I know this question probably comes up a lot, but I'd love to get an honest take on student life at Manchester Metropolitan uni-specifically regarding nightlife, social scene, and off-campus (activities).

I'm an exchange student from France (fluent in three languages) and love meeting new people, so socializing isn't an issue for me.

Since this is the only exchange semester of my degree, I want to make sure I pick a location where I can truly make the most of the experience.

How would you rate the overall social dynamic on and around campus?

Coming on exchange for sem 2 and would love to hear some opinions on the self catered accoms. Is anybody else coming to UoM for exchange in spring semester (Jan - June 2027)? I'm an incoming exchange student from Australia in my third year of a law degree. Would love to connect!

My sister will be hopefully starting at Manchester uni next year, I avoided all the uni stuff as it really wasn't for me, I know absolutely nothing about uni life or how they operate, also I've lived in rural countryside all my life and cities scare the shit out of me. I'm very anxious for my sister as she'll be staying there in student accommodation and nearest family will be like just under 2hrs away.

So a few stupid questions but i really don't know and I'd prefer to listen to real students or staff that attend there than google.. How safe is the uni? Any cases or experience of suicide, sexual assault, bullying, hard drugs & alcoholism, serious overworking... general horrible things? How safe is the city itself? Do you like being at Manchester Uni? What's the student life like?

Hello, I am thinking of going to Manchester for my teacher training year and wondered if anyone had any advice on accommodation?

I would be moving to Manchester as a new student, so wouldn't know anyone already there. Square Gardens accommodation looks nice but am worried on the social aspect of it, I think id prefer to live in a house but as mentioned I don't know anyone so dont know how id go about organising shared accom with strangers...

As the title states, my uni housemates and I are looking to find a new housemate to take one of the biggest rooms in our 7 bedroom house. It's a 15 min walk from campus, and a 10 min walk to Lidl, Tesco and other shops on Wilmslow Road.

You would have to pay monthly (or through instalments) but the weekly rate is £159.

I am a trainee clinical psychologist studying at Newcastle University. My research is looking into student identity, mental health and social belongingness. The aim is to better understand student identity and how this relates to mental health, and this will hopefully improve student mental health support at UK universities. We're a social media marketing agency expanding in Manchester and need a few more people to film for us. We make short-form content (Reels/TikToks) for restaurants, cafés, bars etc.

The job is basically: turn up at the venue, follow the shot list, film on your phone. A separate team does all the editing so you just film. Some shoots have actors or models on them.

No experience needed, we train you on real shoots. You're paid hourly while training (above minimum wage), then move onto a per-shoot freelance rate once you're filming solo, and it goes up the more you do. Could turn into a proper long-term role for the right person.

You'll need:
- a recent iPhone (any other kit, we provide)
- a few free hours a week. You pick shoots that fit around uni or work
- to actually know Instagram and TikTok. Social media marketing experience is a big plus but not essential
