What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending October 11, 2026

This week = the one that ends/ended right now, past seven days.

The reason for this thread's existence is the fact that both requests and suggestions became kind of stale. It's supposed to bring out more manga that is not RTed or recommended. Also, it's quite useful for the discussion of not so current titles.

Previous weeks: First 72 weeks and from June 28, 2015 onwards.

Also, not a rule or any kind of criticism, the more interesting part is not the list of the stuff you read, but your impressions of it.

You can get /u/Roboragi to reply to your comment with links to MyAnimeList, MangaUpdates etc. series pages for the mentioned series. Using this format "<Manga Title> like so anywhere in the body of you comment. For example:

  • <I Bought a Mountain: Living in Another World isn't So Bad> - Mochizuki Satsuki is a woman in Japan who starts camping to relieve stress from the modern day annoyances. A scummy ex, a crappy boss, and a toxic parent cause her to keep camping as a hobby, but in the midst of that she has a dream of being offered a chance to buy a mountain by a mysterious fox. Turns out, that fox was real, and she winds up buying a mountain in another world with the goal of developing the area and enjoying herself. Now she gets to enjoy a life relaxing in a log cabin in a scenic mountain, and can still take trips to get supplies from Earth, and uncovers some mysteries about her past along the way. It's a fine manga, not particularly great by any means, but it isn't terrible. Very quickly you find Satsuki to have unusual powers even by the other world's standards, with things like plants she puts into the ground growing up overnight, and water sources springing up when she desires one. It gives her something to do until she learns why that's the case which is a good touch to keep things involved, and adds some comedy as her abilities startle not just herself, but Inari (the fox from before) as well. Plus the more recent chapters have introduced a love interest and more world elements that can become very interesting if the author handles them well. As a result, I'd lightly recommend this one, it's not so good that I would insist on it as a must-read, but it isn't a bad time either.
  • <Miss Kojima, the Widowed Young Lady, Is the Strongest and Cutest> - Kojima is a young woman working as a housekeeper in her idiot fiance's manor, when said idiot decides to fire her and break off the engagement despite Kojima's importance to his family. She has a "mysteriously" powerful family heritage and was the only one acting as a servant to them so it's kind of insane the guy acted that way, or that she was engaged to him. It only happened because her first love, the current head's older brother, passed away. So with nothing else tying her down (especially after the idiot sets fire to the cabin she was staying in), and a chance encounter with a young man named Dimitri, a vassal state's third prince, she leaves to serve a new master, at an academy where she may also finish her education. I had initially wrote this while comparing it to a mediocre series with a similar premise and current chapter amount, one with an absurdly long title that summarized the whole series. But rather than talk about a manga so bland I can't even remember a character's name in it, I decided to instead focus on this one to say that it's got a lot of potential and seems like it will be a good manga. There's only 7 or so chapters in English so far, and the academy stuff has only just started, but the first few chapters did a wonderful job of setting the stage. The world has a lot of interesting elements and worldbuilding to feel like it might actually exist, and most characters so far have motivations and personalities that have been given some time to lightly explore a bit. Kojima for example is given some layers. She's extremely capable, taking care of tasks nearly instantly and showing proficiency with tools enough to slay monsters with them, but struggles with a grief that took hold of her after her first love's departure. Dimitry as well is no perfect prince, as he's kind and has his own strengths and yet is embroiled in political conflict and suffers from a bit of an inferiority complex. I feel like many authors avoid giving flaws to their characters now, but without them the characters would become bland and meaningless. It isn't to say they are so flawed they become awful either, there's just a balance that needs to be struck to keep them interesting. It also lets the characters feel more real, and for this manga lets them have a bit of chemistry together that makes me want to read more of their interactions and time together. That's why this one gets a solid recommendation from me, with the asterisk that it's in the early stages.

Mizunoke: A Modern Tale of Mysterious Water Dwellers aka <Mizunoke: Suiiki Kaii Kitan Imayou>

This one was a good one. I just liked the supernaturally tinted intertwined interpersonal character journey of both Sayo and Kichi that it presented here in the way that it did. And even before things got bombastic, it was nice seeing the subtle ways that the two leads in their chemistry with each other were having an effect on them. Especially in regards to Sayo gradually opening up to others.

In the end it wasn't the biggest name series out there, but with it's full cast of characters (not just the main ones), their chemistry with each other with how lighthearted it could be, and the emotional core this one had at it's heart to work through, it made this one a subtle but interesting story to read.

<Oldman>

There once was an empress. Her tyrannical obsession with power and control was as great as her obsession with her youthfulness. But of the many skeletons in this empress's closet, there were two in particular of note to her that she has rotting down in her dungeons. A defeated and once renowned woman warrior and would be revolutionary against the empress who had her limbs chopped off and left to rot in the pit of the woman's failure. And an old man magician, the titular man going by Oldman, who claims to be the youthful empress's son. And in true sleight of hand showy fashion escapes from his prison cell right out from underneath the watchful eye of the empress and her royal guards. But not before taking a certain limbless woman along for the ride. This old man has a bone to pick with the empress and he'll need this strong and capable woman who wants to get revenge on the empress as much as he does. And so, joining up with a rogueish prosthetics expert to make some new <Battle Angel Alita> style limbs, and a odd nigh amnesiac woman who claims to be a clairevoiant, begins this sordid saga of revenge.

And that's the base back of the cover description I could give for this one. And before I say anything else I must say the author has a pretty good artstyle. To say nothing about how they draw faces, faces that are clearly based off of famous actors and actresses. I won't say which ones for the sake of fun but I will say, the one he used for Oldman himself made me laugh on how so very unsubtle it was.

As for the story, well, simply put I thought it was pretty good in a blockbuster movie kind of way. And even the bits of unserious banter/argument moments between the 4 main characters here were pretty funny. But what ended up being the real eyebrow raiser of intrigue was of course the backstory explanations of how the major players are interconnected with each other and why Oldman himself is so important. Can't elaborate on that cuz of spoilers, but it made for an interesting facet of the plot.

So yeah, unexpectedly came across this at random. And got really into it for how dare I say cool like a movie it was.

<Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man>

Well the title says a chunk of it for this one. This series being a crossover between Ultraman and Spider-man. In that in the wake of a battle against Dr. Doom and after a bit of a principle tiff with the rest of the Avengers both Spidey and Dr. Doom get isekai'd to Ultraman world. So while Spider-man/Peter starts getting in good with Shin Hayata and the SSSP, Dr. Doom starts making machinations in the background how he can use the unique resources of this new world to achieve his ambitions.

Which in practice ended up equating to a bunch of episodic arcs of Spidey and Ultraman going up against whatever "monster of the arc" it was. But going about taking care of them in a way centric to Spidey's whole compassionate moral compass, which given what little I know about classic Ultraman I felt was an interesting way to go about things. Which in practice though kinda made this feel like it was writing to younger demographics for a bit. Least till the climax and Dr. Doom starts finally going ham on his plans in a very protracted final arc. Then it started to feel more serious.

All and all this one was all right. Not the best Marvel Manga I've ever seen though but it got the job done for what it promised. And just the sheer fact of the fact that this crossover of all crossovers was a thing that happened gave this one no small amount of extra interest brownie points in my book.

Pokemon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages aka <Pokémon the Movie XY: Ring no Choumajin Hoopa>

This was just sitting there on the shelf and I just decided to breeze through it for funsies/out of boredom.
