Lets see how an assistant manager of CIMB get passed as an OKU
•

Bro if this little shit can be an AM at his age surely his father/mother got connection one. Don't worry, OKU card incoming.

On the OKU, maybe before standing trial, they will do an assessment, probably insisted by the defendants lawyers. Maybe it's the selection bias in the media.

why even waste time on cha siew son, the father should have write it off like some lose money "asset".

Not to imply anything, but a 5 year old dying inside a car during a slow moving traffic suggests the lack of a child seat or being safely buckled in. Hope the investigations clears things up.
•
u/notaknifeguy 2h ago
The pics from the scene shows a crumpled boot with no clear visual of damage inside the cabin.
C pillar looked largely intact and you can still see space between C and B pillars.
That together with the relatively unscathed (physically) driver at the front suggests good survivability or at least injury to a lesser extent if the rear passenger was strapped in.
•
u/uniqueusername649 2h ago
As a father this hurts so much. Even more so if its 100% preventable. People need to stop playing russian roulette in traffic with their kids. Put them in a child seat with a seatbelt. It's not that hard and it saves SO many lives.

causing death by reckless or dangerous driving
Think with a solid lawyer, you could probably shut this charge down. Shift the liability to the parent for not legally securing their kid, especially if the kid was mangled and thrown around inside the car.
•
u/devindran 2h ago
Thats not how it works. The driver is still guilty of causing the death by his own actions. However, the judge will take into account the contributory negligence of the parent when issuing the sentencing.
•
u/notaknifeguy 2h ago
I hope they charge the beza for negligence if thats the case.
Another kid gone too soon due to failure of the parents.

I'll probably be downvoted for this, but here goes:
I get why the child seat point matters, and it's genuinely useful safety info. But the timing matters too. The incident is already being turned into a racial issue elsewhere, and comments that lean toward "the parents should've done X" can read as blaming the victims, which feeds that anger. The driver's recklessness is what caused this. Maybe the car seat reminder is better saved for a separate post once things calm down, so it can actually be heard.
•
u/Rich-Option4632 1h ago
Not to mention the car behind was crumpled up to the backseat. I don't think any typical Bezza using family would have the dough to buy something that could survive that level of destruction.
•
u/Denish23 2h ago
What are the odds the child was sitting in the front seat on the mom's lap or sitting in the middle resting her head on the armrest? That kind of impact from the back would have sent her flying right?
•
u/arbiter12 2h ago
BYD tend to be big vehicles.
Seatbelts are not meant to protect you from the colliding object, they are meant to protect you from being thrown around in the car (or out of it). If a truck t-bones you, your seat belt won't save you from getting physically crushed by the few tons of metal being sent at speed, through a thin door.
It's a seat belt not a shield belt.

Yeah.
Feels like this information isn’t being released to not take away attention from the severity of this accident because you know, internet doesn’t do nuanced.
But purely from a legal POV, considering they’re charging him with driving in such manner to cause death, this presumably implies child was in safety seat/buckled in.
•
u/devindran 1h ago
Legally, they can charge him anything now i.e. the maximum at face value. During the course of the trial they can amend/lower it depending on the evidence.
•
u/new22003 2h ago
It's awful on many levels, and the BYD driver can burn in hell, but this is a totally survivavble accident for that child.
Every time an accident like this happens people say "now is not the time to talk about that"......when is the time? Because kids are dying needlessly. Put your kids in child seats and seat belts. Don't put them on your lap or let them ride on the arm rest. So many kids would be alive today if we followed the rules the rest of the world has no problem following.

Bruh, the car was crumpled up to the backseat.
The typical Bezza using family won't have the dough to buy something that could survive that destruction level, or they'd have bought X70 instead.
•
u/notaknifeguy 37m ago
Was the kid in the boot during the collision?
The boot is called crumple zone for a reason, it is designed to absorb impact and did its job.
As far as we can see, the C and B pillars were largely intact and pockets of space can be seen between them.

Why the need to mention the car he drives in the headline?
•
u/Visible-Swim6616 2h ago
Because there are people like me that saw the news about a byd hitting a 5yo, and now I see this I go "ah, they caught that guy".
•
u/thesexycucumber Selangor 2h ago
I think think his case went viral, from the video's I've seen he was truly driving like a maniac and then abandoned his car.
•
u/FatWalcott 2h ago
Probably cause the viral video was called BYD runs over person or something like that. Easier to connect the dots.
•
u/doomed151 2h ago
Yeah it's so weird. Perhaps it's a way for people to relate to the dashcam footage they saw. (if there's one)

u/Disastrous_Image2644 2h ago
Yeah, why the need to mention Perodua Bezza Nissan Almera Toyota Alphard Perodua Myvi Yamaha 135LC in the article?
Should've used Red Car A, Black Car A, White Car A, Black Car B, White Car B, Black Motorbike A.
Why so fragile hearted?
•
u/throwburgeratface 1h ago
Can only assume that it's because every single video showing the crash said "BYD". I don't think I would've known which crash the article was referring to if it didn't say "BYD".
But don't worry, a car is an object. It doesn't have feelings and cannot feel discriminated lol.

•
u/MonoChrome16 25m ago
This is weird thing for you to point out, it's very common to mentioned the type of car in the news.
Here's recent news headlines from News Straits Times:
Myvi driver killed after crashing into parked container lorry
•
u/pehpehkia 9m ago
Crashes and accidents happen all the time. We can easily identify which incident is which based on the car brand because its the most distinguishable feature of a crash.
The names of people can be used too if you are a very well known celebrity/influencer.
Race are usually not mentioned by media as it can induce and enforce stereotypes

•
u/devindran 2h ago
My thoughts exactly. EV bad! Kills people!
•
u/thestudiomaster World Citizen 2h ago
BYD is not even a fully EV car maker like Tesla. They make plug in hybrids too.
•
u/xaladin 2h ago
Lol, it's just the car maker and the model is detailed in the first sentence. Whether you associate it with China or EV, that's your subject association as a reader.
•
u/AdStreet2074 1h ago
Ev drivers are very insecure about their bad purchase!
•
u/jianh1989 49m ago
They’re more insecure about justification on their EV purchase
Not necessarily a bad purchase, just them being insecure that’s all
•
u/Robunmas 2h ago
To make it sensational and drive engagement. Because now people who hate ev will pipe in. And those who don’t hate ev will also come in to defend.
•
u/throwburgeratface 42m ago
At some point this will be debated in parliament. Not now, not next year, but surely the dots will be connected. EV cars really proliferated wheel power of more than 200hp and 250nm to the masses. And there were so many crashes around the world involving high torque high hp ev cars. Few years ago there was already talk in other countries about an additional license for sports/super cars when there was a sudden spike in crashes involving sports cars.

There will never be a right time to talk about why a child needs to be strapped in their car seat - and in this case, as much as it is the fault of the BYD driver, if the child was indeed not strapped, it’s contributory on the parents’ part. It becomes a possible defence for the driver for a more serious charge. Even the insurance company will use this against them. Sad that there’s not more awareness on this.
