You can see the gears turning in Jean's head as she figures out what V-Max is. Sadie is a really good actor.

She was well cast. Her facial acting was great in all the silent scenes where’s she’s using her power, and when she’s being tortured. Very believable and expressive. She’s going to be great in the X-men live action reboot.

She's going to be the only one of those kids that is in good movies going forward. By far the best actresses/ actor of all the kids on stranger things

56

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 02 '26

I hope she uses this like Cumberbatch and Stan, where she stars in Marvel blockbusters so she can do passion projects.

40

u/Worthyness Thor Aug 03 '26

Thats most actors tbh. You do the franchise stuff to lock-in consistent pay and then get to know the directors/executives. Then you can use your profile to do more of your own stuff or learn how to do something.

19

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 03 '26

Yes, I agree, but Cumberbatch and Stan have been the most vocal about it, and arguably the most successful with this method.

10

u/Jet-Let4606 Aug 07 '26

Hugh Jackman and Mark Ruffallo as well.

19

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 03 '26

She was on the Westend (London theatre) doing Romeo and Juliet. She will likely continue to do theatre.

9

u/RarestManatee Aug 06 '26

She's already a Tony nominee for her Broadway stint in "John Proctor is the Villain". I'd say a theatre career is a given.

1

u/Normal-Hornet8548 Ghost Rider Aug 09 '26

I’d love to see her in anything on Broadway.

9

u/Nervous_Jaguar_2826 Aug 03 '26

Even Holland himself to an extent

3

u/elbosston Aug 08 '26

Christian Bale had amazing performances in his career but his one MCU role was terrible (not his fault, Love and Thunder was bad). Really the opposite of them.

4

u/Summoarpleaz Aug 09 '26

Eh but he was never going to be a regular. In any case, he’s already done the franchise thing (arguably the best of the Batman franchise) and I’d imagine he could do whatever he wants right now.

1

u/arthuraily Aug 30 '26

Terrible??? He was the only good part in those movies

56

u/StephenHunterUK Aug 01 '26

Maya Hawke has been getting plenty of good movies herself - she's in the next Hunger Games film, which was trailed before my screening of this. Although technically Robin wasn't one of the "kids".

Millie Bobby Brown has been getting a lot of work from Netflix.

29

u/13SpiderMonkeys Tony Stark Aug 01 '26

Also I believe Finn Wolfhard is wanting to get into directing. He's been in a few solid films as one of the mains. He has a good amount of range. I think tho he's wanting to be a smaller director, I may be wrong.

13

u/dewhashish Aug 02 '26

him playing as young Richie in IT 1 and 2 was perfect

1

u/thomasvector Aug 25 '26

I thought that was perfect casting when it came out! Still do lol

2

u/Tall-Problem-6183 Aug 06 '26

He has a band also. Just played Lollapalooza.

8

u/LRedditor15 Zombie Hunter Spidey Aug 03 '26

A side note: it’s wild how all the Manson kids from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood went on to have really successful careers.

-1

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Aug 03 '26

That's because they were in the only good scene in that movie and should have been the focus all along.

5

u/Forsaken-Budget-6386 Aug 08 '26

I really liked Hailee Steinfeld. Her portrayal has potential.

4

u/kickpuncher1 Aug 08 '26

When was she on stranger things?

1

u/Forsaken-Budget-6386 Aug 10 '26

errr....I mis read as "best kid in MCU"

1

u/Jesse1198 Spider-Man Aug 10 '26

When they got into Vecna’s mind and all simultaneously thought “It’s Morbin time” to defeat him

49

u/Professional_Rate718 Aug 01 '26

She was my favorite person in Stranger Things, not gonna lie. I'm really happy she's out of that mess, and really doing her own thing now and her career's really popping off.

21

u/13SpiderMonkeys Tony Stark Aug 01 '26

People used to shit on me after she premiered in ST saying that she's gonna become my favorite actress. She has a healthy amount of range but also has a good camera persona in interviews and such. I'm happy for all the now grown ST kids getting major roles

22

u/Professional_Rate718 Aug 01 '26

I'm gonna be honest?
I want to see less of Millie Bobby Brown. She's been in a lot of things, and each role sort of just makes my eyes roll. I think in the earlier stages of Stranger Things, I was more okay with her because she was a kid and if her acting was lacking here and there, I'd make that excuse. But she didn't seem to get much better.

Give me more Caleb or Gaten. Billy's actor would be great, I also love myself some Joe Keery.

8

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Aug 02 '26

The first Enola Holmes was pretty good. Other than that, she's done what? Two meh sequels to that, the worst Monsterverse movie & its direct sequel, a ripoff of The Princess, and Electric State.

5

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 02 '26

Just no more Noah Schnapp. He’s been kind of a shit person offscreen.

39

u/Highlander253 Aug 01 '26

When she was running in the park it looked like a shot right out of Stranger Things. Only part for her that pulled me out of her performance. She maybe just needed a bit of a different hairstyle or a little bit of a different angle and it would have been a bit less distracting. Everything else was fantastic and I can't wait to see more of her as Jean.

7

u/RedKyet Aug 05 '26

That's what I was also thinking considering how popular the "Running up that hill" Vecna escape scene was on social media at the time

7

u/someotherguyinNH Aug 01 '26

She really did do a great job

5

u/Oreo-and-Fly Aug 05 '26

How could you know she was using her power without her hand reaching out with a strained expression on her face while having a nosebleed?

2

u/Hot_Marsupial_8706 Aug 10 '26

I'm so glad I was never on the Stranger Things train, and I haven't seen other projects she was in, so I went in totally blind on who Sadie Sink is as an actor. I can imagine it might be weird if you're more familiar with her role in Stranger Things, much in the same way a few friends of mine were when they saw Trudy in Monk AFTER watching the actress in The Office.

1

u/thomasvector Aug 25 '26

I knew she would be great in this. Her facial expressions in stranger things always said more than other actors could say in a few lines, especially in season 4

332

u/greenroom628 Spider-Man Jul 31 '26

There were 3 audible gasps in the audience for three scenes: this was one of them

21

u/thinkinting Aug 01 '26

What are the other two?

61

u/Poked_salad Captain America (Cap 2) Aug 01 '26

I'm assuming the other one is the shot. I also love the fact that Frank will do this because it actually was a great solution to the situation, considering how brutal it was

4

u/Worthyness Thor Aug 03 '26

Im just a bit disappointed that frank would try to kill a girl though. I know she was basically mindblasting a good chunk of new york, but it wasn't her fault she was being tortured by the government. I know he's good enough a shot to do a non-kill, but doing that with a gun that powerful would likely kill thr target regardless.

22

u/Nervous_Jaguar_2826 Aug 03 '26

He wanted to kill here before she was tortured by the defence force.

That's Frank's motto, if they've committed a serious offence then they deserve the death punishment dealt by him and it's not as if Jean was completely innocent, many could've died from the tank and Hulk situations and she did serious harm to complete civilians in the climax.

22

u/raccoonsonbicycles Aug 04 '26

My only major peeve with the movie:

Peter: "youre not a killer"

Me: uh that tank blew up like 6 occupied cars

22

u/Nasa1225 Aug 04 '26

Also the old guy she possessed that she let get hit by a delivery van. No one batted an eye at that in the movie - not Peter, not Jean. It was pretty strange.

8

u/Ray_nj Aug 04 '26

Yes! I was surprised Peter didn’t even really try to save the guy. It was obvious she was setting the old guy up to get hit.

1

u/DeusVultSaracen Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Aug 23 '26

Yeah that got a gasp out of me and Peter wasn't even phased by it lmao

3

u/AdKUMA Aug 05 '26

it would have made more sense to say "you don't want to be a killer".

24

u/bee14ish T'Challa Star-Lord Aug 03 '26

Mind raping. Let's not downplay her villainy in this film, she did some sick shit.

1

u/W1ldhamster Aug 04 '26

Cos y'know, when he hits them, they stay down

41

u/greenroom628 Spider-Man Aug 01 '26

Reveal of who was behind all the "possessions" and when MJ and Spidey were on the Silvercup rooftop

10

u/thinkinting Aug 02 '26

That audience must be quite comic savvy or at least a bit more than a casual viewer because Jean Grey’s name completely flew over my wife’s head.

21

u/ycpa68 Aug 02 '26

I'm sitting here as a 36-year-old wondering why you would have to be comic savvy because she starred in the biggest superhero movies of my childhood... Then I remember I'm 36.

1

u/thinkinting Aug 03 '26

My wife is just not a movie goer. (Yah i don’t know why i married her)

10

u/Aspenwood83 Avengers Aug 03 '26

I seemed to be the only one to react to that in my showing (and the theater was packed), so I conclude that the casual viewer doesn't know who she is. Which I found quite surprising, given how many X-Men films there are.

3

u/smorges Aug 04 '26

There were only a handful of people in my screening, including me, that made an audible laugh/gasp when her name came up. I was genuinely surprised and enjoyed the reveal as I did not expect this movie to be the launch of mutants in the MCU!

I definitely believe that the majority of the audience had no idea who she was.

1

u/ujanmas Aug 04 '26

There were a few audible reactions at my theatre but I only gasped internally 😮

3

u/stormytiger Aug 02 '26

I accidentally said "Phoenix" so loud 💀

5

u/Lerkpots Aug 03 '26

My mam is bad with character names but surprisingly instantly clocked Jean Grey.

28

u/nnhumn Aug 01 '26

The only gasp in my theater was when MJ said I don't love you, and I didn't get it. I thought that was totally expected in that moment

10

u/supermodel_robot Aug 02 '26

I shrugged my shoulders at my bf when he said he loved her, she doesn’t know you, bro lol. What were they expecting?

17

u/jjejsj Aug 02 '26

i think cause it was kinda fucked up to say. Like damn she aint have to break his heart into a million pieces like that lmao

29

u/sleepy-snowdrop Aug 02 '26

true but at the same time 100% in character for her! She doesn’t sugarcoat things, she is brutally honest.

0

u/raccoonsonbicycles Aug 04 '26

She could have cut him off with a simple "bo" lol

3

u/Roboticide Hulkbuster Aug 09 '26

I think it's fair to me she's like "I don't love you."

It was wild to me she didn't say something like "but I'm willing to start again."

Like, I get she's in a complicated situation having a boyfriend and that its a lot to process, but Jesus that hurt.

28

u/VelocityGrrl39 Captain Marvel Aug 02 '26

Ugh, the people in front of me were complaining about how her character was nerfed and the real Jean Grey would have gone more than a kilometer. Like, incel bros, this is her debut. I’m sure they will reveal more along the way. Sometimes you just have to trust the process.

22

u/HyShroom Aug 03 '26

I was enraged and disgusted when I saw the tape on the air conditioning vent. It was a phenomenal, well set development: that there was no secret communication, that it was just her older sister in the climax of her torture looking up at the ceiling and conveying the only thing she could comprehend as her brain shut down. It was filthy. It reminded me exactly why we need to remember to hold corporations as guilty until proven innocent in our minds.

13

u/UnsolvedParadox Aug 01 '26

From the first time she showed up at the arcade in Stranger Things, I knew she’d become a star.

10

u/OliviaElevenDunham Loki (Avengers) Aug 02 '26

She was a great choice to play Jean Grey.

5

u/qaz_wsx_love Aug 01 '26

I was so relieved once she manifested her powers. Part of me was thinking I should be mad they mad Jean Grey's power "body snatching"

9

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Aug 01 '26

From that very first trailer I knew it had to be Jean. Professor X does body snatching in X-Men (2000).

I liked it here as her very limited initial powers with that 33-foot radius.

5

u/R0ttenBananas Aug 01 '26

I dont really know how she was able to connect that her sister died in that chair based off that. Maybe im nitpicking or missed something but the sister could have just been moved to a different room?

51

u/elizabnthe Aug 01 '26

He had already hinted she was dead, and that she tried to reach out to her in her last moments is a reasonable conclusion to make. Which means what she saw in those moments was VMAX. Just a random thing she happend to be looking at. Not the secret code to where she was locked up.

7

u/sut345 Aug 01 '26

Thats actually so tragic

24

u/GuardianPrime19 Aug 01 '26

She sees her sisters scrunchy but not her sister, Metzger refuses to answer Jean on where her sister is but tells her that they’ll honor her “sisters sacrifice”, then she sees V-max. That’s when it all clicks.

15

u/your_mind_aches Agent of F.I.T.Z. Aug 01 '26

The way the sticker was torn off in particular made it say V-Max, and the immense pain from the torture was making her push her head back and look straight up at the ceiling.

1

u/DeusVultSaracen Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Aug 23 '26

I'm ashamed to say I didn't get it for a few seconds there, I saw the vent vibrating and I thought that was some kind of signal that she can jump further by using the vent, or awaken her telekinesis to rip the loose vent out of the ceiling and break the glass. I was still convinced Sarah was off-facility because I was so certain everything Metzger was saying was a lie, including the thing about Sarah's "sacrifice".
