I just received a really disappointing grade in a midterm worth 40% and my only next chance to bump my grade up is in the final which is worth 60%

I'm not really confident that I can do good enough in the final to end with at least a B in the class. My plans for the future is to go into grad school (either law or masters psyc). I wanted to know if I s/u drop the class right now (meaning i would get an S in my transcript) would it be looked down upon in my future applications to grad school. for reference i'm a first year (U1).

Has anyone done the MSW (with qualifying year) or the MSc(A) CFT program without an undergraduate in psych or BSW? Can you give me advice?

• Upvotes

I have a BFA, and the MISt from McGill. Experience working in public and university libraries, and currently am working as an employment counselor for vulnerable populations. I’d like to become a talk therapist, but struggling to figure out the most realistic path to pursue this. I’m looking into these two programs in terms of prerequisites, but hesitant to take on coursework if they won’t count. I also have a couple courses already that I think may count for a couple prerequisites, but am not sure exactly and would like a way to verify this.

Also wondering about the 1700 hours of experience expectation for the CFT program - would my current counseling job count? I keep hearing how these programs are super competitive to get into, but as I have a bit of unconventional background, it’s hard for my gauge how they’d view my candidacy.

Would love someone’s insight !

Is it normal that I almost have no studies available?

I can have up to 6 credits, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find enough studies…

Give us readings weeks like before

Just ranting but

I don't know why it's different this year but they fucked our reading break. We used to have 9 days: 2 weekends, and the five days of the week. What is this Friday to wednesday thing. I forgot it was different and then realized i had one day left and that it starts in the middle of the week.

Is it just me?

Advice for MECH539

Hey everyone,

Currently doing a master in aerospace engineering at ETS, I'm thinking of taking MECH539 (computational aerodynamics) at Mcgill for Winter2027 but couldn't find anyone giving their opinion on the course. Does anyone have any ideas of its difficulty and if it's worth it ?

Thank you all

depressed about my gpa as a U3

i'm so sure i have adhd but was never diagnosed..anyways, my gpa is bad, by bad i mean less than 3.0. i had an awful start at mcgill (failed 3 courses due to misinformation), and it basically ruined the trajectory of the rest of my degree. i improved, but not to the point where i was or am getting a 4.0 every semester. my grades just aren't good. they're for the most part, bad. every semester i get at least one or two As/A- and the rest are B- or C+

i'm super involved in many clubs, i've done two internships, i am a hard worker, this is what everyone views me as, and this is what i've viewed myself as my entire life. i just didn't work that hard at mcgill. i struggle attending classes and i don't know why i haven't put in that much effort compared to what i used to do back in hs. i just found studying abroad, especially at mcgill, super difficult. i have an autoimmune disease which we were only able to find out what it was a few months ago (but it's been affecting me since i was 12), and then as i previously mentioned i think i have inattentive adhd (my counsellor also thinks this lol).

my only hope now is getting diagnosed and then using that as a letter for whatever i do next (whether it's a job or grad school). at this point, i am certain that it would be easier for me to get a job then do a masters, which i want to eventually do.

honestly hs me would be devastated and i am fully just taking everything in now about how bad my gpa is. i hate that i let myself get to this point, i constantly felt like i had enough time but it passes before you know it. i also feel awful because i am an international student and this degree was expensive as fuck. i wish i could go back in time but my only choice now is to lock tf in for this last year and make sure my grades are top so that i can feel like i actually achieved something academically here at mcgill.

any advice would be really appreciated

With everything going on with frats (here and elsewhere) does anyone know what happened to the Kappa Sigma colony at McGill? I heard it was chill compared to the other frats so I wonder why it died.

CRIB Sheet ECON337

Hello all! I am currently enrolled in ECON337 and preparing for our upcoming midterm. I was curious to know— for those who took this class— what you would prioritize writing on the CRIB sheet. There are so many formulas, proofs, laws, etc. and I want to ensure I use this resource to its extent!! Thanks so much 😊

SSHRC Application .... (thoughts, experiences, tips)

Hi everyone,

I recently learned that my SSHRC application did not advance past the first round. While disappointing, I’m hoping to learn from the experience and hear from others who have been through the process.

Did many people here advance past the first round this year? This was my first time applying as a PhD student, and I’d be particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was successful on their second or third attempt. How did your experience change between applications, and was there anything you found especially helpful when reapplying?

Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and insights!

Considering a PhD in CS/AI in Montreal looking for advice

Hey everyone,

I’m an international student from Tunisia considering doing a PhD in Computer Science/AI in Montreal looking for advice from people who have gone through the process before making such a long-term commitment.

I recently graduated with an Engineering degree in Computer Science and a Research Master’s in Advanced Intelligent Systems. My background is in CS and AI, with research and project experience in areas such as machine learning, LLMs, and intelligent systems. I’m interested in continuing in a similar direction for a PhD.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is the supervisor aspect. I’ve heard from some PhD students that the supervisor relationship can have a significant impact on the overall experience and progress, so I’d be interested in hearing how people approached this when choosing where to apply.

A few questions:

  • What is the usual process for finding a funded PhD position in CS/AI?
  • Is it better to contact professors before submitting an application?
  • Is it common to speak with current or former students before deciding on a professor?
  • Are there particular AI/ML/LLM or intelligent systems research groups/labs in Montreal that you would recommend looking into?
  • Are PhD positions generally funded for international students? What does funding typically look like?
  • Are there any particular universities in Montreal that you would recommend for AI/CS research?
  • If you’re currently doing or have completed a PhD in Montreal, what has your experience been like?
  • And if you work in a similar research area, I’d really appreciate recommendations for professors I could look into.

I’m still exploring my options at this stage, so I’d be grateful for any advice or personal experiences.

Thanks!

MATH 141 midterm w/ Prof Rosalie Bélanger Rioux

Any tips for studying for Prof Bélanger Rioux's midterm, not even specifically Math 141, just her midterms/exams in general? Is it more word questions or just basic computing?

Qualifying Year - Masters of Physiotherapy

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here had recently gotten into the Qualifying Year for the Masters in Physiotherapy program at McGill.

I am preparing my applications and have a few questions, such as : what are the Anatomy and Physiology courses you took?

Thank you.
