Court Square free theatre this weekend & next at Court Square Theater!

Post image
3 Upvotes

This year, we’ve commissioned five playwrights to write five new plays around one big question: What does it mean to rebuild? It's a question of rebirth and revival. Performed back-to-back, making for an unforgettable evening at Court Square Theater.

Oct. 15-24

Thurs-Sat, 8pm

Sun, 3pm

Court Square Theater

44-02 23rd St.

LIC, NY 11101

Free, suggested donation.

RVSP: https://www.theatreeast.org/2026-5x5-drama-series

The series was founded in 2016 to bring great new plays beyond the footlights and into nontraditional spaces like breweries, rooftops, and taverns to provide an immersive and unique audience experience. Beginning in 2021, the series moved into the theater, but the spirit of creating theatre that propels story with minimal production continues. Fulfilling one of the company's core beliefs to make theatre more accessible to all, tickets are available on a suggested donation basis.

Omni Store on Vernon Blvd: Has anyone else had a weird experience with this store??

I’m curious if anyone else has been to this store or knows anything about it.

The first time I went in, I was just trying to buy a drink, but the cashier gave me a really strange vibe, almost like I wasn’t supposed to be there. I brushed it off at the time, but the experience stuck with me, especially because everything seemed significantly overpriced compared to NuLOOK or E&I.

Since then, I’ve noticed a few other things that seem unusual. For example, they have what looks like a bouncer outside who lets people in one at a time to buy something. The whole setup just seems odd to me, especially for a store.

Has anyone else shopped there, had a similar experience, or knows what the deal is with this place? I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing or if other people have noticed the same things.

Queens Plaza Multiple cars with smashed windows in LIC near 41st Ave / 23rd St

Saw at least three cars with smashed windows today around 23rd St and 41st Ave, near Queens Plaza South in Long Island City.

There was shattered glass all over the sidewalk, and some of the cars still had bags and other belongings visibly left inside. Honestly, it almost looks like someone was smashing windows just for fun rather than trying to steal anything.

What’s even more concerning is that this happened right outside residential apartment buildings, where there are security cameras. It’s not even some isolated industrial area or a quiet backstreet.

NYPD officers were already on the scene when I passed by.

Pretty concerning that this can happen right outside people’s homes in such a busy residential area.

Has anyone else noticed similar incidents around LIC lately? Makes me seriously question whether street parking around here is even worth the risk anymore.

Center Blvd. Keep parks clean!

I love Hunters Point Park and the folks who work here do a great job of keeping it clean. Please do your part by taking your trash with you. A group that was here last night left wine GLASSES, wine bottles, a cake, paper plates, etc. People regularly hang out here and many dogs come through this section of the park! Leaving glass on the grass could be dangerous to anyone. A park worker came by to clean this up shortly after I took the picture so it’s all gone by now.

Anywhere LIC Looking for a unique space to host an event in NYC? 🌱

Hi everyone! I wanted to share Sky Farm LIC, a one-acre rooftop farm in Long Island City run by the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, and it’s available for private event rentals!

Up on the roof, you’ll find vegetable and flower fields, views of four of the five boroughs, a 40-foot farm table, several gathering and seating areas, and a wash/pack barn with sinks and refrigeration. Indoors, there’s a bright classroom with big windows that seats 30–45, with a long table, chairs, and a small kitchen. Simple catering is also available through our partners.

Sky Farm is a great fit for:
🌿 Company and team gatherings, from board meetings to kick-offs
🌿 Workshops and networking events
🌿 Culinary and art pop-ups
🌿 Small weddings and private celebrations (up to 50 guests, can discuss if more!)

Even better, events at the farm support free student and community programs, free workshops, and fresh produce we give away to our community each year.

If you’re interested in learning more about the space, rental options, or availability, feel free to comment or send me a message. Happy to share more! Please click on the link below to learn more as well!

Beggar at Vernon subway station

The man in his wheelchair, who can walk just fine, is always begging at rush hours, and always blocking the only flushing bound exit as other one is under maintenance. Any way to raise this issue to the city council?

Edit: just tried 311 but unsure if that works.

Queens Plaza Attacked by woman by Queens Plaza

Hi everyone,

I wanted to see if anyone saw this woman who attacked me or saw the attack. At around 6:05PM today, I was randomly attacked by a woman in front of the spot dessert on the corner of Jackson ave and Queens blvd. I was crossing the street as I had just got off the q60 and I was crossing with a group of other girls. She was staring straight at us or me and comes up directly to me and grabs my hair and starting pulling at my hair as if she wants to yank it. She had a grin like she was mad while she was doing it. I was in shock and just walked away very quickly. I called the police but they never showed up because it’s low priority. I would like to know if anyone saw the incident or had anything like this happen by this woman. She was around 5’3 - 5’4 and wearing a light gray hoodie and sweatpants rolled up to her knees with pink shoes. She was Hispanic and of light medium skin tone and dark hair but had her hood up. I don’t live in LIC but visit quite often and have never had this happen to me. Thanks in advance.
