What was the point/theme/meaning of the rich aristocrat family courting Don?
Well?

There i said it. It's the pinnacle of TV.
I have seen countless tv dramas, thrillers, sci fi, fantasy, and more. I have seen nearly all highly acclaimed tv shows.
And i still believe Mad men is at the very top.
It is all encompassing. It's complete. And it's the very best.
What do I mean by that? Well. For a show to be the very best. It would have to be elite in every regard. Character work, dialogue, set design, cinematography, plot, story, and more. And Mad men fires all cylinders and more.
It's an incredibly well written show with slick dialogue that has subtext to it. Character work that's second to none and arguably has the best written character on TV (Don).
I could rave on and on but I'm on a Mad men sub. So I can't explain myself here should I?
I'm tried other tv dramas people said were better than mad men. Spoiler alert.... They werent. There was always something missing. Either character work was lacking, the set design, or the score, or plot. But Mad men. Has it all.
Truly does.
I think I have to live with her fact I won't ever see a show as good as this. Lmao.

I have SUCH a different perspective on the show now. The misogyny grinds my gears and I used to think of Betty as a whiny, entitled housewife. I’m sorry, Betty. Don is no longer attractive to me because of his awful qualities as a husband and father. And Henry! I felt like he’s a bit of a creep, hitting on a pregnant, married woman and then kissing her a year later.
Peggy is still my number one girl.

I watched the show back when it came out and barely remembered it, now I'm finishing my rewatch almost done with the last season.
It is so thoroughly good and well written. It just hits different from Sopranos/Breaking Bad/The Wire etc and all other shows at the top of top tv show lists.
Goddamn is it good

Season 6, Episode 9, The Better Half
Does this scene make anyone else feel all the things?! When i see the way Don looks at Betty when he says this, im just so filled with nostalgia for them both, its both so beautiful and deeply sad at the same time ...

Anyone else feel robbed that we never got to see Ginsbergs "Invisible Boy" pitch?
I know this episode has probably been discussed hundreds of times over the years, but "the" scene where Roger is singing is SO telling of each and every character.
Don and Pete hated it. Betty was chuckling, and Bert is eating like nothing is happening, and of course Roger is doing something offensive, which would have been 'funny' at the time.
It really is a perfect snapshot of the characters, and their opinions and ethics.

Anyone else find it odd Don scolded Ginsberg for swearing? I always thought they never swore simply because it’s an AMC show. You’d think if they were on HBO, they’d be swearing up a storm. Thought it was an odd thing to write into the show.

I find Don gets more insufferable as I age and rewatch every 3-5 years or so. His charm just seems to have less effect, he's more of a weasel then a child, then extremely lucky, etc.
I swear I like Peter more often than Don now throughout the series... Don't get me started with Roger...
And yes, John Hamm's MGM ads are not helping...

Pete better take shelter, Hurricane Trudy is coming.

When Bert dies and Cutler says after Harry Crane is made partner that Don being fired is a foregone conclusion. Is this implying Harry would be the decisive vote to fire Don?
I just have never bought that it’s a lock that Harry would do that to Don. He’s never shown any real animus towards Don and especially not in the episodes leading up to Bert’s death. He tells Don that Cutler is going after Commander Cigarettes. I didn’t buy it on the first watch and I don’t now.

Doesn't have to be music sounding or related!
Some suggestions so far: Scout's Honor, Miss Blankenship, Sterling's Gold
Just wanted to hear more detailed thoughts, with specific examples, on how Roger might have kept Hilton happy and where he might have succeeded where Don failed
I'm watching the show for the first time, and this caught me off guard. I've seen some older comments saying that Peggy had her "Don day" (which seems to be the general consensus): she told off a client, went to the movies and got involved in sexual activity. But I don't really see it.
Don going off to have sex with some random woman and Peggy jerking off some random guy don't really seem like the same thing to me. What do you guys think?

For me it is that consumerism is a scourge and men can't be trusted ;)

For me, it's gotta be Freddy Rumsen coming out of his office to do Mozart on his zipper. It's goofy and stupid and the timing of it just as Cosgrove is trying to hit on Jane makes it so awkward and hilarious that it never gets old.

Same as title

It contains so much of the series in a single frame. Where Don comes from in the past, his children/future. His true identity hidden and later revealed. Betty is absent due to divorce/his present state. I think this could be the single most revealing frame of the show condensed in one image.

So I watched the show pretty much as it was in air and now I’m finally deciding to revisit it. I’m curious if anything in particular stood out to you upon a repeat viewing?

One of many similarities between Mad Men and the Sopranos is a lost white person taking a Sanskrit name.
It's funny that Kinsey is always trying to lift himself beyond his mediocrity.

Rewatching for the umpteenth time, this scene still gives me happy chills.
