MONTHLY ADVICE MEGATHREAD Ask Us Anything October 2026

Hi All,

This is the megathread for all beginner questions about wearing and coording lolita outfits. We would like to contain beginner questions (or otherwise, questions that don't generate a discussion) to one place.

It's convenient for you: check here first if you have a question, it might already be answered!

It's convenient for us: it makes it easier for mods to keep things clean and fresh and fun around the sub.

It makes it convenient for our veteran lolitas: no one wants to see the same 5 questions in their feed all the time.

We will be closing and redirecting beginner question posts to this thread for now on.

Thanks for your cooperation!

BUT FIRST Check out the previous Ask Us Anything thread, you answer might be answered already: Ask Us Anything: September 2026

MONTHLY HELP FIND MEGATHREAD Help Find This Dress: October 2026

Hello All!

This is a megathread for being able to find specific dresses or items that you see online and don't know where to find them or what their name/brand/print name are!

There has been a large influx of people looking for certain dresses posts and so we are going to congregate them all here for easy of access and to help clean up the subreddit. So from here on out any posts asking for help in finding a dress will be deleted and asked to post in this megathread.

Here you can post either a link from Imgur with the image of the dress or link to a website like Pinterest so the community can help find where the dress can be found.

Happy Hunting!

ADVICE any advice please (body text)

hi so this is my first ‘lolita’ dress and outfit🙏🌸 i know so ita but i rlly need help - i have only a white blouse but i saw people online saying i should always match my blouse with my socks and my dress with my shoes,, but i don’t have any white socks that i could use, only pink ones that sorta match the dress, and even worse so the only frilly pretty shoes i own that match the vibe are black/white😓 i also have some regular pink sneakers with beads on the laces, but i’m not sure what i’m gonna do because i can’t buy anything right now and i was hoping to go out in lolita soon :/ can someone advise me on which of the pairs of shoes to wear, is it better to have shoes that match the frilly vibe or shoes that match the color? if i find pictures of them i’ll put them in the comments

DRAMA Beware of the fake 42lolita store

So I've googled a bit and came across a store that is a mirror page of 42lolita. It looks almost the same and has some sales going on that 42lolita doesn't have. What was my first thought? I have to check if my wishlist items are on sale too! And then I realized wait why would 42 offer a 65% sale? That's ridiculous! Then I looked at the url and realized it's a scam site. Yay me, I didn't fall for it.

So if you see this site close it immediately lolitastore.shop

Looks like it's really new, as it has no ratings on trustpilot https://www.trustpilot.com/review/lolitastore.shop

ADVICE Would I get away with red or pink more

Post image

I feel like red shoes with a red parasol would be super cute with this dress, but it’s so hard getting a red one nowadays (⁎⁍̴̆Ɛ⁍̴̆⁎)
And not to mention it’s such a colour I’m scared it will take away from the pink and greens, my tights are a fading green, and my glasses are also green❤️

DISCUSSION Floor or ankle length??

• Upvotes

I remember back in 2016-18 I saw a few of them in magazines and online when I was first getting into the fashion, but they were mainly gothic Lolita style. I do know they are somewhat popular with the not so popular aristocrat Lolita style, but I would love to know what everyone thinks of them! I quite like them especially with a goth Lolita coord!

As of now, the only stuff i have is this blouse(in black), a dress, a headdress (still making one), black/white socks, and these shoes I got from carousel.

I thought maybe it's still missing something but i don't know what it is, or maybe some things just dont really match so I'm asking for advice.

hihi!! I'm a beginner Lolita and I've purchased the OP on the 2nd slide however I currently don't have any shoes to match it with and these are the closest shoes I have that'll fit the dress imo 😭 I plan on DIYing the shoes though to match the OP better but I'm not really sure how to go about that, I was thinking of using black lace but I just wanted advice on how I could go about fixing the shoes + if i should pair the shoes with black or white stockings ( or even socks I'm not really sure) to make a better coord

DISCUSSION Describe your Lolita 'vibe' or aesthetic inspiration in 10 words or less.

I was just looking at dresses and realized there's probably one phrase that can sum up the Lolita vibe that I adore or gravitate towards - like the style I feel like ME in.

If I had to sum it up, it'd be:

'Late-1800's Successful Victorian Woman Going Places and Doing Things™', or alternatively: 'Fantasy Agatha Christie Character'.

I like the historical look and elements, my main design inspiration is Marie Antoinette, historic court-dresses, or Bernadette Banner-style historical costuming. Sometimes court-like, sometimes more Victorian-metropolitan.

I have a very 'if they could wear it back then, I can wear it now!' kinda outlook. Gloves, lace, waist-coats, etc. It's so refined! Bonus points when a dress has actual historical inspiration!

But I'm curious - for other lolitas, especially those that consider themselves sweet or gothic, based on your wardrobe - how would you describe your Lolita style?

If you were a character in a book or something and you popped up in a dress you own - what's the description looking like? I think fairytale stuff is beautiful but I want to look historically FILTHY RICH.

ADVICE Sewing an SK with blanket fabric

I have an old red and white tartan blanket that I want to reuse for clothes now that I don't use the blanket. At first I was thinking of using it for a sweater but I like the idea of making it an SK because of its pattern. I just don't know if blanket fabric is the bestest idea for an SK or really any Lolita item.. Would it sit wrong or be too hot? I do run cold really easily. If it helps you get a a good idea of the fabric it's a Sherpa blanket that I will be taking the Sherpa layer off of. (The sherpa layer doesn't have the pattern and would definitely be too hot to wear often.)

Just to rapid fire I also have an old taobao hangulang JSK (I think I spelt that Wong but hopefully it's close enough to understand what brand I'm talking about) that has broken many times that Im considering taking apart for fabric (mostly it's lace), is that a good idea or is that an egl crime? 🥲 I dread wearing it because I have to wear it to have a full load of red dresses to do (they bleed dye in the wash)

(I wish I could put this in both the diy and advice flare 😓)

ADVICE I know people here agree that the North West dress/outfit isn't lolita. But are there actual lolita dresses/pieces that have a similar look to this?

Post image

Like a cybergoth, 90s goth/vkei, industrial kind of vibe with many buckles and straps. I know cyber-lolita was a microtrend at one point but I'm looking for specific lolita clothes (maybe even ouji if there is anything) in this specific style.

ADVICE Princess sleeves are way too tight, how do i loosen them?

i'm quite new to lolita, and something i've noticed way too often with blouses/ dresses is that even if the fit is otherwise comfortable, the sleeves are always way too tight (the parts with the rubber band inside as shown in photos) does anyone here have any tips/ tutorials on how to safely switch the rubberband inside to a more loosely fitting one without causing extra damage to the sheer shirt? qwq🙏 thank you in advance

ADVICE Has anyone recently bought from closet child from the US?

hi everyone, I’m making this post because there’s this one dress that I really want to buy but I’m a bit hesitant cause I have never ordered from closet child personally and I want to hear what other people have experienced with them especially since tariffs in the USA have really messed up peoples experiences with buying J fashion from overseas😅

DISCUSSION Signature colors

Do you have a signature color? Is it your favorite color or just one you have a lot of outfits in? Does it make you feel confident and like yourself? Do you have a combination of colors? What about patterns?

My favorite color is pink, but I think my signature colors are light blue and candy apple red. Most of my normie clothes are blue. My glasses and my Lolita coords are red! If I have to choose a bandaid or something I’m asking for blue.
Tell me your signature colors!

REVIEW My first AP just arrived, I love it but im slightly dissapointed.

Post image

I bought this dress second hand and I was super hyped because of hpw hypef AP is within the Lolita community. I've been told how high quality their dresses are and so on but when it arrived I picked up the package, it was light. Weird. I thought it would be more heavy but oh well never mind. I get home and take it out of the package and its beutiful dont get me wrong but the fabric... it... it was basically the same as a 42 lolita dress my mum got me for £75. And to think this dress originally costed way more?

Like when buying it, I knew it was polyester. Duh. But I was expecting a high quality polyester and not a costumy fabric. Idk is this normal with AP?

Also the bust didnt fit me. I wasnt that supprised, just dissapointed. So now I've ordered a chest binder to wear under it and any future lolita dresses.

ADVICE Petticoats: how many?

How many petticoats do you typically use? How many is too much? I have two petticoats and a tutu style one that I triple up on. Are hoop skirts worth it? I want that perfect full skirt look 👀🧁
