My hack: buy a box of cheap, single use plastic gloves, and when you watch TV or even for sleep, put any moisturizer or even oil on your hand, pull on the gloves, and just let your skin "marinate" for at least 30 mins, but the longer, the better. Repeat every few days or as needed. The gloves stop your skin from soaking up the cream too quickly, and will super-boost your hidration. You can even add actual outdoor gloves on top, the warmth also helps the hidration. Also works with coarse and dry feet, except I use foil or plastic bags to wrap them up, and put socks on.

I feel both happy and a little bothered that this was my first thought as well. Gotta keep it soft for the wife. That being said my hands do the same thing as OP's. Maybe I should try it.

Everyone's always in awe of how supple that hand is

This gave me chronic eczema that persists to this day. :)

Lol God damn

I don't see how latex gloves "prevent your skin from soaking it up so fast" - seems like it makes a soak-it-up-fast chamber

Lotions will evaporate or dry out exposed to air so the membrane of a glove will prevent/prolong that from happening allowing your hand to soak up more of the product for longer. Same reason you put the lid back on the jar instead of just leaving it exposed to the air. So, yeah, not at all what they said but the right idea.

So not slower, but faster

its physics, same reason as you put covers on anything to prevent it drying out, like food and such.

Right. So it would enhance absorption, not limit it

I didnt say limit anywhere. Just that it is slowed down. You might as well try it, and see what I mean.

You already had eczema. This may have made it worse, but it didn't give you eczema.

Yeah no i would do 100% cotton gloves, not latex.. just gonna give yourself a skin infection or maybe even a latex sensitivity

Funny because I clicked on the picture and I’m like hey I have that right now due to using new gloves which had the powder thing in it. And it caused my hand to get like op hands. I have eczema too.

I also have a latex allergy, but it only hits sometimes? It’s weird. Gloves I’m fine, some bandaids I am not. I wish it would make up its mind.

You might be allergic to the adhesive rather than (or in addition to) the latex. I have a family member whose skin reacts to a lot of adhesives on bandaids and medical tape.

Thanks, I’ll dig a little deeper.

I just use lotion several times a day especially after hand washing. That should solve regular dryness issues.

u/carlitospig 10h ago

They’re more like mild hives, not dryness.

I used to do this for my feet with plastic bags. It really is a great LPT

I've tried this and it made me sweat. Someone told me to try cotton gloves. Will that work?

💯 cotton > latex. you can find cotton gloves in the beauty department of stores specifically for this.

Yeah cotton gloves worked a lot better for me. And you can wash them. When my hands get bad, I wear the gloves overnight while I sleep.

I do something similar for chapped lips, I use my regular face cream on my lips, let it sit for a minute, reapply if needed, then I slather a massive layer of vaseline on top. I sleep like this and it works so much better than any lip balm I've used. Then I use vaseline in the morning before I leave to protect my lips from further chapping or splitting.

You mean nitrile gloves, not latex. Latex is awful for your skin and many people have horrible allergies to it. That's why you're getting so many odd comments back about this like the one "this gave me eczema to this day." It took me a minute to figure that out, because I do your trick and have for a long time because I have eczema, but it's because you said latex gloves. I'm not sure if you specifically meant latex, but nitrile is what you may want to switch it to or edit your comment to say works far better for some 😊

They should make latex socks.

I think so too

1

u/Mr_ksngrid 13h ago

I knew what the replies were gonna the moment i saw the word latex.

1

u/AbjectList8 12h ago

Gross. Just use lotion daily.

if you wash hands often and you have dryness prone skin, it does nothing in freezing temperatures
