Drew Doughty shared a letter that he wrote to Wayne Gretzky when he was 5

But seriously this is so sweet. I wonder if he ever got an autograph from Gretzky or anything. I also wonder if he ever brought it up kinda in passing or if he just got this letter from his mom or something recently and never even remembered it to bring I up before lol

Drew has his faults. His love for this team isn't one of them. Kind of crazy that we're reading a letter from one HOFer to another who ended up playing for the same team. It really puts in perspective that Doughty becoming a King is a childhood dream come true for him. I still love that gappy-toothed bastard no matter how much he drives me nuts.

Cool childhood memory to share. But why wouldn’t someone have tried to send it to Gretzky?

It looks like a photocopy of a letter to me. Maybe she copied it to save and then sent the actual letter?

That's AI. No way is a 5 year old capable of writing all that, and if they are, they aren't growing up to play hockey.

If he wrote to WG, did he even mail it? If he did, how did he get it back?

For as bad as his play has been the past several years, and as frustrating as it is. you have to remember, Drew Doughty truly, deeply, from the bottom of his heart loves the Kings. Wearing that uniform means so much to him, even if he doesn't always acts in a way that lives up to it. A big reason Drew's sticking around for better or for worse is that he probably just can't countenance the idea of playing in any sweater other than a Kings sweater.
It's why I always have to remind myself when he makes a bunch of boneheaded plays of how much he's done for this franchise, and how much I love him for it. He's the greatest defenseman this franchise has ever had, or ever will have. I still think it's time for him to hang them up, but despite him hanging on for too long, I will still jubilantly celebrate his number 8 being proudly lifted into the rafters, and the unveiling of his statue in front of Staples Center.
I've said my fair share of criticisms of him in the past, almost certainly will say even more in the future. But I will never stop appreciating what he's done for this franchise. Ever.
