Found this old powder flask measuring nozzle on the goldfields of central Victoria, Australia, yesterday. Thought you all might like to see it.

I bought this off eBay almost 20 years ago (est), from a guy who lived near the White’s factory, worked there and repaired and tweaked them as a hobby. It has def made some GREAT finds for me. Still not quite sure what the added knobs do EXACTLY, (ideas?) but I just adjust them lightly until it sounds good on live testing and try not to move them much after the fact-only for depth.

Profundas, escurridizas y olvidadas.

Hey everyone!
I’m pretty new to metal detecting and still learning about the hobby.
I’ve been reading a bit about finding lead objects while metal detecting, and I’ve heard that old, corroded lead can be quite toxic.
However, I often see metal detecting videos where people pick up old lead objects with their bare hands like it’s no big deal.
So I’m wondering, how dangerous is it really? Is briefly touching corroded lead actually a health risk, or is the danger mainly from accidentally ingesting lead dust or particles?
Do you guys use gloves when handling lead finds, or do you just wash your hands afterwards?
Since I’m still a beginner, I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences!
Greets yall

Hi everyone! I used to be active in one of the metal detecting subs awhile back one of my old accounts.
I remember there was a website people used that you could see foundational from satellite and it was black and white
Does anyone happen to know what I’m referring to? I can’t find it anywhere
Thanks!

So I’ve got the 11” and am thinking of going for the bigger coil or should I go HF instead? What are the pro and cons of doing this? Main search areas are pasture and ploughed don’t usually do beach only on my holidays or when visiting my brother in Barcelona
Thanks for any info

Haven't been out as much as I'd like to lately so deciding to show off all the rings gold and silver I've found throughout my years of metal detecting. It's not impressive but being I only go where I can take my bike or walk to not so bad. I don't live on the coast or anything crazy so stuck to trashy parks and schools. But in a whole lot of work to have what I have lots and lots of hours out and sore legs as I'm someone who will stay out til I find something no matter how long it takes. My stubbornness pays off from time to time. I don't think I've found anything of a lot of value but I'll keep trying til it happens and regardless I know that's not what it's about I do enjoy the time out and have fun regardless.

I don't know what I'm going to do with all of them in terms of cleaning them up. Probably start with an acetone soak. I have seen people get really good results with a rock tumbler with some sort of medium inside that doesn'tdestroy the surface of the coin but it knocks the dirt and corrosion off. I'm curious how you all clean your crusty copper coins? I've seen some people on here do some really good jobs with cleaning up their copper finds.

I've been thinking about getting a metal detector for a while now and I have been researching them. But I see people always getting down on their knees. I will probably never be able to get down on my knees again. So do you think I would still be able to metal detector and dig things up still?

I went mud larking with my brother for the first time in the night on the river themes. After about 3 hours of finding nothing old rusty screws and crisp packets, my brother jokingly picked up this old bit of metal and said “wow an ancient dagger”. But then as we researched more it seams actually be one… The metal is quite thick along the back ridge.. what do you think?
The first photo is the one we found (the others are some I saw in a museum coincidentally that look rather similar…
Or is this just another bit of rusty metal to add for the collection? 😂
