Agreed, the suit is fantastic.

We used to get sick crossovers all the time, Spidey and Black Panther in Cap, Dr. Strange in Thor, the list goes on. Since Endgame the crossover has always felt so cameo-like instead. Finally having a movie that combines everything is awesome. The main cast of this movie is Spider-Man and his two best friends, Hulk, Black Widow, The Punisher, and fucking Jean Grey of all people. That's so freaking cool.

If you told me in 2012 after I leave the theater watching Avengers 1 that we’ll get an MCU movie in the same continuity where Spider-man gets shot by Punisher using a sniper rifle, but only because he was trying to kill Jean Grey, who was talking to Aunt May. But Punisher was just trying to kill Jean Grey because she used her powers to do dangerous shit like controlling the Hulk. And that’s probably why Spider-Man and Hulk won’t be around in the next movie when Thor assembles the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four to fight Dr. Doom.

I would be like what the fuck did you just say.

If you had told me "Yeah, Aunt May somewhat kicks off the X-Men post-death by way of her ghost/memory talking down a rogue Jean Grey in a Spider-Man movie" I would've lost my mind.

And yet, it's so good. I am LOVING how they're bringing mutants in this way. Spidey is becoming the connective web of the MCU, turns out. But still, despite all that, it was still a grounded Spider-Man story. This is the promise of the MCU, just having a rich world with a wide cast of characters that you can set stories in

He's also going to be partially responsible for mutant restraining collars. That's really gonna eat at him.

Kitty will hate him the most and invent a few slurs specifically for him.

8

u/flibber_deez_gibbets Aug 03 '26

yeah, and with how unique and isolated he is already, it’s a great direction

6

u/streakermaximus Aug 06 '26

In an attic! With a 3D printer!

1

u/DeusVultSaracen Iron Man (Mark XLIII) Aug 23 '26

Hopefully they give him some shit for his creepy-ass flock cameras too

u/mlc885 Weekly Wongers Aug 01 '26

I mean, Spider-Man has always been up with Batman and Superman as one of the most loved and recognized heroes, I'd probably put the X-Men there too but the first three you can ask your elderly parents about and they know kinda

19

u/flibber_deez_gibbets Aug 01 '26

Yup. and in a way it’s kinda nice Sony has him, as he can integrate into the MCU while also transcending it. Putting Peter so much at the center of the emerging mutant landscape was an excellent choice

u/FaithlessnessThen207 Aug 03 '26

Originally I was excited for the multiverse story.

But then it seemed difficult for them to pull off narratively in a movie format.

I'm glad they stopped trying to push that so hard. Doomsday is likely multiversal but I theorise its going to solidify all the timestreams into one again.

7

u/flibber_deez_gibbets Aug 03 '26

yeah just blow after blow. Majors was great as Kang, but, well. And then all the other problems. I still like a great deal of post-Endgame, but public moods are fickle

6

u/Normal-Hornet8548 Ghost Rider Aug 09 '26

Yep, it wasn’t an Avengers movie wrapped in a Spider-Man poster or anything of the sort.

It was ground-level Spidey.

3

u/Waywoah Aug 08 '26

We better get an end credits or something showing Peter as a teacher at Xavier's school

7

u/invaderark12 Aug 03 '26

AND SOMEHOW, its still a pretty grounded movie compared to the rest and stays street level.

1

u/CeruleanEidolon Aug 12 '26

It does seem awfully close to the resolution of Thunderbolts*, though.

Incredibly powerful character with mine powers gets an emotional breakthrough within a mental projection. But I guess that's how you take down a telepath.

why are these comments not being spoiler tagged

19

u/OhThat90sGuy Aug 01 '26

It says in the opening post "Spoilers do not need to be tagged inside this thread"

3

u/Shorlong Aug 06 '26

I'm the post release discussion thread?!? Why would you be in here if you haven't seen it?

20

u/FantasticQuartet Jul 31 '26

Imagine telling all of this to someone who went to see Ironman in 2008.

15

u/CruzAderjc Aug 02 '26

When Nick Fury says “i’m here to talk to you about the Avengers Initiative”, imagine if there was a quick flashforward to Punisher sniping Jean Grey and Spider-Man taking the bullet. And then Kevin Feige is like, yeah, stick around, we’ll get to that eventually.

6

u/Federal_Bicycle_7800 Aug 01 '26

i mean infinity war and endgame were crazy enough

15

u/Positron14 Jul 31 '26

Also: he had just fought the Hand!

35

u/CruzAderjc Jul 31 '26

And got into a hot tub with a naked Black Widow. But not that Black Widow. She died. This is a younger, hotter (controversial), blonde one

7

u/RLZT Aug 01 '26

There is no controversy here my friend

1

u/Irresponsibly_mild Aug 02 '26

I know what they mean, but yeah

10

u/UnsolvedParadox Aug 01 '26

“I must have won the lottery & funded this movie myself, there’s no way Hollywood would make this.”

4

u/CruzAderjc Aug 02 '26

“No, these movies make a bagillion dollars. Hollywood indeed makes this, but also a bunch of other shitty copy cats in an attempt to replicate this. The good news is that the MCU is going to be the best thing ever. The bad news is that no other cinematic universe will come close”

3

u/TexasPeteEnthusiast Aug 01 '26

Not to mention the Hand and scorpion thrown in there for good measure.

3

u/CruzAderjc Aug 02 '26

Not to mention that Thor has to assemble all those teams against Robert Downey Jr, but not Tony Stark, because he died sacrificing himself against Thanos

3

u/ThirdCultureKid96 Aug 03 '26

This just reminded me of Patton Oswalt's improvised filibuster on Parks and Rec and we're basically there lol

2

u/tempestus9 Aug 02 '26

I swear though, it felt like something straight out of a crossover fanfiction

2

u/Monarki Aug 04 '26

Would the reason for no Spidey in Doomsday be because he's injured? And no Hulk because Banner doesn't want to Hulk?

1

u/someotherguyinNH Aug 01 '26

No doubt... It's kind of hilarious when you think about it....in a good way.

1

u/swagonflyyyy Aug 04 '26

Frank to Jean: Let me tell you somethin' red.

1

u/NeverGonnaGi5eYouUp Aug 04 '26

the end credits scene kinda suggests Spiderman is going to show up next in secret wars, which... makes sense.

I wonder if they'll use that movie as the introduction of the venom suit?

1

u/FunGeologist218 Aug 05 '26

Why won’t Spiderman be around when Thor assembles the avengers?

1

u/Samaritan_Pr1me Sep 07 '26

And this would be after watching Avengers and realizing that the door’s wide open now.

30

u/Squirrelkid11 Jul 31 '26

Perhaps we could see a team up again of Spider-Man, Hulk, Black Widow, Punisher, and Jean in the future. Wonder what the team name would be called.

Potatoes

6

u/TumorInMyBrain Jul 31 '26

Small or big ones?

12

u/BarryAllen1501 Jul 31 '26

Since we have people like Spiderman who handle Small potatoes and Yelena who handle Big potatoes, lets just keep it as Potatoes

7

u/spiderman120988 Jul 31 '26

She's seen his belly button!!!

5

u/BarryAllen1501 Jul 31 '26

dont forget his feet

3

u/spiderman120988 Jul 31 '26

Goddamn it, I ship them too!

3

u/Trvr_MKA Jul 31 '26

I want to see what they classify as Big Potatoes

9

u/ClaytonWest74 Jul 31 '26

what about Yelena’s friend Kate Beeshup, surely she’s got a part in this

8

u/Squirrelkid11 Jul 31 '26

Yeah that be a great addition and we have a perfect 6 like the OG Avengers. It should be illegal to separate Yelena and Kate.

1

u/CruzAderjc Jul 31 '26

Box office billions

9

u/BrokenReality355 Jul 31 '26

Definitely want more Spidey & Frank team ups. They had great chemistry. Never thought I'd laugh that much (in a good way) at the Punisher.

3

u/Own-Papaya-4264 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26

Yeah they don’t need to wait until the avengers movies to have a bunch of characters come together. The whole point of the MCU is that all these characters coexist. They should be doing stuff like this way more often in solo movies, otherwise we have to wait like 5 years or more before seeing some characters again and their character arcs are always on hold, which is awful.

2

u/FalenAlter Jul 31 '26

That's because so much of the early 20s stuff is trying to set up with characters who had nothing concrete to set up and no presence earlier in the movies. The single most frustrating thing about that time in the MCU.

2

u/RadiantChaos Jul 31 '26

Yeah I don't hate a lot of the stuff but I think they missed a lot of opportunities.

There absolutely should have been an Avengers movie in like 2023 or 2024 to take advantage of the new group. Put Sam-Cap there with the new Falcon, Shang-Chi, and Hulk or Black Panther or Wong or Ant-Man or whoever else.

2

u/FalenAlter Jul 31 '26

Yep, this is the righting of the ship and it took a while to get here.

2

u/Vihurah Aug 01 '26

and none of it feels bloated, it all worked. after so many spider projects where stuff felt crammed they finally (and in NWH tbf) pulled off a seamless big cast

2

u/CeruleanEidolon Aug 12 '26

It's incredibly fitting that just like Spider-Man got soft launched in a Captain America movie, he now gets to soft launch Jean Grey.

1

u/Barnd0 Aug 01 '26

💯💯💯💯💯

1

u/Matt_the_Bruins_fan Aug 10 '26

Don't forget Jean DeWolff!
