Dodgers right now have a shot but they're down 3-0 and only one time in history has an MLB come back from 3-0.

29 YEARS AGO TODAY Steve Kerr “bailed Michael Jordan out AGAIN” & hit the game-winning shot in GM6 of the 1997 NBA Finals “Michael said, ‘Phil, I don’t feel real comfortable in these situations. Why don’t we go to Steve?’”🤣

Discussion Michael Jordan's 'Love of the Game' Clause: The only contract in NBA history that allowed playground basketball anytime, anywhere

![img](upcgbs05upth1)

When Michael Jordan arrived in the NBA in 1984, standard rookie contracts had strict boilerplates prohibiting almost anything dangerous off the court: skiing, riding motorcycles, and especially playing unorganized pickup basketball.

Teams were investing millions into young athletes; they could not risk a blown knee in a church league gym.

Jordan had exactly one non-negotiable demand before signing with the Chicago Bulls: The "Love of the Game" clause.

What the Clause Actually Said

The clause gave Jordan explicit, legally binding permission to play basketball against anyone, anytime, on any court, playground, or exhibition in the world. Bulls management had zero legal right to stop him or fine him.

It was an insurance and actuarial nightmare for the front office. If Jordan tore an ACL playing pickup in North Carolina during July, the Bulls were still on the hook for his guaranteed money.

Why It Mattered

General managers hated it, but Jordan had the ultimate leverage: he was already a cultural icon before playing a single regular-season game. He famously used the clause to play in college alumni games, charity runs, and anonymous streetball courts throughout his prime without team interference.

To this day, no front office has ever granted that blanket freedom to another superstar.

What is the weirdest non-compete or lifestyle exemption you have ever seen slipped into a pro contract?

MJ could have the total point record if he really wanted. He didn't care about it. The record is a longevity record and doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. Here's the case for him getting out, if he actually wanted it.

Jordan finished his career with 32,292 regular-season points in just 15 NBA seasons and 1,072 games. He averaged an NBA-record 30.1 points per game for his career.

The key point is that he voluntarily missed huge chunks of his career: 1.1993-94 season (first retirement) 2.Most of the 1994-95 season (played only 17 games after returning) 3.1998-99 season 4.1999-00 season 5.2000-01 season (second retirement before joining Washington) Those absences cost him roughly 4 full seasons.

During the years surrounding those retirements, Jordan was still scoring around 28-33 PPG. Even if we assume a modest 2,200 points per season for four missed years: •2,200 × 4 = 8,800 extra points •Career total: 32,292 + 8,800 = 41,092 points That would have put him comfortably ahead of the previous all-time record holders like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and would have kept him in the conversation even against modern longevity records.

The Prime-Year Argument Is Even Stronger The first retirement happened immediately after his third straight championship in 1993. His previous seasons: •1990-91: 31.5 PPG •1991-92: 30.1 PPG •1992-93: 32.6 PPG Those were not decline years. They were peak-Jordan years.

If Jordan had simply played the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons at something close to 30 PPG, that's likely another 4,500-5,000 points right there.

What makes the argument compelling is not just the total points lost, but how quickly Jordan accumulated points. •Jordan: 32,292 points in 1,072 games (30.1 PPG) •LeBron James: 43,440 points in 1,622 games (26.8 PPG)

In summary, Michael Jordan retired twice while still capable of averaging around 30 points per game. He finished with 32,292 points despite playing only 15 seasons. Had he simply played the four seasons he voluntarily sat out, even at a reduced level, he likely would have added 8,000+ points and finished near or above 40,000 career points. His scoring rate was never the issue. The only thing keeping him from threatening the all-time points record was time off the court. If he wanted to keep playing, he'd have that record.

Ciao a tutti, vorrei comprare questa maglia firmata da MJ, ma il COA proviene da un'agenzia di autenticazione non riconosciuta come un buon partner per l'autenticazione. Qualcuno può aiutarmi a sapere se è reale?
