Discussion Whats is a movie/special/episode of Lupin III that you consider to be Underrated or like more than most in the fanbase?
We are NOT talking about installments like Castle of Cagliostro or Mystery of Mamo, those are more or less universally beloved in the fanbase.
Its more movies/shows where you feel are overlooked or maybe are even disliked by most, but you actually like them and therefore you find them underrated by the community.
My personal example is Bye Bye Lady Liberty (1989), the 1st TV special.
Really like the animation, the premise of stealing the Statue of Liberty, the Postcard Memories shots, the usage of the Main 5 I think is overall good, and enjoyed the new characters like Michael and Isabel.
However, there are clearly flaws, and I understand why this entry is not like super popular, the 3rd Act is a mess after the death of Mason Number 1, with Jimmy not being enough of a compelling villain at the end. Also the plot tries to mix technology with supernatural magic in a very confusing and not well explained way. Still, I really enjoy this entry and its in my personal Top 10 movies of Lupin.
What is your entry?

Discussion New Release Castle of Cagliostro question
Can't find the answer on my own, and I dont know how many people here will know, but its better to ask than not.
How are the subtitles? I love castle of cagliostro, but the dub and subtitles in the release we've had for a while (I assume its disney because their name is on it) ruin parts of it. There are moments of beautiful scenery and revelations for you to sit in and enjoy, but the dub and subtitles seemed to try and fill that empty space by either just explaining the plot or explaining Lupin's plan, something that doesnt exist in the japanese dub. Does anybody know if they changed that aspect for this new release?

NSFW Lupin Fanart Charity Zine NSFW
galleryHi I'm Tsushi! I doubt this will appeal to most of you, but just in case, I wanted to share the preorder link for the charity fanart zine I organized, themed around AUs of the Lupin gang. We have a large range, fanfic, comics, and standalone art pieces including a college AU, time travel, cowboys, mermaids, wolves, and more! This is my 4th Lupin charity zine and I really love bringing together artists to raise money for a cause.
I worked with just under 20 other artists to put this together to raise money for a local transgender organization called GR Trans Foundation that helps trans people with paperwork, travel expense, scholarships and a lot more. Preorders close on October 20th, and should be shipped out around mid November. This is just a very rough photoshop mock up, no AI involved whatsoever in the project. But honestly, even if this isn't your thing, I would be thrilled for any of you to donated to GR Trans Foundation directly. Been a very hard year to be a trans organization helping keep the community afloat.

Merchandise Objective Complete - Complete Bandai Namco Koike-Verse Lupin The 3rd set
galleryWow. These figures are great! Great sculpts, beautiful matte finish and almost 11" tall.
You can get the set for fairly cheap on a lot of Japanese proxy sites (like under $100 easy) but the shipping, because of the size, wasn't cheap. Had to pay that new tax, too.
I'll post the entire set soon!

Misc Seven Golden Men (1965)
I watched this Italian heist film and according to Wikipedia it may have influenced Monkey Punch in creating Lupin III. (Or influenced the anime?)
It doesn't have Lupin like pacing, but it has a mastermind, a treacherous femme fatale, and a crew robbing a bank. They pretend to be workers but getting the gold out involves a chute and a conveyor belt. Once they get the gold there are SEVERAL betrayals before the end.
It's on Tubi right now with an English dub FWIW.
I legitimately enjoyed this even though I have old fashioned movie tastes. It was interesting to wonder if MP saw this film!

Discussion Part 6 Holmes Arc Lupin was built differently (Essay)
Weāve all seen Part 6 by now⦠and we all give him that side eyešš
The plot was a bit disjointed, the animation was all over the place, and even though itās personally one of my favorite parts, I can definitely see why a lot of people feel iffy about it.
One of the things you can easily tell too is that Lupin is not the same. Compared to part five, heās a lot more reserved, dialed down, and just seems like a shell of his former self.
What if I told you though that all of that was deliberate?? probably wouldnāt make it good LMAO, but it definitely is an interesting topic.
Here are things that the directors specifically did to make Lupin feel different in Part 6:
1. Mystery filled Story
The websiteās own INTRODUCTION page states the first cour is āthe orthodox yet innovative, mystery-filled storyā. Also, the 50 Years Of Lupin book describes the plots as āa series of crimes, conspiracies, and mysteries harkening back to
the classic detective novels that gave birth to characters like Arsene
Lupin and his law-abiding counterpart, Sherlock Holmes.ā
They were deliberately trying to get that hard boiled old school detective feel. Not saying they did a good job, butš this is definitely going to tie into how they portray Lupin.
2. āā¦without a loose sideā
Series composer Takahiro Åkura directly described the tone he aimed for in the Mystery cour: āThis time, Lupin is portrayed, so to speak, as more of a hero ā a man without much of a ālooseā side⦠heās mysterious, with a bit of shadow, a somewhat dark imageā.
Bro thinks heās Shadow the Hedgehog šš
Heās not his normal pluck self here, heās moving like heās deliberately protecting himself. You can kind of see this too, because in the first half of part six, everything he does seems controlled. Like, he is calculating how to interact with people. Iām not saying heās being fake, but there is definitely maintenance going on under his personality and itās pretty easy to tell.
3. Big Brain
Åkura described his goal as portraying Lupin winning through intellect rather than physical action, which is what he does anyway lol but he wanted to make it more realistic here.
4. Even the VA smelled something was upā¦
Kanichi Kurita, directly compared Part 6ās Lupin to earlier eras and started spitting factsš¤£
āItās a somewhat deeper, more adult Lupin III⦠this time itās a bit different again [from the dark Lupin of The Woman Called Fujiko Mine or the breezy Friday-night-movie Lupin]. Heās more adult, not carefree ā thereās death at the root of him, and heās someone whoās been carrying something the whole timeā.
Straight from the horses mouth. Isnāt that interestingā¦
5. His friends arenāt even safeš¢
Back on the Åkura train, he even said that this time, heās keeping secrets from his friends??
āUnlike the usual Lupin who bumbles around chasing treasure, even Jigen and Goemon donāt know everything ā Lupin is controlling and manipulating the whole affair⦠in that sense, itās a bit different from the Lupin image weāve had until nowā
This says a lot. First of all, he describes other versions of the character as ābumbling around for treasureā which is kind of interesting lol but he also paints a picture of somebody who is always ahead of the game.
Heās not the character that we can relate to because heās just as shocked as we are, no this time he knows exactly whatās going on.
Conclusion
Gang was out here scheming𤣠a lot of people were picking up on something that was deliberate. This Lupin was designed to be a threat. They were going intentionally in a different direction than part five was.
Honestly, this probably is the closest weād ever get to a realistic Lupin.
Think about it. A real thief for constantly have to examine his surroundings, his friends canāt always know whatās going on out of fear of betrayal, he would move like heās guarding secrets, and even his personality would feel maintained.
Let me know what you guys think! Do you like this direction? Do you wish they would stay with the goofy Lupin?

Discussion Queerness (or lack of ) in Lupin iii and how it makes me feel in the community š¤·
UPDATE:: I see that ppl seem to have brought up more modern examples, that's cool that it seems to get better I hope? That being said ..it's still important to me that even main characters can safely be seen this way. I think I just keep finding myself in negative spaces while trying to find positive content. I'm a fairly new fan it's been a year or so now , but I'm mostly a fan of the older parts, which mostly do not have queer characters that I know of
Guys I do not expect older shows to "Conform to my fantasies." What the hell. I was just talking about it in a "DARN I WISH WE COULD EXIST IN OLDER MEDIA" way . WHAT.
Before anyone gets upset or debates anything, I just want to say first off.
I'm not into debates, I think they're pointless in the cannon vs headcannon gay stuff. All these discussions do is aggressively disclude queer people from being in places in the end and not even worth my time.
I have heard and seen over and over again people fighting over whether jigen or lupin are LGBT or straight. The unfortunate truth is that no one is gay in the series, and if they were it would be treated as hateful. What people that aren't queer don't seem to understand is that whether the original source material confirms our thoughts is pointless.
Writers, companies, franchisees (or most people it seems.) do not want us to exist, it's just a fact.
Cannon is not the point, it's what people interpret from it , is. Just like any other art form.
I've been looking through these debates and posts for quite a while now , and I find reading any side of it genuinely sickening and anxiety inducing because both sides are so defensive.
Personally I think jigen is a survivor and gay coded, and that's important to me. It's something I really relate to. But I cannot claim he is queer or anything and that keeps me up at night to be honest. To know that I technically will never be "allowed" to say this character is this way. It does hurt bad. But technically I really can't.
With all of that in mind, people being defensive that they're not and never could be gay bothers me more. As you are just kicking out anyone that relates to a character in their own way.
Representation is so important, but they will never purposefully give it to us, and I feel like that is something that too many people will never understand.
Luckily I don't really associate myself with fandom spaces anymore, but this one hurt for me, I don't feel welcome even though all I did was love a show and I can't even really find anyone like me in this to speak to.
At least this is a reason why I write alot of my own stories with inspired characters , since I am not welcome in this space. I really worry if I ever will.
It's making it hard for me to enjoy, just knowing this. I wish it was easy just to enjoy a character how I would like with hearing all of this. Shaking my head . Why does queerness have to be a debate oh no he likes men. Ugh.
It just is what it is. Why even limit lupin to just women either, or anyone who cares š7.
Sorry if this worded like garbage, I'm not the best at organizing my speaking.

Discussion Future of Lupin the Third
galleryWith the passing of Yuji Ohno, the funal chapter of Takeshi Koike's film series has finally come to pass and the voice of Fujiko from part 1 passed away, 2026 has been a bittersweet year for the Lupin franchise.
I am honestly curious and worried about the series moving forward. Yuji Ohno is one of the best composers in the world and he will be hard to replace. He was a beloved member of the Lupin the Third community and the 6th member of the Lupin troupe from part 2. With his death, he joins Yamada Yasuo, Goro Naya, Mario Inoue, Kiyoshi Kobayashi and Eiko Masuyama in heaven, and bringing the classic era of Lupin to an end. We also lost Yukiko Nikaido who voice Fujiko in the original Lupin the Third anime and with her passing, the original line up is official gone. While she voice her once, I think she was good as Fujiko and doesn't get enough credit.
Finding a new composer will not be easy. Simply put, the anime won't be the same with the iconic compositions of Yuji Ohno.
And speaking of the anime, we still have not heard any confirmation of part 7 or anymore Lupin specials or movies, which isn't too surprising. We could get news of a new Lupin anime special but who knows how it will be received. The series has gotten a bit of a renaissance in recent years but now the future is looking a little uncertain. Part 6 was mixed and the last crossover was meh. The reception of the last 2 Koike anime projects was pretty good from what I've heard but it looks like his time with the franchise is over for the time being.
So with all that said, what to do think will become of the Lupin series moving forward?

Discussion Immortal Bloodline Question
So, I've been researching the franchise for a long while and the Immortal Bloodline has always stumped me for one massive reason. The ending, specifically the part where Mamo randomly pulls out a 4D-Drive Engine which is apparently Dr. Mullhert's new theory. However I have never seen any mention of either of those two things in the series nor have I ever found any trace of this in real world history. So if anyone can figure out what in the 9 hells this is I'd greatly appreciate it. (Assuming Koike didnt actually pull it out of non-existence)

galleryI started making homemade VHS versions of the tv specials. I used artwork and blurbs from various other releases and put it all together on photoshop, along with the tape stickers. I printed it all out at my local print shop and then bought some blank tapes and library VHS cases. Recorded the tapes on my VCR using the blu ray releases. Hoping to do them all eventually
