Negativity and spam

It seems we have had a large uptick in content lately which is great, unfortunately this has also driven negative comments and false reports.

This subreddit is here for people of all skill levels and while some level of criticism is important, please do try to keep things on the positive side and don't just downvote things that you don't like, we are very fortunate to live in a city with an extremely diverse music scene, this means there will always be music not catered to your tastes being made, downvoting things out of hand or because you think its "bad" is not how I would like to see this sub go on

That being said...

We need to have a conversation about spam

I understand that with the rise of TikTok shorter clips have become the norm and you are more than welcome to post any work you do here, but I am going to restrict users to posting ONE clip/vid/link per song per day, I don't care if it's a 5 second cover of "You Suffer" or a 6 hr prog rock epic, if you post multiple clips of the same song on the same day, they will be removed, if it continues, so will you.

As a moderator I want to be as hands off as I can, leaving this as much like a community noticeboard as possible, but mostly I want everyone who uses this space to have a positive experience, this means curbing negative behaviour and making sure that people don't have to wade through a sea of the same content over and over

Thank you for reading

Moderation - New rule

I know the SR is a bit rudderless, I'm here to tell you I still check in on posts. Between raising a family, work, gym, music and all the other shit we have to do in post-modern life I have little time to be moderating a subreddit so, I'm not going to tolerate misogyny, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc etc.

New rule, Don't be a cunt. No, I'm not going to talk about it, cant be fucked. I'll just ban you, message me, ill probably say something funny and rude, this will be entirely at my own discretion.

I will not tolerate intolerance

Cheers :P

Hey guys, I just wanted to share my song that came out today. It's got a long intro (I know everyone hates it but it's what called to me) and I mix and produce, everything by myself so it's not mixed amazingly but I tried my best and I would just love to see if anyone likes it.

I'm not asking for feedback cause TRUST ME I KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH IT. but I am one person who is still learning and I can only do with what knowledge I've got.

But anyway have a gander

Can anyone help us find a cymbal?!

Hello all you magic humans, just wondering if anyone has come across a Zildjian A 18" Rock Crash with the name NATHAN REARDON and a ph number on it? We had a gig at Bad Decisions on September 17th and it was left behind but the bar can’t find it so we assume it’s been nicked. Cheers!

Update: I posted my app here a while back for finding people to go to gigs (link to original post in body). It has honestly evolved so much since last time I shared here so here's an update.

My name’s Aaron. I built a platform that helps people connect over events and social activities.

Six months ago I posted this: https://www.reddit.com/r/melbournemusic/comments/1sl1r9f/ive_missed_out_on_my_fair_share_of_music_events/

Last time I asked if you’d team up with randoms for a night out, and plenty of people were keen. IMO the event scene is one of the best places to connect with people organically, and this is about as organic as it can get through an app :)

We’re almost at 1,500 users across Australia, mostly in Melbourne and Sydney. There have been heaps of improvements: better notifications, stronger privacy features and a cleaner design. Still not making much money, but seeing people sign up and love it this early on makes it worth it.

I’ve been hunting down venues that throw events to find the hidden gems and live music people asked for, and there’s been some good progress but many more to find.

A number of DJ communities are now on the platform sharing their events, including Outlines Group, Let’s Vibe, Headzy Bop and a few others. I’m always keen to bring on more that want to build real communities around their music events.

I’ve also rebuilt the website with a What’s On feature, so you can see what music events are happening in Melbourne and what’s coming up at specific venues. Communities that sign up are creating channels where people can connect. I’d love more local artists who throw or play live events on there too, but it’s still early days!

If you want to check it out:

Hilltops Website if you want to learn more: https://hilltops.app
Event guide: https://hilltops.app/whats-on
App and all other links: https://hilltops.app/links

This community is great, so I wanted to share an update on the progress

Looking for a pal/group to tag along with for Croxton Block Party Sunday

Hello, I'm new to Melbourne and just auto-purchased a resale ticket for King Gizzards Croxton Block Party!!

Is there anyone here who would like to take me under their wing and be my festival/gig buddy?

I'm 27f, from Wellington NZ, I love rock music esp prog, psych, world, stoner, doom... etc....

Have worked in and around festivals for the past 5 years so I know my way around a gig, and have played in bands before, been on tour, etc

I am cool (I think), hate racists, hate facists, hate TERFs, love community, love beer, love music

Please reach out!!

MusoConnect

Hey folks,

I’m a Melbourne keyboard player and recently built MusoConnect after finding it harder than it should be to connect with other musos.

The idea is pretty simple: somewhere to put yourself out there if you’re looking for a band, gigs, fill-in work or just people to play with. Bands can also list vacancies and find players.

It’s free and will stay free for musos. No subscriptions or fees to use the site.

It’s only just launched, so the community is still small. Thought I’d share it here in case it’s useful to anyone.

https://musoconnect.com.au/

Would love to hear what you think, particularly anything that would make it more useful for you.

Cheers,
Tony

Tame Impala tonight - circular stage?

Hello! Can anyone confirm if there will be a circular stage at tonight’s concert at Rod Laver? Kevin has done it in all the other cities, but the tickets issued for Rod Laver do not look like they may be for 360 degree stage.

looking for a cheap Michael Jackson impersonator

I am DESPERATE for an MJ impersonator (can be not great) to show up, dance to a few songs at my party and leave, no meet and greet or socialisation requirements.

Does anyone know of one or what platform I'd have the most luck with!

Thanks so much :)

Been trying to get my hands on two floor tickets with absolutely no luck lol. If anyone’s selling or knows someone who is, please use my Tixel links. Either date is fine. You’d be an absolute legend 🥂
