Housing Question
Im looking to relocate to Long Beach the beginning of next year. What neighborhoods are great for a single 40 guy. Live alone, no drama. My budget is under 2000. Im from Oakland so nothing really scares me, but i prefer to be away from the ratchet drama if i can. Hate loud noises and put my safety first at all times. Any recommendations would be most appreciated!

Community babysitter
Hi all, my side gig fell through and it’s taking me too long to find a new job (I go to school full time), so if anyone needs a babysitter I’d be happy to help! I’m good with kids, have 6 ECE units, I drive. Let me know if you’d like to see my complete resume. Or maybe you don’t have kids? I can do some light housekeeping or even dog walking :)

News Vincent Thomas Bridge closes Nov. 7 for 16 months: detours, the $750M plan and what the ports say
Caltrans will fully close the Vincent Thomas Bridge and State Route 47 on Nov. 7 for 16 months to replace the bridge deck, a roughly $750 million project. Detours are expected to route traffic via the Heim and Gerald Desmond bridges, and the Port of Los Angeles says only about 8% of its truck traffic uses the span. Caltrans expects the bridge to reopen in early 2028.

News Long Beach's speed cameras are live: warnings until Dec. 7, then $50-$500 fines — what to know
Long Beach's automated speed cameras began issuing warnings Oct. 7, and fines of $50 to $500 start Dec. 7, according to the Long Beach Post. The cameras photograph the rear license plate rather than the driver, and the city says citation information won't go to police. About half of ticket revenue is estimated to cover program costs, with the rest earmarked for neighborhood traffic-calming projects.

The Port of Long Beach moved 997,177 container units in September, its busiest month in 115 years, with imports up about 31%, according to trade-press coverage of the port's Oct. 15 briefing. The port's CEO says the Vincent Thomas Bridge closure starting Nov. 7 won't affect operations, and terminals plan extra shifts around it. He also flagged high diesel prices as a pressure on truckers.

Pets Someone Is Misaing This Cat
First post got automoderated because it had a location in the title.
I'm in the parking lot on the Stearns side where the Trader Joe's is.
I am not equipped to capture this little one.
If you know this cat or can come help keep it safe please reply or just come here.
Edit: Owner showed up. Apparently she is an indoor/outdoor cat and comes to that area to hunt mice. Freaked me out because that lot is obviously not always safe for humans let alone cats.

Community LB Dog Surgery Center Recommendations (PLEASE HELP!)
Hey all you LB Dog Lovers--
I have a 13 year old Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier who is the sweetest dog ever and my first dog I have had. He is so special to me, I hear they will live to be 20 years old. He is my baby.
He has a heart murmur and isnt getting any younger. He has recently started developing skin tags which I understand is normal for the aging chihuahuas. He has also developed an abscess/mass on his butt that is now infected. I took him to the vet and we are doing blood work and an ultrasound to get more information but I am pretty sure there will need to be a mass removal surgery. I called Stitches Vet Surgery Center and they said that their mass removals START at $5500. I know they will probably still need to do x-rays or some other line items and I am guessing it will be more than the base cost. We did $500 of blood work and are going to do an ultrasound with a specialist to check his heart murmur before we even approach the idea of surgery and anesthesia. Ultrasound appt is $700. Surgery consultation is $175.
Here is my question: I will do whatever I can for my baby but I sadly do not have $8000 in my bank account. Has anyone had to shop around for surgery or does anyone know of a surgery center that will work with me on payments? I asked Stitches and they do not do payment arrangements but work with Scratch Pay and Care Credit. I was only approved for $2000. I still have tests and consultations to get through before we know the extent of what we will try and do. Currently on antibiotics and then we are going to test for cancer. There is a chance its swollen because of infection and also that the mass could be a benign tumor and may not require surgery. He has a couple nasty skin tags I would like to remove but if theyre not problematic, it would be cosmetic anyway. We took him to a Dog Dermatologist awhile ago and she said the skin tags all looked normal.
Looking for any suggestions on places around Long Beach/Orange County/South Bay. I know it wont be cheap no matter what but just curious if anyone has been in my position and if you were able to find another reputable place with different prices. The surgery might be tricky so my vet recommended a Board-Certified doctor which I am fine with. I know that probably adds more to the cost. I would rather have the peace of mind knowing my boy is in good hands. Maybe just looking for a Board-Certified place that can work with me on payments.
Thank you so much to anyone and everyone in advance for your advice.

Discussion Spider Update
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I wish to formally redress my previous sentiments shared with this group regarding the spider situation. The two cellar spiders I discovered today have since been named Mary (the larger of the two) and Kris (the smaller corner-dweller). Having concluded that I cannot defeat them, I have elected instead to join them. Thus, a new alliance has been forged against our common adversary: the mosquito. Down with the biters and up with the spiders!
