Great-Grandfather Born in Lithuania in 1942: Can I Get Citizenship? (repost)
My great-grandfather was 100% Lithuanian but was born in 1942 in a village near Vilnius. Under the USSR, he had to serve compulsory military service in the Kherson Region, Ukraine, occupied by Russia as of today, where he married my Ukrainian great-grandmother and settled.
Thus, my grandfather is half Lithuanian, but in my Mom's Soviet Ukrainian birth certificate (as well as in other documents), he identified as Russian in the "nationality" entry despite having no Russian heritage whatsoever - likely in order to avoid discrimination on ethnic grounds.
Are there any pathways to Lithuanian citizenship open to me given this background? Can I qualify for either citizenship restoration or the Certificate of Lithuanian Origin?
From the Migris website: "A person of Lithuanian origin is a person whose parents or grandparents or one of their parents or grandparents are or were Lithuanians and who considers himself or herself to be Lithuanian and declares this in a written statement." This is a repost because my first post got taken down by Reddit for no reason. It sometimes does that.
