Tbh it's the only time where i root for something where AI is involved. Anyways i won't be getting GTA 6 when it launches on PC... imma wait for a steam sale

This decompile and recompile tech has some very malicious potential outside of gaming unfortunately, especially as it advances. Nothing we can do about it now though
24
u/Game0815 16h ago edited 14h ago
This "decompile" tech is mostly fake btw. Every report besides mayhaps the Sony one about Programms (like Adobe or office) being decompiled has been fake. Ai isn't there yet. These programs all turned out to be fully vibe coded to look alike without any decompiling whatsoever

Imma first do GTA 5 that I got for free on Epic 5 years ago and haven't installed yet

Thanks for reminding me that I have GTA V on Epic Games Store. I still collect the free games they give every week, but I never actually play them.

I've set up a calendar notification on my phone every Thursday for a few years now so I won't forget to collect them. I've played maybe 3-4 of them.

It'll be cracked within a year of release like 5 was. That's when I'll play it.

u/KevinFlantier 16h ago
5 was cracked within hours of release though.

I didn't give a shit about GTA 6 to begin with. I own a PC btw and wasn't gonna buy a console for a game. If i really wanted to play could just ask my friend to lend me his ps5. Im glad this shit happened and I can finally play on my PC
23
u/Juanpapi420 20h ago
The way things are going you’re going to be able to play it on PC on the same weekend the game is dropped, cracked, repacked, and released with better stability than the one PS5 players will have.
And by the time it’s released on PC, you will have the browser version with modded servers, running smoother than on a PS5 pro, and I’m all for it.

u/DarkAdrenaline03 11h ago
I was thinking of eventually getting a ps5 for gta 6 but nah I’ll just wait especially as I’d rather upgrade my pc

u/FizzyBoy147 21h ago
IGN posted it as "reportedly in Q1 2027"
3
u/mercer47 21h ago
IGN quoted gamebeat's own article, gamebeat had 4 seperate reported anon sources. While it checks out someone leaking this kinda news would for sure wanna stay ANON. Past reports from gamebeat about industry like mass layoffs from state of decay team and GTA first trailer drop and a few more have come true exactly as he/she said.
So not to get my hopes well but this is boding well and a matching up with a past rumor from corsair higher up about rocktar porting on PC quite soon
28
u/OneNavan 22h ago
I honestly hope this is the case but i don't think so, i think the plan was always to release on PC much sooner than GTA 5 or RDR2 launched on PC, they just wanted to double dip.
6
u/unoriginal_namejpg 22h ago
even if that was the plan, ”leaking” it early could genuinely be a play to stop pirating
13
u/mikehiler2 21h ago
That absolutely won’t do a damn thing to stop pirating. Even if they planned on releasing the game on PC within a month after consoles that game is getting decompiled and emulated so fast it’ll make everyone’s head spin. The rage against practices like Rockstar’s and Sony’s are a big motivator.
1
u/n1keym1key 19h ago
It will need an exploit for the latest PS5 FW. Very likely one that hasnt been released yet and will only be released when GTA VI is releasing. The game will require this firmware at minimum to run on the console.
At the very least this stops what you are saying from happening until an exploit is found for that FW and the game is then dumped.
That will enable the game to be pirated on JB PS5 consoles, probably all the way down to 4.xx fws if a backport is possible. Once the dump is out there, then and only then can any re/decomp work be started. Its not like the old days when we just had to dump the disc to get the games files.
That whole scenario could take anything from days/weeks to months. Id be leaning towards months myself, although these days a lot more is possible.
29
u/AngryRobot42 18h ago
I do this for a living. The idea that they cannot port it to the PC is the most ridiculous BS I have ever heard. How TF do you think the games are made? How TF do you think games on next gen consoles are made? You don't use a PS5 to develop a game.
11
u/youtocin 11h ago
While games are programmed on PC, they use SDKs specifically optimized for consoles during that development and then have to spend extra time optimizing for the hundreds of different combos of hardware a PC could be configured with.
5
u/jacstar2004 10h ago
people would rather be mad than accept this lmao lets be real
1
u/GH00ST-SL4YER memer 6h ago
Like why couldnt they just use a disk from ps4 on their computer if it was built for PC according to them. There is a reason emulator is a thing and needed for them to play the game
17
u/cwx149 17h ago
I don't think anyone thinks they can't port it they're choosing not to on purpose just as they have over and over again with their last few games
1
u/eberlix Dark Mode Elitist 16h ago
If they really needed that extra time to port it to PC, they could also just publish all the versions together, even if that meant a delay for console. Doing this feels like spite towards PC players.
-6
u/youtocin 11h ago
The console market is far bigger than the PC market, so they get priority.
1
u/eberlix Dark Mode Elitist 2h ago
Only in profit, with roughly 40 billion vs roughly 50 billion (2024, based on what I could find. Player numbers are estimated to be roughly 50% larger than console with ~600mil vs ~900mil.
Mind you, that's consoles in general, we haven't even differentiated in Xbox and PlayStation and since other comparisons within the category of consoles split it up in Xbox vs PlayStation vs Nintendo, they might even have to be included too. That's 3 separate devices against one and it's still pretty close.
If we truly wanna look at market share by profit, they should release for mobile, since that is at >50%. PC is growing faster than consoles, with PC projected to surpass consoles by 2028.
3
u/Wiseon321 15h ago
They can, but they won’t.
It’s their modus operandi at this point. You should just live with it instead of being weirdos.

u/DiscussTek 18h ago
People REALLY fail to think about actual Game Dev, and only usually accept what they're told for a reason that baffles me still to this day.
It is significantly more expensive for a studio to develop for a specific platform like PS5 or the Switch (though not for Xbox since they're literally just computers with a custom firmware at this point), due to the large amount of highly expensive devkits, and the plethora of risks involved.
All it does, is (mildly) reduce the complexity of the test cases, when you don't touch PC. And it is mild, because as long as you develop the game without presuming everyone has 300Gb of SSD space to dedicate to your game and your game alone, you probably will be good for all modern gaming PCs.
5
u/BedProfessional7275 13h ago
Except the cost of the devkit is irrelevant to their decision in this cause because they would need to spend the money on it anyways. The cost is only a factor if you plan on one or the other, not both.
-1
u/DiscussTek 11h ago
Having been part of the planning for a new studio, I can tell you that it makes a difference between buying 20 devkits, and 50 devkits. One of those is more than the other.
For a larger studio, like Rockstar for instance, that can make the difference between your budget suddenly having to either (A) suck devkits from other projects (very not ideal), or (B) buy new devkits for your new projects (and given the price tag on those, that can suddenly chop a huge amount of budget you and the investors would rather see used elsewhere). Borrowing a dozen devkits from another project that is nearing completion is one thing, but when you're not on charge of pooping the money, it makes a difference. A big one.
1
u/koett 10h ago
You’re assuming Sony wouldn’t give Rockstar as many devkits as they want no questions asked for free… not really comparable to your work at “a new studio” what so ever
-1
u/DiscussTek 9h ago
That is MOST DEFINITELY not a move Sony would make, since they don't own Rockstar, so they can't control what those devkits would be used for even in the slightest, and Rockstar is MOST DEFINITELY not going to be loyal lapdogs to Sony for long.
Sony is not currently in a position to arm a studio that can bite them in the ass anytime, for free. And assuming this would happen to anything not a directly owned subsidiary, is so impossible that to say it's "laughable" is actually hilariously overstating the odds of it happening.

Except that every major GTA released within around half a year after console release. GTA 5 was a weird one because it released at the end of a console cycle. So PS3, X 360 got it first, then PS4/Xbox one. But the PC release was like 6 months after that.
It's always been like this.
6
u/furezasan 20h ago
not for ps5 emulation only, these mfers are creating decomped versions of games that run natively on pc.
they'll do pc gta6 before pc gta6

There is no source for this info btw.

Complete rumor from anonymous sources btw. But of course Reddittors keep posting this.
Also Rockstar's Q1 starts in like...April, so it could be as late as July if this were even true
1
u/Bubbaganewsh 19h ago
Even when it comes out for PC it's going to be well over $100 in Canada so I'll likely wait for a sale even if it's a long way down the road.

If this is true I will wait then and buy the PC version. Game consoles come and go but PC gaming will be with me for at least the next decade

The pc version always comes out a couple of months after. Why? $$$. I don’t know why it was even a debate.

GTA V was 19 months, RDR2 was 12 months. That's not a couple months lol

u/Starfire123547 16h ago
yup. Because they know all these shitters here in the comments will still drop 100$ for base game or more for the fancy shark bundles or whatever they offer on console.
Then a year later theyll pay 80$ or 60$ plus a shitload of shark cards then to play it on PC.
But the real joke is playing it at all, at least playing any multiplayer. We all know hackers will hit day 1 console and PC releases and destroy the entire economy in seconds. Just like what happened to gta5. You cant buy shit now without grinding entire heists for weeks bc a heist only gives you a few hundred thousand for hours of setup but businesses and even can cars are multi millions with recurring costs to customize or use. i give gta6 a week before the entire economy is in shambles and your options sre grind weeks for a singular car or soend green $$$.

5
u/WntrTmpst 16h ago
Yea, when you have intellectual integrity you can typically separate the bad parts of something from the good parts.
Plastic is one of the single most revolutionary materials ever created. It’s a byproduct that is worthless that can be synthesized into a cheap, sterile, universally useful material. It’s also killing us from the inside out and destroying the earth.
This is applicable to damn near everything ever invented ever
1
u/Schmenza 16h ago

AI replacing coders: good
Ai replacing artists: bad
3
1
u/Charletos 16h ago
Yes good point. Not necessarily just generative. However, the argument is still that context matters. Evidently, given our exchange.
1
u/Wiseon321 15h ago
Coders are still people that matter.
Why is it a good thing for ai to replace coders?
You know how hypocritical this is? Programming is a job, coding is a job.
Or are you being facetious?
1
1
u/jlreyess 13h ago
It’s pretty damn bad and evil. Bad for jobs, for the economy, for humanity, for pretty much everything. It being able to crack a videogame doesn’t negate the destruction it leaves behind. We are literally going to cook ourselves alive in the planet, but hey, at least we got GTA6 on pc faster, right? 🙄

oh no trust me i know it's going to be a long damn time to reverse engineer it, but if doable it'd both be funny as shit that sony got their premier console reverse engineered and would be a smack in sony's face if a tiny one

Sony you wanted all digital so the PS5 will become all digital now.
I love how the entire project is done out of spite and hatred.
