the other person either falls silent or moves the goalpost because they don't actually care.

Source?
