Captured on a particularly misty morning with my Canon 100mm macro lens. After a longer break, I’m enjoying spending more time with macro photography again.

Today I had the opportunity to photograph a European hornet (Vespa crabro); at about 3.5 cm in length, it is a truly large and impressive specimen. I am very happy with this single shot macro.

The first one is a stack of around 6 photos. Shoutout to that super cooperative stinkbug.

All of them were taken with:
Canon R100
18-45mm kit lens + Ext. Tubes
Viltroz Spark Z3 flash + DIY pringles can diffuser
I like to call it "The broke student macro build"

I haven't shot anything in awhile so decided to see what I could find in my friends garden after some rain. I love how this one came out.

This species has a beautiful green glow in the reflection of the two eyes in the middle

I used a couple of pocket LEDs and cheap extension tubes to make this local wild mushroom look completely magical. Shot on my old Canon 7D.

Canon r7 mirrorless

100 mm macro with flash and diffuser

Brand new to macro photography. Definitely harder than it looks but very rewarding.

Took these while I had a mpe-65 for loan.
Handheld with a sigma ring flash for lighting. No stacking.

My Wasp habitat survived. Shot with a Nothing Phone 3a Pro.

THE CLOSER, THE STRANGER

We draw closer, thinking we'll see more. Yet some distances help us see things for what they are, while others leave us unable to tell what we're looking at.

Same subjects. Different distances. Different worlds.

A broad-headed bark spider (Caerostris sp)

Have you seen one before?

I have just known that there's a National Caterpillar Day, celebrated on September 15!

I missed it this year, so let me celebrate it a month late! 🐛

Here are some caterpillar photos I took last year.
