šŸ’Ž Megathread [Megathread] The App Pile - October, 2026

Post image
42 Upvotes

You must promote your apps here if you do not qualify to post in the main feed through Trust or Transparency, explained here.

If you are:

  • NOT in the Mac App Store (MAS).
  • Do not provide meaningful public transparency
  • Created yet another dictation app (speech to text).

Then you are required to limit promotion to this megathread.

All promotion MUST follow PCP format or else we will remove it:

App Name/Title [Screenshot/Video REQUIRED for top 3 consideration]

  • Problem: What problem does your app SOLVE.
  • Comparison: EXPLICITLY name a competitor or two in the same space and explain what your app does better. Include something a competitor is better at if you want to be classy and build trust.
  • Pricing Amounts required for any/all tiers + link to the app website (NO direct .zip/.dmg file links)

P.s. The shorter the better! Promotion here counts towards the 30-day limited promotion (Rule 3).

WARNING: There is a 90% chance Reddit will auto remove your post here if you have not verified your email in your profile and your first comment in this subreddit contains a link. Accrue 10 karma first without promotional comments and links to avoid this. The odds of removal is also higher for AI assisted posts (em dashes and other AI formatting characteristics likely trigger this).

Pro Tip: Please remember to upvote gems and downvote spam/clones... This will help inform a secret community project I hope to announce next month.

Top Picks from Last Month's Megathread that I think are worth a look:

  1. Tangerine - Shift-drag file converter and modifier that works offline, $15 one-time - by u/t-2049
  2. DeskJoin Screen - Turns a spare Mac into a second display over your local network, FREE - by u/Neville_12345
  3. Sideref - Floating reference board for images and notes, $8 for 3 Macs with 12 months of updates - by u/chaser_nocturm
  4. NudgeLine - A quiet calendar timeline pinned to the edge of your screen, FREE and open source - by u/Dull-Problem-3748
  5. BendMac - Folds the desktop as you close your MacBook, FREE - by u/IuCCREDDIT

Attention! r/MacApps Mods Went Too Far! What’s Changing (Phase 3)

TLDR graphic, but please, read the rest if you spend time in r/MacApps.

Phase 2 Report: Last month we introduced PCPCA post formatting requirements to include detail minimums in every app promotion (Problem, Compare, Pricing, Changelog, AI Disclaimer).Ā This caused way too much work, with 2,700+ items removed and 1,400 modmail messages sent. With the mods runing everything, user engagement dropped with views down 204k. That's okay, though; quality over quantity. Still, this is Reddit, and you should retain the power to promote or bury posts.

Change 1: Simplify Posts (PCP)

Moving forward, we are reducing post-formatting expectations to: Problem, Comparison, Pricing (PCP).Ā

  • Problem: What problem does your app solve.
  • Comparison: Name 1–2 top competitors and describe how what you offer is better. [Example]
  • Pricing: Include Price Amounts+Link

Requiring changelogs and AI disclaimers was unsuccessful to meaningfully differentiate quality apps from spam.Ā Nearly all posts claimed sufficient knowledge and experience for ā€œHuman validationā€ of AI code. Let's move on. šŸ˜…

Change 2: Trust, Transparency, or The App Pile [Megathread]

We have been discussing how to better protect the sub from low-effort app spam, throwaway-account promotion, and unknown software links, without making life harder for legitimate developers.Ā

Concept: The less trust your distribution path provides, the more transparency you should need.

  • In theĀ MacĀ App Store? Apple is screening you for us.Ā
  • If you have an established GitHub project, that can also build trust over time.Ā
  • But if you are asking people to install software from a random site or brand-new repo, we need more reason to trust.

To make this clearer, we are experimenting with aĀ three-tier approach for the next month:

Tier 1: The Trust Path = Post to Main feed.

These devs have the easiest route to posting in the main r/MacApps feed:

  • Mac App Store developers (Paid developer accounts + App Store Distribution). Notarization alone does not count here.
  • Developers with established GitHub projects, meaningĀ 1yr+ consistent general development history and real community interest (100+ stars for the repository being promoted).
  • Recognized Developers granted a user flair (already well-known / trusted in r/MacApps)

Any of these 3 trust signals will allow posting in r/MacApps, as long as you have 10+ local karma.

Tier 2: The Transparency Path = Post to Main feed.

If you are NOT in the Mac App Store and are not already an established developer, you may still qualify for main-feed posting by being open about who you are and giving users reasons to trust you.

Such app promotion posts must include BOTH:

  1. A developer portfolio with a real life identity,Ā LinkedIn, andĀ realĀ contact details (e.g. establishedĀ company / business presence). LinkedIn is more helpful here if it lists experience.
  2. A website that has a Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

These trust signals should show you are not just a throwaway account dropping unknown software for us to try and should be included in your post to establish trust with your target users.

This is basically the middle ground: you may not yet have a major reputation, but you are willing to stand behind your app in public and work to gain a good reputation.

Tier 3: Everyone else: ā€œThe App Pileā€ [Megathread]

If you do not qualify through either trust or transparency, your app promo belongs in the Megathread rather than the main feed.

That means if you are:

  • Not in the App Store
  • Without a developer flair as an established developer (500+ r/MacApps participation karma AND Moderator’s discretion).
  • Do not have an established GitHub history (1yr old repo OR 100+ stars)
  • Do not provide meaningful public transparency

…then you are limited to The App Pile Megathread.

This is not meant as an insult or a blanket statement that new apps are bad. It is just the lowest-risk place for unproven or low-context app promotion until trust is earned.

Users can check your app out, up/downvote your comments, and as you gain community karma you may eventually receive an app-flair that allows you to promote outside of the megathread. Nobody is forced to post here since anyone can choose to follow Tier 2.

Promotion Frequency RevisionĀ (Rule 3)

Infrequent self-promotion is permitted; however, it is not permitted more than once per developer in 30 days. This is counted from the last app post, even if it was removed.

For well-established, recognized devs with an app-flair, once per app per month.

ALWAYS disclose your relationship to your software in comments promoting your app. Promoting your own app in comments is disallowed until you earn 10 karma in r/MacApps and in poor taste when hijacking another developer’s promotion.

Sharing useful alternatives and healthy competition is still welcome, but using the comment section in someone else’s post as a backdoor for self-promo and SEO is not always in good taste and does not make r/MacApps a better place.

The Community's Role:

  • Please use your votes and reports especially in the Megathread to help recognize hidden gems.Ā
  • Bury what looks low-effort, suspicious, misleading, or privacy-invasive.

A better r/MacApps depends not just on our rules, but on you helping surface good apps while pushing bad ones out of the way.

-----

FAQ:Ā
I followed the rules, why was my post/comment removed?Ā

  1. AI assisted comments are a huge trigger for Reddit auto-removals because of recognizable patternsĀ (e.g. ā€œā€”ā€ em dashes).
  2. Repeatedly posting the same thing (comments, links, etc.) = Triggers Reddit spam algorithms.Ā
  3. You didn’t verify your email in your profile, and/or you have multiple accounts.Ā
  4. You missed one or more rules and tried to repost rather than editing and letting us restore it. This leaves a strike on your account.

Lifetime Docktopus: a customizable Mac dock with Dynamic Island, an audio mixer, and local activity history

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

Hey r/macapps,

I’m the developer of Docktopus. It’s a customizable dock with a bunch of desktop tools built into it, so you can reach them from the same place as your apps.

Compared with the stock macOS Dock, the biggest difference is what you can put alongside your app icons: window previews, clipboard history, audio controls, system stats, and more. You choose the widgets and layout, so it can be a small dock or a full taskbar.

There’s quite a bit in it now:

- Dock and window switching: Hover over a running app to preview its windows and click the one you want. There’s also a keyboard window switcher. You can import your existing macOS Dock, pin apps and folders, place it on any screen edge, and choose which monitors show it.

- Dynamic Island: An optional expandable panel at the top of your screen for music controls, clipboard history, system stats, calendar events, notifications, and audio/display controls. It also has a Drop Zone for temporarily keeping files within reach. Works on displays without a notch too.

- Clipboard manager: Search copied text, links, images, and files; pin things you reuse and organize them into categories. Text recognition runs on your Mac, so you can find a copied screenshot by words inside it.

- Time Spent: See where your day went with app usage, daily trends, and browser titles/URLs where supported. You can add manual entries, run timers, and export filtered records as CSV. Automatic tracking is optional, and the history stays on your Mac.

- Remembrance: For those ā€œI saw this somewhere yesterdayā€ moments. It can save screenshots of your active windows and recognize their text, letting you search past work by text, app, or date. You can copy text from captures or reopen a page when its URL is available. Capture is off by default, with app exclusions and storage/retention controls.

- Audio Mixer: Turn down one app without turning everything else down. Adjust or mute individual apps, switch audio outputs, and manage system volume from the dock, menu bar, or Island. Per-app controls need macOS 14.2 or newer.

- Other useful bits: CPU/GPU, memory, and network stats; brightness controls for compatible displays; calendar, timers, Now Playing, a color picker, and Coffee to keep your Mac awake.

For the look, there’s Liquid Glass, CDE, and Windows 95, all in light and dark versions, plus editable colors, fonts, and icons. Yes, the Windows 95 theme includes the retro taskbar look.

Clipboard history, Time Spent, and Remembrance stay local. There’s also a Privacy Pause that temporarily stops all three from collecting new activity.

There’s a trial before buying. Launch pricing is $19.99 ($29.99 regular), one-time for two Macs, with a year of updates included. You can keep using covered versions afterward without a subscription.

Website: https://docktopus.app

Would be interested to hear which parts you’d use day to day, or what’s missing from your current dock setup.

Lifetime DoubleMemory 3.2 — local-first bookmarks for Mac. Your iCloud, not my servers. New: Listen, discovery, a web app and a CLI

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi r/macapps. I am Shao, the solo developer of DoubleMemory.

Version 3.2 is now on the Mac App Store. The video above gives a short tour.

Problem

I built DoubleMemory around three things: capture without friction, find without manual filing, and use what you save.

1. Capture should not interrupt you

You find something worth keeping. Saving it should not become another task.

On Mac, press ⌘C twice or ⇧ twice to save selected text. With no selection, double Shift saves the clipboard. You do not need to install a browser extension, create a DoubleMemory account or set up an integration.

2. Finding should not depend on how well you organize

Saving is easy. Keeping every item sorted and tagged is work.

Apple Intelligence adds tags automatically. Press āŒ˜ā‡§Space to open search and find a saved item. You do not have to stop what you are doing to open and browse the app.

Search also finds text inside saved screenshots and photos.

3. Saving should lead to using

A saved article is not much use if you never return to it.

Read it in reader mode. Hear it in Listen mode. Scan your library in list view, or explore it in the new Discovery mode.

Your library is also available outside the native apps. Open the web app on an Android tablet. Let an agent read saved articles through the CLI and use them as source material for a podcast digest.

The goal is not just to collect more. It is to make what you save useful.

Your library stays with you

DoubleMemory keeps your library on your device first. It syncs across Mac, iPhone and iPad through your own iCloud.

You do not need a DoubleMemory account. I do not store your library on my servers. Your local library does not depend on a service that I must keep running. Sync and web access still depend on Apple's iCloud.

What changed since 2.0

  • Stability improvement. Admittedly, v2 and the initial rewrite of our grid view were buggy, now things are much more stable thanks to our community's testing and collab.
  • Listen. Apple Intelligence adapts saved articles for listening. The app then reads your queue aloud, one article after another.
  • Discovery mode. A new immersive way to browse your saved items and find something to revisit.
  • Images with searchable text. Save screenshots and photos. DoubleMemory reads the text in each image, so you can find it with search. (since v2.1)
  • List view and reader mode. See the title, source, tags and date in one row. Open reader mode to read without the page clutter.
  • Double ⇧ on Mac. Press Shift twice to save selected text. With no selection, it saves the clipboard.
  • Siri, Shortcuts and App Intents. Use actions to save, find and listen. ā€œAsk Memoryā€ answers questions about your saved items on your device. Siri can still be slow, so I would not use it instead of the Apple Shortcuts (powered by the same app intents) or keyboard shortcuts for quick capture or search.
  • dbm, a CLI for agents and scripts. Save, search, read, update and archive items in your library. Use JSON for input and output. An agent can use it to read source material for a summary or podcast digest. The agent handles generation; dbm does not call an AI model. Install it with brew install idealistspace/tap/dbm.
  • A web app. Open https://web.doublememory.com in a browser, including on Windows, Android and Linux. Sign in with your Apple Account to use the same iCloud library.
  • Trash, restore, undo and redo. New in 3.2.
  • PopClip extension. Select text, then click ā€œSave to DoubleMemoryā€. This is optional; the keyboard shortcuts do not need it.
  • Import tools. Bring in saved items from Safari, Pocket, Readwise, Omnivore and mymind. The converters run in your browser. They do not upload your data.

The Apple Intelligence features need a supported device.

Full changelog: https://doublememory.com/posts/changelog

Comparison

Here is how DoubleMemory compares with Raindrop.io and a self-hosted Karakeep setup.

Feature DoubleMemory Raindrop.io Karakeep (self-hosted)
Library storage Your devices and your iCloud The provider's servers Your server
Setup Open the app and start saving Create an account Install and maintain the server
AI processing On your device with Apple Intelligence Hosted processing Your chosen AI provider or a local model
Main dependency Apple devices; iCloud for sync The hosted service The server you maintain

Compared to hosted services: A hosted service manages storage and processing for you. That is useful, but your library depends on that service.

DoubleMemory takes a different approach. Your devices and iCloud handle the storage. Your device runs the built-in AI features. I do not pay to store and process each user's library on my servers. That keeps my running costs low and helps me keep the core free.

Compared to self-hosting: Self-hosting gives you more control over where your data lives and how the service runs. But you also manage the server, updates, backups and remote access.

DoubleMemory avoids that work. The trade-off is that it uses Apple's platforms and iCloud. It is not the same as running your own server.

Where the alternatives are better: Raindrop.io and Karakeep have Android apps and browser extensions. Raindrop.io also has a Windows app.

DoubleMemory has native apps for Mac, iPhone and iPad. The web app gives you access elsewhere, but it does not replace every native feature. You need iCloud for sync and web access.

Pricing

  • Free: unlimited items, iCloud sync and up to 3 saved searches. The app occasionally asks you to subscribe.
  • Plus: $29.99 a year. Unlimited saved searches. No requests to subscribe.
  • Kindred Spirit: $79.99 once for lifetime access to everything in Plus.

Students and educators: Contact me from your school email address for a 50% off code.

Prices are in USD. Prices in other countries are adjusted for local purchasing power.

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6737529034
Plans: https://doublememory.com/pricing

About the price change: On October 15, Plus increased from $17.99 to $29.99 a year. Kindred Spirit increased from $59.99 to $79.99. Current subscribers keep their $17.99 annual price.

I want to test paid search ads to reach more people. The new prices help cover that cost. Keeping the app running is inexpensive; building it and helping people find it still take time and money.

Two offers for r/macapps

1. Ten codes for a free year of Plus

Tell me one feature from a bookmarking app you have used that you want in DoubleMemory. Explain why it matters to you.

Subscription Soot: a simple notes app for Mac, iPad and iPhone, somewhere between Apple Notes and Obsidian (public beta)

I know. Announcing a notes app on Reddit is about as original as starting a podcast, so I’ll stick to the format.

Problem

My notes were split between Apple Notes and Obsidian. Notes is lovely to open and type in, but everything sits in a database, and I want my AI assistants working with my notes. Obsidian has the plain Markdown files I want, but I kept ending up in plugins and settings instead of writing.

Comparison

Soot sits between Apple Notes and Obsidian, and it’s closest in feel to Bear.

Like Notes, you open it and write, with no plugins, settings or account to deal with first. Unlike Notes, every note is a plain .md file in a folder you choose, so other apps can open it and AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini CLI, Cursor) can work with your notes on your Mac.

Like Obsidian, it’s Markdown files in folders, but with far less app around them. The formatting shows as you type and the Markdown symbols don’t, unless you’d rather see them.

Like Bear, it’s a native writing app, but it hides more of the Markdown than Bear does, and your notes are plain files in folders, with tags too if you want them, instead of living in a database.

It’s written in Swift, not Electron. Folders, search, twelve themes, and optional end-to-end encrypted sync. I can’t read your notes.

The full feature list is here:Ā https://sootsync.com/features

Pricing

The whole editor is free. Soot Pro adds sync between devices for $2.49 a month or $24.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial on the yearly plan. It’s a TestFlight beta for now, and you can join atĀ https://sootsync.com

Who’s behind it

Lifetime Attic 1.0: a menu bar app that puts old screenshots and downloads away by itself (moves, never deletes, one-click undo)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi r/macapps! I'm Pablo, the developer of Attic. It's a small native menu bar app (Swift, SwiftUI and AppKit) and 1.0 is out. The video is the animated intro from my site; the app itself lives in the menu bar.

Problem

Screenshots pile up wherever macOS saves them, and Downloads never empties itself. Clearing both by hand is the chore nobody does. Attic does it on a schedule, with four rules and no setup:

  • Screenshots and screen recordings after 2 days. It reads where macOS actually saves them, even if you changed the folder
  • Installers (.dmg, .pkg) in Downloads after 2 days, or at the next sweep if that app is already in your Applications folder
  • Everything else in Downloads after 2 weeks. Half-finished downloads are never touched
  • Other Desktop files only if you turn that on

It sweeps once a day (9:00 by default), once a week, or only when you ask. You can change the days, switch any rule off, or tag a file "Keep" so it stays. The first time you open it, it shows you the list of what it would move, and nothing moves until you click Sweep Now.

What it won't do:

  • Delete anything on its own. Files go to ~/Attic, sorted by month, where you can browse, search, Quick Look and restore them. When you want the space back, the attic window has a Move to Trash button, and it asks first
  • Overwrite anything. If a name is taken, the file gets " 2"
  • Upload anything. No account and no analytics in the app. It only goes online to check the license (about once a week: the key, a hashed Mac ID, the Mac model and the app version) and to check for updates, which you can turn off
  • Hold your files hostage. Undo, restore and the attic keep working without a license

Comparison

Hazel is the obvious one, and it's far more powerful: any folder, any condition, renaming, scripts. If you already have Hazel rules for this, you don't need Attic. Attic is for people who never got around to writing those rules. It works out of the box, it never deletes anything on its own, and Undo puts the last sweep back in one click.

CleanMyMac does a different job: it deletes caches and junk to free up space. Attic doesn't clean anything, it moves clutter out of the way where you can still find it.

Pricing

  • One-time purchase, no subscription. 2 Macs, free 1.x updates, 14-day refund with no questions asked
  • Price ladder: $5 for the first 100 licenses, $9 for the next 200, then $15. It goes up by licenses sold, not by date. Most of the first 100 are still left as I write this, and the site always shows the current price
  • There's no trial, which is why the refund has no questions
  • macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel
  • Website: https://atticmac.com

Transparency

I'm Pablo FernƔndez JimƩnez, a solo developer in Spain. Attic is signed with my Developer ID and notarized by Apple. It's sold direct, not on the Mac App Store, because a sandboxed app can't watch the folder where macOS saves screenshots.

I'll be around all day for questions, feature requests and criticism, the brutal kind included.

Lifetime Crest 6.5: two-factor codes in the MacBook notch, typed in for you when a site asks

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm the developer, so this is me promoting my own app, said up front. Crest is a notch app for the Mac. Closed source, signed and notarized, distributed from crestnotch.app (not the App Store: the hooks and Accessibility access it needs aren't allowed in the sandbox). macOS 14 or newer; on a Mac without a notch it's a small pill at the top of the screen.

Problem

I used to pay $15 a year for a Mac authenticator, and every login still meant opening the app, finding the account, waiting for a fresh code and typing six digits. Authy shut down its Mac app in 2024 and Google Authenticator has no Mac app.

So Crest 6.5 adds an Authenticator. Your codes live in the notch. When a site asks for a code in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave or Edge, Crest offers it and types it in for you. In any other app, one press copies it. The codes are locked behind Touch ID and sync across your Macs, end-to-end encrypted. Mac only, there's no iPhone app.

The rest of Crest is the notch app some of you saw before: music on the closed notch, pages of widgets (calendar with Join, to-dos, notes, weather, clipboard history, a file Shelf, window snapping), and Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI questions and permission prompts answered from the notch.

Comparison

Authenticators:

  • Apple Passwords: free and built into macOS Sequoia and later, syncs with your iPhone, and suggests codes when a site asks. If you live in Apple's apps and use an iPhone, it's the obvious pick. Crest's difference is that the code comes up in the notch and Crest types it in, in Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave and Edge.
  • NotchOTP: free and open source, codes in a panel under the notch, fully offline. If you want just codes and no sync, it's great. It copies the code; Crest types it in and syncs across Macs.
  • Step Two: free, Unlimited is $9.99, iCloud sync and a Safari extension. A good standalone authenticator; it isn't in the notch.

Notch apps:

  • NotchNook: $25 once or $3 a month, 48-hour trial. Polished, with a file tray and media. No authenticator and no coding-agent prompts.
  • Boring Notch: free and open source, music and files. If that's all you need, use it.

What I couldn't find in any of them: 2FA codes typed in from the notch, synced across Macs, in the same app where you answer Claude Code. That's the whole bet. If I got any of these wrong, tell me and I'll fix it.

Pricing

  • Free tier: $0, no account, never expires. Now Playing, the clipboard, the file Shelf, window snapping, and answering your coding agents.
  • Crest Pro, one-time: $24.99 once, tax included. Includes the Authenticator, every widget, and my two other apps, Take (screen recorder) and Minutes (meeting notes). 2 Macs per licence, updates included.
  • Crest Pro, subscription instead: $2.99 a month or $14.99 a year, the same Pro. Cancel any time.
  • Sale until Oct 22: the one-time licence is $19.99 (no code needed).
  • 7-day free Pro week when you sign in (Google, Apple or email, no card). 7-day refund.

The codes and accounts in the video are fake demo data.

Lifetime Anchor – a small Mac app for managing NAS shares

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've just releasedĀ Anchor, a little Mac utility I've been working on for a while. It's my first publicly released app.

Problem

I've worked in media for years, on both the creative and technical sides, often in high-pressure, networked environments. I have a couple of Synology NAS devices at home that I use for photography and other projects, and always found managing network folders on a Mac more fiddly than it needed to be. Particularly after sleep, switching networks or taking a laptop away and bringing it back.

So I built Anchor.

It lives in the menu bar, keeping SMB shares from NAS devices and other network servers organised and accessible. You can choose which folders connect automatically, mount or open shares with a click, and pause or disconnect them when needed. It reconnects when your NAS or server becomes available again.

It did what I needed months ago, but I kept refining and testing it, including with a small beta group.

Interestingly, it's changed my own workflow too. I now instinctively reach for the menu bar rather than Finder when accessing network folders.

Comparison

FinderĀ handles basic mounting for free, but doesn't provide the same ongoing connection management or central place to access your shares or see their status.

AutoMounterĀ offers more advanced options and supports other protocols.

Anchor takes a simpler, SMB-focused approach, with straightforward setup and quick access from the menu bar.

Pricing

Ā£9.99 / $12.99 / €11.99. One-off licence, no subscription, with a fully functional 14-day trial.

Currently 30% off for the first 50 purchases as a launch offer.

https://quietformlabs.com/anchor

The short video shows Anchor checking and reconnecting shares after a Mac wakes up.

I'd be interested to hear how other Mac users manage their NAS or server shares, and whether you've encountered similar frustrations.

Steve, Quiet Form Labs

Quiet Form Labs is a trading name of Quiet Form Media Ltd, a UK-registered company. The app is signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate matching the registered company and is notarised by Apple.

Help Markdown based UpNote OR UpNote/Craft Alternatives

Because of my studies and self-learning, I use a lot of digital notes. Most of the AI brainstorming notes are markdown. I am not happy with Obsidian, closest thing I liked was UpNote, it's almost perfect except for the lack of markdown formatting and AI interoperability. That just sucks.

Are there any apps that are not subscription, a pleasure to use aesthetically, potentially great with AI enhanced note management and creation?

I found some tools like Wander, Lettera (in full Beta, made by Bear note's team), Skein, Nodes, Marklet...but wanted to ask your opinion guys.

Everything feels more complex than it should be. Feels like there must be something else. Especially the readability is important for me, graph. Diagrams, images, etc. If there is no app to match this, I may even ditch markdown completely. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Edit: AI editing and AI interoperability is not a must. Learning should be a pleasure imho, and things like raw markdown, latex etc are painful. That's the gist of my quest here. Thanks.

Help Looking for a ToothFairy alternative for non apple headphones, and peripherals? What are you using?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a solid macOS utility to manage my Bluetooth connections and peripherals, similar to what ToothFairy does.

However, my setup is a bit different from the usual AirPods crowd. I don’t use any apple based earphones/headphones. My main audio devices are Bose, Sony and a generic Bluetooth desktop speaker. I have Bluetooth mouse and keyboard too.

I know ToothFairy is highly recommended and I know not using a 3rd party is also an option but where is the fun in that.

Are there any other hidden gems or robust utilities that work flawlessly with third-party audio and multidevice setups?

Thanks

Lifetime Shiori Bookmarks - A lean and clean bookmark manager

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everybody

Problem: Bookmarks are spread across browsers, devices and profiles.

Shiori is a menu bar bookmark manager, fully keyboard driven, called with a hot key and saves URLs in seconds, keeping them fully synced across your devices within seconds, available on Mac, Google Chrome, Web dashboard and soon to be supported on Safari (waiting for Apple final approval)

The video you can see me launching URLs, and they are directed to the specific browser profile I routed them to (with tag-based routing), using Link Groups to open multiple URLs at once and navigating the UI

Platforms currently under development

Windows - App exists, early testing phase.

Linux - App exists, early testing phase.

iOS/Android - yet to be started.

API/MCP - Coming soon.

Core Features

- Bookmarks are instantly synced between devices, one license covers unlimited devices, all extensions and all apps across platforms.

- Tag-based browser routing - open tagged bookmarks on specific Google Chrome profiles.

- Link Groups - Launch a group of URLs at once, with a single click.

- Super fast Keyboard-driven access through the menu bar. Quick search bookmarks by URL, title, description or tag.

Comparison

In comparison to bookmark managers such asĀ Raindrop.ioĀ which is very feature rich, Shiori takes the leaner quick access approach.

There are a couple of other bookmark managers with the name Shiori like shiori.sh (which means bookmarks in Japanese btw), they are not related to this app.

Pricing

ShioriĀ is a one-time payment of €29.99 including all future updates. No subscriptions.

Lifetime Noticky Wall – an infinite canvas with live Kanban, Calendar and Timeline views

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've shared a few Noticky updates here before, but today I wanted to show something I've been working on: Noticky Wall.

It's an infinite canvas for Mac and Web, with a slightly different approach to organizing projects.

Problem

Infinite canvases are great for brainstorming, collecting references and connecting ideas. But once those ideas turn into actual work, you often end up recreating everything in a task manager or calendar.

That's what I wanted to address with Wall.

You can start with notes, PDFs, screenshots, files, mind maps and connectors, then add structure as your project evolves.

The part I'm most interested in is Live Views:

  • Kanban: Organize tasks by status.
  • Calendar: See tasks and deadlines by date.
  • Timeline: Visualize schedules and project milestones.
  • Table: Work with the same data in a structured format.

These aren't separate copies of your project. They use the same underlying objects, so changes are reflected across views.

You can even keep these views directly on your canvas, alongside your research and visual references.

The Mac version also includes Finder references, watched folders, multiple windows, offline support and optional iCloud sync.

Comparison

Apple Freeform is excellent for freeform brainstorming and drawing.
Obsidian Canvas is great if your work lives in Markdown notes and a local vault.
Milanote is particularly good for creative boards and moodboards.

Wall focuses on what happens after brainstorming: turning visual ideas into structured work while keeping the original context around them.

A little about Noticky

Wall is part of the Noticky family. There's also Noticky for Mac (floating sticky notes that stay above fullscreen apps) and Noticky for iPhone, which I recently released.

They're separate apps, each built around a different way of working with notes and ideas.

Pricing

  • Wall Web: Free
  • Wall for Mac: $39.99 one-time
  • Web Pro: $49/year, optional

Website: https://wall.noticky.app/

Privacy: https://wall.noticky.app/privacy/

AI Disclaimer: Human Validated + Code completion

I'm curious how people here handle this. Do you prefer keeping your brainstorming and project planning in separate apps, or would you rather have everything connected on the same canvas?

For the Reddit community, I've also added a 25% discount on Wall for Mac with code:

REDDIT25 -> $29.99 instead of $39.99, one-time purchase. Valid for 7 days.

Lifetime Unfold — Preview almost anything on your Mac

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! šŸ‘‹šŸ»

Unfold is a native macOS app that extends Quick Look so you can preview 250+ file types. New in the latest version: 3D model previews.

Formats:
- [NEW] 3D models (.3mf, .step)
- Folders & Archives
- Markdown & Jupyter
- Source code
- Comics & ebooks
- LaTeX & BibTeX
- App bundles (.app)
- Subtitles
- Web Archives

→ Full list available here.

Problem: Quick Look can't preview most file types, and the extensions that fix this usually cover one format each and are often not properly maintained.

Comparison: Unlike utilities like Looq, Unfold caters to a much broader audience. It previews code too, but also supports 3D formats like 3MF and STEP (with Finder thumbnails), alongside the aforementioned everyday formats like ebooks, comics, subtitles, and more.

Price: $10 for a lifetime license (up to 5 devices)
7-day trial available.

Lifetime Cursor Teleporter 2.0: jump between screens and saved cursor positions with keyboard shortcuts

Thumbnail
gallery
7 Upvotes

Hello again,

It’s Marcin from Apptorium. I’ve just released Cursor Teleporter 2.0, a major update to my app for moving your cursor between displays and saved positions using keyboard shortcuts.

The idea is simple: if you keep moving the pointer between the same places, you can save those positions and jump between them instead. Think of an editor and the iOS Simulator, a timeline and a preview window, or a canvas and a color palette. It works on a single screen, too.

What’s new in 2.0:

  • Edge Teleporting: move through a screen edge to appear on the opposite side. You can choose which edges are active and whether a modifier key is required.
  • A visual saved-points overview: see your saved positions across your displays and add or remove points.
  • More flexible shortcuts: jump forwards or backwards, with separate shortcuts for displays and saved points.
  • Find your cursor: highlight its current position with a shortcut, without moving it.
  • Automation: support for Apple Shortcuts and AppleScript, plus an expanded URL API.

I also redesigned the menu bar panel and settings, added new animations, and made the animation speed adjustable.

Pricing and availability

For new users, Cursor Teleporter isĀ $7.99 as a one-time purchase, with no subscription. Updates within a major version are always included; major upgrades may be paid.

For 2.0, I decided to make the upgradeĀ free for everyone who already owns the app, including Mac App Store customers.

Requires macOS 26 or later.

Free Tessel, a free Mac window manager with automatic tiling, tabs across apps, and window pinning

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve been working on Tessel, a menu bar app that arranges your Mac’s windows and lets you group windows from different apps into tabs. It’s now available as a free, signed and notarized beta.

What it does:
Choose Set Windows from the menu bar to arrange your open windows. You can then change the layout by dragging:

• Drop a window near another window’s edge to split that space.

• Drop it in the middle to group them into tabs, even if they’re from different apps.

• Drag the divider between windows to resize both sides together.•

Close or minimize a window and the surrounding windows expand into the gap.•

Save an arrangement and restore it later with a keyboard shortcut.

For example, Mail, Calendar and Notes can share one tabbed space while your browser stays beside them.

You can switch between those apps from the tab bar without changing the rest of the layout.

There’s also Pin & Focus. A three-finger tap pins a live view of a window above your other apps. A three-finger hold locks focus to the current app.

Both have keyboard shortcuts if you don’t use a trackpad. An optional Window Map lets you find and activate windows, including hidden tabs and minimized windows.

Works with:Regular macOS app windows, including windows from different apps grouped together.

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later and supports Apple silicon and Intel Macs.Accessibility permission is required to manage windows. Screen Recording is needed for window previews and pinning.

Window previews are processed locally. Settings, saved layouts and diagnostic reports stay on your Mac. No account, no analytics, and no uploads of your window content.

Problem:I wanted to arrange windows by moving them directly, keep related apps together, and have the layout adjust when a window disappears. Closing one window should give the remaining windows more room, without having to resize each one.I also wanted to keep a live view of another window visible while working elsewhere.

Comparison:ļæ¼Rectangle is a free, open-source option for snapping windows into positions using shortcuts or screen edges. Tessel’s advantage is managing the arrangement as a whole: neighboring windows resize together, closing or minimizing one frees space for the others, and several apps can share one tile through tabs. That makes it more convenient when you keep changing which windows are open.ļæ¼

Amethyst already handles automatic tiling, with several layouts and extensive keyboard controls. Tessel’s advantage for someone who prefers the mouse is how directly you can reshape the arrangement: drag a window to make a split, drop it in the middle to make tabs, then adjust the divider. Cross-app tabs and window pinning are part of that same workflow. The combination is what I wanted: automatic arrangement, mouse-driven adjustments, tab groups across apps, and a way to keep a window visible above everything else.

Pricing:Free beta. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no account.

It’s still early software, and behavior can vary between apps. Feedback about windows that don’t resize or arrange properly would be especially useful. Please include your macOS version and the app involved.

Lifetime Almighty with AI: a launcher for 107 Mac tweaks + giveaway

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey friends, I make Almighty.

I've posted Almighty here before. This one is a fresh intro, plus the biggest update since my last post.

  1. The problem

A lot of what I want from my Mac sits behind a defaults command, a Finder option three menus deep, or a one-off website for converting a video to GIF.

Almighty puts those in one native app plus many more re-implemented tweaks. There are 107 of them now.

  1. What Almighty does

A few I use most:

- Media: compress images and videos.

- Screen: draw on screen, highlight the cursor and clicks, show keystrokes while recording

- Power: keep the Mac awake with the lid closed, sound an alarm if someone closes the lid or pulls the charger

- Files: find files in a folder by name or text, remove image backgrounds

  1. What makes it different

Tweaks with options don't open a settings window. They open in a panel under the notch, right where you are, and you can drop files straight onto it. Drag a screen recording up to the notch, pick GIF, and the converted file lands next to the original. There are 8 themes for the panel if you want it to look a bit nicer.

  1. What's new

- Launcher: I was planning to submit Almighty's actions to Raycast, then figured a launcher built into Almighty would be quicker to reach. Press the shortcut, type, and run any tweak or open an app.

- Zeus: a small AI assistant inside the launcher. Ask him which tweak does what you need, or have him do common jobs himself, like renaming files or compressing media. He asks before running anything on your Mac.

- Claude Code and Codex: connect your subscription and Zeus passes bigger requests to them, so you can do a lot more from the same chat.

- Convert Media and Draw on Screen, both new tweaks.

  1. Pricing

Free to download, with a trial for the Pro features. Pro is $14.99. Almighty is also on Setapp.

  1. Giveaway: 20 free lifetime licenses

To thank this sub, I'm giving away 20 lifetime licenses for the direct download Mac version. To enter, comment with anything you'd change in Almighty. Critical feedback counts as much as praise, and you don't need to own the app.

In 3 days I'll pick 20 comments at random, post the winners in an edit, and DM each a code.

Lifetime [MAS]Ā SessionDock now lets you send mixes for feedback and get timestamped notes back in your project library

Hey r/macapps, I’m the solo developer behind SessionDock. I previously shared the Mac/iPhone sync update here. This update connects another part of the process: sending your music to someone else and getting useful feedback back.

You can now share an Album or Collection as a private, encrypted link. Someone opens it in their browser, listens and leaves timestamped comments. Those comments sync back into the matching project’s Waveform Notes in SessionDock. They don’t need an app or account.

The problem:

You send a few mixes to a bandmate, collaborator or client. Feedback comes back across texts and emails: ā€œthe bass gets loud around the second chorusā€ or ā€œI liked the other version better.ā€

Then you have to find the right mix, work out the timestamp and copy the comments somewhere you’ll remember to check when you open the project.

I wanted to remove that extra work.

What SessionDock does:

SessionDock turns the DAW projects scattered across your drives into a searchable music library. You can hear a project’s bounce, read its notes and open it in its DAW without launching projects one by one just to remember what they are.

It works across Logic Pro, Ableton Live, FL Studio, Pro Tools, REAPER, Cubase and more. Your project files stay where you saved them.

Sharing extends that library to the people you want feedback from:

  • Send an Album or Collection through one private, encrypted link
  • Let recipients listen and leave timestamped feedback in their browser
  • Read their comments alongside the matching project in SessionDock
  • Jump directly to the relevant moment on the waveform
  • Password-protect links and manage them from the desktop app

What’s new:

The useful part is that waveform notes sync both ways. A collaborator’s feedback comes into SessionDock, and changes to your desktop notes reach the shared link without sending it again.

For example, someone leaves ā€œbring the vocal up hereā€ at 1:24. When you sit down to work, that note is attached to the matching Session and timestamp. You can hear the section, read the feedback and open the DAW project from the same library.

If the same note is edited in both places before syncing, both versions are kept for review.

Comparison:

Frame.io also offers browser-based audio review and timestamped comments, with a broader set of media-review tools.

SessionDock’s advantage for a music-production workflow is that sharing starts from your existing project library and feedback returns to it. Your DAW project, mix preview and review notes stay connected, which saves copying comments between a review service and your project organizer.

Pricing:

SessionDock’s core library is free. Pro includes a base sharing allowance, so the additional Share subscription is optional.

  • SessionDock Pro:Ā $39.99 USD once for the direct-download version, covering your own Macs and PCs.
  • SessionDock Share:Ā $4.99/month or $39.99/year on the US App Store, requires Pro.

Share adds 100 GB of hosted storage, up to 100 active shares, a choice of 7-, 30- or 90-day expiration for new links, and removes SessionDock branding from the player page. Plans include monthly listening and feedback traffic allowances.

Pro remains a one-time software purchase. Share pays for additional hosted capacity. Regional App Store pricing and taxes may vary.

Website and free download:
https://sessiondock.com/

Mac App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sessiondock/id6753728022

I built SessionDock for my own unfinished music, and I’m interested in how other producers handle this. When you send someone a mix, where does their feedback usually end up?

Lifetime Tomatino: a menu bar Pomodoro timer that switches your Focus mode and your music, now in ten languages - $7.99

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Problem

I have never been able to concentrate on one thing for long, and Pomodoro was the first thing that helped, because it takes the decision away from me. But starting a session always cost me two more steps: turn on a Focus mode so nothing interrupts, and start the music I concentrate to. Two at the beginning, two at the end, and each one a moment where I could drift off instead. The timer was never the part that failed.

Tomatino does those two things itself. A session turns on a Focus mode and starts your music; the break turns both off, and the music resumes instead of starting the playlist over.

  • Menu bar only, no Dock icon, no window in the way.
  • Focus runs through two Shortcuts, because macOS has no public API for it. The app ships both and adds them with one click.
  • Music from an Apple Music playlist, a Spotify playlist, or a folder that Tomatino plays itself. The folder source needs no other app, no permission, and works offline.
  • Pauses when the Mac sleeps or the screen locks. Breaks keep running, because a break away from the desk is still a break.
  • Optional global shortcut, sound and notification at the end of a phase, launch at login.
  • Ten languages, following your system language: English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

New in 2.4

The lengths are yours now. Work runs anywhere from 5 to 90 minutes, the short break from 1 to 15 and the long one from 5 to 60, each with a stepper and a field in the Timer tab. Before, you picked from a short list.

"Start Tomatino" and "Pause Tomatino" work from Spotlight, the Shortcuts app and Siri. In Spotlight and Shortcuts the start can take a work length, which then becomes your setting. The sounds also carry the names they have in System Settings now, and the Music tab tells you when the playlist you picked is no longer in your library.

Comparison

  • TomatoBar is the closest thing and a good app: a free, open source menu bar Pomodoro timer, also on the App Store. It times your sessions and stops there. Tomatino is built around the two things that happen next to the timer, Focus and music, and does both from inside the sandbox.
  • The paid timers such as Session or Be Focused are ahead on tracking and reporting your sessions. Tomatino tracks nothing and has no account. It spends its effort on the two side effects around the session instead.

Pricing

One purchase, $7.99, on the App Store. No subscription, no in-app purchases, no ads. The app has no running costs, so there is nothing to subscribe to, and the one purchase covers Mac, iPhone and iPad: one entry in the store, one price, and buying it on one of them gives you the others. On iPhone and iPad the phase counts down on the lock screen as a Live Activity instead, because iOS gives an app no way to switch Focus or drive Spotify.

Requires macOS 26 on Apple silicon, or iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.

Who and what data

I wrote it. I am Missaq Ataschi, a design engineer from Switzerland, and the only person on this app. Nothing leaves your devices: no analytics, no crash reporting, no account, and no network connection at all. Settings sync through your own iCloud, updates come through the App Store, and the privacy policy says the same thing in more words: https://tomatino.app/privacy

Ask me anything. If it does not work for you, Apple refunds it, and you have lost at most 25 minutes.

Lifetime I built HushNotes: sticky notes that stay on top of every Mac app, but out of screen shares

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Problem

I spend a lot of time in meetings, and I often need notes, phone numbers, addresses, or bits of text handy while I'm working. But notes in another app mean switching windows, and floating notes can end up visible when I share my screen.

So I built HushNotes: small notes that stay on top of your Mac apps, stay out of screen shares, and let you capture selected text from any app with a keyboard shortcut.

The video shows the whole idea in under a minute.

  • Save text from any app. Select it, press āŒ„ā‡§Space, and it drops into your note.
  • One window, many notes. āŒ„ā‡§N adds a page, and you swipe between them. Checklists and bold just work, because it's Markdown.
  • Copy it back out wherever you need it. The note floats over every app, full-screen ones too.
  • Out of your screen shares by default, using macOS's own window setting. Tested in Google Meet and Zoom in the browser.
  • iCloud sync between your Macs if you want it, and Dark mode that follows your Mac.
  • Optional extras. Lock a note with Touch ID, or connect Claude Code, Codex or Cursor over MCP. Locked notes stay hidden from them.

Comparison

  • Apple Notes is free and syncs to your iPhone, and Quick Note stays on top while it's open. But your notes show up in screen shares, the main app is a normal window you have to switch to, and grabbing a selection takes a right-click in Safari.
  • Bear is a beautiful Markdown editor that syncs to your iPhone on Pro. It doesn't stay out of screen shares.
  • Oculta also keeps notes out of screen shares (on Pro). It doesn't document taking text from other apps, and it doesn't sync.

Pricing

$9.99 once, no subscription, lifetime updates included.

macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Also on Homebrew with
brew install --cask geargit/tap/hushnotes

hushnotes.app

Changelog

Five releases since July, and every update installs from inside the app.

  • 1.1.3 (12 Oct). Dark mode that follows your Mac. Each note keeps its own undo history when you swipe between notes. A second AI tool now waits its turn for approval instead of being turned away.
  • 1.1.2 (7 Oct). A recovery key for locked notes, so they open on a new Mac. Your licence keeps working when a network blocks the check.
  • 1.1.1 (4 Oct). Updates inside the app, with what changed shown before anything installs. Your shortcuts are one click away in the Shelf.
  • 1.1 (17 Aug). New default shortcuts āŒ„ā‡§N and āŒ„ā‡§H, so ⌄N and ⌄H type Ʊ and Ė™ again. ⌘F searches inside the note. Spell check is on.
  • 1.0 (25 Jul). First release.

Transparency

  • I'm Somanshu, building HushNotes on my own. You can find me on X
  • The app is signed and notarised.
  • Contact at [support@hushnotes.app](mailto:support@hushnotes.app)
  • Privacy policy and Terms
  • Release notes for every version at hushnotes.app/releases
  • Payments by Dodo Payments, the merchant of record.
  • No analytics or telemetry in the app. Notes live on your Mac. It only goes online to check for updates and your licence, plus iCloud if you turn sync on.

Let me know what you think.

Lifetime Network utility with 20 tools in one app, 13 are free. Netutilus - AppStore

Thumbnail
gallery
51 Upvotes

Hi,

Posted Netutilus last month, thank you all for the support and suggestions, and here is what has changed.

Problem

Ping, traceroute, whois and dig all exist in the terminal. What I actually wanted was history: which device showed up on my home network while I was out, when exactly a host went down overnight, a heads-up that a cert expires next week. One-shot tools can't tell you that, and I didn't want to run a monitoring server for a home LAN.

What was changed:

Ā  - Speed Test now runs 4 parallel streams, counts upload only once the server confirms it, measures latency on idle connections and gives a bufferbloat grade

Ā  - Menu bar item with public IP, country, ISP, VPN on/off with an IPv4/IPv6 leak check, and a log

Ā  - iperf3 client- save your own iperf3 servers and test against them with one click, TCP or UDP, with history

- Port Scan detects services and versions from banners, and has an optional UDP scan

- MTR keeps a history with loss heatmap, outage log

- Uptime Monitor with ICMP checks, HTTP checks that accept self-signed certs (NAS, Proxmox, UniFi), status code/regex conditions, custom headers (stored in Keychain), and a PDF uptime report

- It pauses monitoring on a hotspot or metered connection, so your history doesn't fill up with fake outages

- Internet Check shows where the connection actually breaks Mac -> router > internet -> DNS

- LAN Scanner - "Check Services" for a single device, right-click to SSH / Screen Sharing / add to Uptime Monitor, configurable columns. MAC addresses come via mDNS/NetBIOS/SNMP. Sorry, AppStore App.

- Wi-Fi Networks - vendor and model for almost every nearby AP, Wi-Fi standard, max rate, channel load, 802.11k/v/r

- Whois for IPs and AS numbers, dig-style DNS records, SSL explains why a chain isn't trusted

Free features:

- Internet Check, Ping, Traceroute, Speed Test

- DNS Lookup, DNS Propagation, Whois, GeoIP

- Port Scan, SSL Certificate, Subnet Calculator

- Path Check, Network Monitor

- Menu bar IP/VPN monitor

Pro features:

- LAN Scanner - finds devices on your network with name, vendor, model, MAC and open ports

- Network Guard - notifies you when a new device joins your network

- Uptime Monitor - scheduled checks for hosts/services, downtime alerts, latency thresholds, SSL expiry warnings, a year of history and PDF reports

- iperf3 client with saved servers

- Speed Test history, scheduled runs

- Wi-Fi Analyzer and Wi-Fi Networks - live signal, neighbour scan, channel recommendation

- MTR & Visual Traceroute

Comparison

Ā  Neo Network Utility and WhatRoute are still great free picks for quick manual checks, and nmap is still the tool for heavy scans. Netutilus puts them in one window and keeps watching from the menu bar after you close it- a new device on your Wi-Fi, a host that went down, packet loss.

Pricing

13 tools free. Pro is a one-time lifetime $17.99. With this link 40% off in AppStore. Prices may vary by region, if the price is significantly higher, feel free to write here or send me a DM, and I’ll try to provide a reedem code.

Lifetime Trellis 2.3, one month later: panes you arrange by hand, a terminal inside any folder, and a free companion for what the sandbox will not allow

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

A month ago I posted Trellis here for the first time. Thanks for the feedback, the bug reports and the feature requests, several of them are in the app now.

Finder shows one folder at a time. As soon as a task touches two or three of them, sorting downloads, moving a camera card into projects, checking a backup against the original, you switch windows and keep the path in your head. Folder sizes take half a minute to count, and an unplugged drive cannot be searched at all.

Trellis opens every folder as a pane on a canvas, joined by a line to the one it came from, so nothing you opened disappears behind a tab. Moving files is a drag across the canvas. Comparing two folders is putting them side by side. A search result is a pane of its own. And a local index remembers sizes, names and previews, also of drives that sit in a drawer.

What is new since the first post

Canvas

• A new canvas engine: zooming, pinching, swiping and dragging stay smooth with dozens of panes open • Arrange by hand, the way MindNode does it. Only panes you drag yourself stay where you put them, everything else keeps lining up behind its parent. A small hand marks what you placed, one click arranges everything again • Infinite canvas, grab it with the space bar or a mouse button, zoom around the pointer with Command and the scroll wheel, Show Everything fits it all in • Workspaces instead of window tabs • Keyboard: type to select as in Finder, Option plus arrows jumps between panes, Backspace closes a pane, Command Return opens a folder as a root of its own. Hold Control to see every shortcut at once • Dots, grid or crosses on the background, font size and column count per pane, and a gallery for everything that has a preview, 3D models and Office documents included

Drives

• Disconnected: a sidebar section for every drive and share Trellis knows but cannot see right now. Browse its catalogue, search it, and Trellis tells you which drive to plug in • A share is the same share whether you connect by name or by IP address, a stick keeps its catalogue under a new mount point, and workspaces, colours and favourites follow along • Right-click a disconnected share to reconnect it. Maker, model, connection and serial number for every drive, even unplugged • Interrupted copies continue where they stopped, and Undo leaves a file alone if it has changed or been replaced since

Everything else

• The whole app in twelve languages, help included
• Intel Macs since 1.1, macOS 15 or later

Trellis Helper, a free companion

Trellis lives in the Mac App Store sandbox, and some things a sandboxed app simply may not do. So there is now Trellis Helper, a small free app outside the store. Install it and Trellis picks it up; every function can be switched off separately, and Trellis works fully without it.

• A terminal inside any folder: Control and backtick opens a shell right in the pane, above or below the list, in that folder's path. That is the video in this post
• SFTP servers as drives, in Trellis and in Finder
• Eject tells you which app still holds a drive, by name • "Show in Finder" from other apps can land in Trellis instead

The Helper needs macOS 27. Download and details:Ā https://stefanramage.de/trellis/helper/

Comparison

Path Finder and ForkLift are the obvious alternatives, and both are excellent. Both are built on Finder's idea: one or two folders in view, everything else behind a tab. Trellis shows any number of folders at once with the route between them drawn, and each pane is a normal scrollable list, so a folder with 87,000 items stays a rectangle with a scrollbar. Its index survives quitting the app, which is what makes sizes, search, comparison and duplicate finding instant, also for drives that are not attached.

Upcoming features in the next release(s)

  • Sync two folders: Mirror, Update or Both directions
  • Backup with Versions(File History) and optional encryption
  • Compare
    • Compare two folders including all subfolders, with colors for only left, only right and different
    • Find identical folders, not just identical files
  • Shelf
    • Collect files from different folders in one place, then move or copy them together
    • The shelf floats at a fixed spot in the window while you move through your folders

Request Req simple graphical interface app to schedule sleep and wake times

Apple made the idiotic decision to remove the GUI functionality to set your sleep/wake/shutdown/restart times in Venture. I want a simple GUI app that does this (I DON'T want to deal with terminal).

I found what I thought was the perfect replacement app called Schedule (http://bmaillard.free.fr/programmer/), unfortunately it doesn't work, it won't remember your settings when you click Apply (I've tried all the troubleshooting).

I know Onyx has this ability but it's inconvenient: takes forever for the program to open and you you have to put in your password every time.

I'm hoping theres a simple program like the above that just works.

Free Updatest joins Workbrew and is now free

Updatest Image

Hey all. Some of you have been here since the Caskly days, giving feedback when it was rough and sending bug reports at 11pm. You’re a big part of why Updatest exists, so you’re hearing this from me first: Updatest is now free, and I’ve joinedĀ Workbrew’s engineering team.

Problem

Updatest keeps the apps on your Mac up to date. The top request lately has been ā€œcan my whole company use this?ā€ At work, the problem is bigger: IT and security teams often can’t see what’s installed across every Mac, let alone keep it current.

I've joinedĀ Workbrew's engineering team to help build exactly that, bringing what I learned building Updatest with me. Workbrew's been chasing that same mission from the company side, so joining forces was the natural move.

Together we've built theĀ Workbrew app. It makes the software catalog for your company real for non-developers, letting organizations deploy, patch, and govern software across every device: Homebrew, npm, Mac apps, browser extensions.

Updatest isn’t going anywhere. It stays available on its own for individuals and families, exactly as it’s always been. Updatest 3.0.0 launches today along side the Updatest Network.

The Updatest app is free, and existing customers can visit https://updatest.app/ for full details on the Updatest Network and what this means if you've purchased Updatest.

Comparison

  • Latest:Ā Latest is free, but it checks fewer update sources and can’t adopt your apps into Homebrew. Updatest checks more sources, can adopt apps into Homebrew for fuller coverage, and updates your Brew packages too. It also adds the Updatest Network (paid), which covers over 36,000 apps at launch.
  • MacUpdater:Ā MacUpdater is winding down and shuts down completely at the end of this year. Updatest supports every update source it can find on your Mac, and the Updatest Network covers over 36,000 apps at launch. Coverage should be comparable, but MacUpdater’s database was curated by hand, so there may be a few apps we miss at first. If you find one, tell me.

Pricing

  • Updatest:Ā Free
  • Updatest Network:Ā $1.99/month or $12.99/year for users who need additional coverage. Existing license keys include the Network at no extra charge for 1 year (Individual) or 2 years (Household) from October 14, 2026.
  • Workbrew Team:Ā Free for unlimited users and devices, no card required.

Happy to answer whatever in the comments. I’ll be around.

Note: We're aware the Homebrew cask hasn't gotten the update yet. It will take some time to show up.

Lifetime Substage: 60% off and faster Finder actions, plus new features!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone! I'm the developer of Substage. Since releasing version 1.0 a few months ago I've been adding features and working particularly hard on speed. I'm now running a 60% discount for anyone who'd like to try it.

What is Substage?

It's a little command bar that attaches to your Finder windows letting you quickly and conveniently perform targeted actions in the context of your files and folders: Select some files, type what you want to do, and Substage uses command-line tools to do it on your Mac, without you needing to remember Terminal syntax.

For example:

  • ā€œjpgā€ to convert selected images
  • ā€œ1080p mp4ā€ to convert a video
  • ā€œextract page 2ā€ to pull a page out of a PDF
  • ā€œextract textā€ to OCR a screenshot or scan
  • ā€œzipā€ to compress selected files
  • ā€œselect all pngā€ to quickly select matching files

There's also an Ideas & Actions panel for browsing and clicking commands, and Rules let you save preferences such as ā€œimages for my website should be 1000px wideā€.

Ugh, another AI wrapper app?

Nope! Here are the main differences:

  • Many common actions don't need AI at all: For example jpg, convert to wav, zip, path and many more are instantaneous using my custom text parser. It's more about UX convenience and speed, with the added intelligence of AI when needed.
  • Not agentic: Codex, Claude etc are about performing complex workflows intelligently. This app is about performing quick single actions.
  • Fast: My focus is quick, individual actions on the files you're already looking at in Finder. I'm aiming for around a second or less of response time for everyday requests. It doesn't always hit that, but I've been putting a lot of work into getting closer.
  • Right there in finder: no switching to a separate chat window or explaining which files you mean. Substage already has the context of your selection.
  • Robust safety model with preview of changes: All generated Terminal commands are pre-simulated, with highly customizable settings for what is allowed to run automatically (e.g. getting file info), and diff-like previews of what actions will be taken.

What's new since 1.0?

  • Faster responses and earlier results: faster default models, less unnecessary AI reasoning, and command output appearing while the final summary is still being prepared.
  • OCR: extract text from screenshots, photos and scans using Tesseract, without an LLM doing the transcription.
  • Better video tools: more reliable joining of clips and lossless trimming.
  • Smarter follow-ups: follow-up requests can now take the actual results of the previous task into account.
  • Better previews before running commands: Substage Predicts understands more complex, multi-step commands and gives clearer information when it can't predict everything.
  • Lots of fixes and polish, including Chinese/Japanese/Korean keyboard input, startup responsiveness and model selection.

Lifetime TabLinker - A Mac-first tab & browser session manager for Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave & Edge (iPhone/iPad too) - Now with Auto-Backup!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

I made TabLinker. It's a browser session manager for Mac (with iPhone/iPad companion apps).

Problem:

I run several browsers side by side, Safari for personal, Chrome for work, Arc for research, and I never close tabs because I don't want to lose something, especially the exact window layout I had going. Eventually each browser is carrying 40+ tabs and my Mac is running hot from all that idle memory. So I made TabLinker: pull every tab from whichever browsers are open into one place, save it as a session, and close everything without losing that layout.

What it does:

- Auto-Backup quietly backs up your open browser windows in the background (every 15, 30, or 60 mins, on app switch, or before sleep) so you can restore closed windows in one click, even the next day

- Imports every open tab across every window from Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera, Opera GX, Dia, Yandex, Wavebox, or Helium in one click, without needing a browser extension for most of them

- Restores a full window, every window at once, or a single tab, and groups a big multi-window import into a "By Window" view so it doesn't turn into one long list

- Suspends tabs you're not using to actually free up memory, while the session stays ready to restore instantly

- Saves whatever tab you're currently on with a single keyboard shortcut (⌃⌄⌘T) or triggers an instant backup (⌃⌄⌘B), and can run entirely from the menu bar with the Dock icon hidden

- Safari extension for quick saves and automatic session saving

- Siri and Shortcuts support: save links, capture your current session, create folders, or open a saved folder hands-free or on a schedule, including an action that saves your session and closes every tab for you

- iCloud sync across Mac, iPhone, and iPad, no account required

Comparison:

Compared with Session Buddy (a Chrome-only extension limited to a single browser) and Tabs Saver for Safari ($17.99/year or $34.99 lifetime for Safari only), TabLinker captures sessions natively across all your installed browsers (Safari, Chrome, Arc, Brave, Edge, etc.) for a flat $17.99 one-time payment. It preserves full multi-window structures, includes native iPhone/iPad sync via iCloud, and has zero subscriptions.

Pricing:

TabLinker is available for a one-time purchase of $17.99 with Universal Purchase. Buy it once on Mac and get the full premium version on iPhone and iPad too. Everything runs on-device and through your own iCloud. No account, no ads, and no server I control that sees your tabs.

Recent updates:

Auto-Backup system (quietly backs up open browser windows every 15, 30, or 60 mins, on app switch, or before sleep), Backups tab in sidebar to restore windows or copy links, ⌃⌄⌘B keyboard shortcut to back up right away from full-screen browsers, and automatic skipping of Incognito windows.

Available on the Mac App Store: TabLinker: Tabs Manager

About Me:
I'm developer of the app, you can reach out to me throughĀ XĀ or ask me anything right here in the comments!

EDIT: Big thanks to everyone who downloaded and bought TabLinker! Your support means a lot to an indie dev. If you have any feature requests, feel free to send me a DM or use the Feature Request button in App Settings!
