Could my windows Windows disk tamper with my Linux one?

So I have an SSD with Linux installed, and another one with Windows.

I installed Windows today. What I did is that I unplugged the SATA cable of the Linux SSD, and then installed Windows (to make sure it doesn't tamper with the files, just in case). Now I have already debloated windows as much as possible with debloating tools.

Is it safe for me to plug in my Linux SSD again to have dual booting? Have you ever heard of one OS tampering with the other one?

I'm just afraid that Windows will somehow corrupt my Linux drive out of nowhere, considering how buggy winblows can be

This made me curious

Like do you use the terminal 100% or are there some simple commands you are using that makes your life a lot easier?

Can i switch to Linux as a QS

I am a training QS. I used windows since i can remember.
My laptop is 12 years old and its Toshiba that has a i3 processor and 8gb of ram.
Because of the recent updates and the condition of the computer, This thing lags like crazy and i cant even run EXCEL properly. Not to mention the constant background apps that run in this thing that I cant seem to stop how & F***ing Copilot that i uninstalled multiple times yet seem to unfazed by it.

I need application like Plan Swift, AutoCAD, Excell, Word, Revit and more, for my studying and for the QS profession.

Will I be able to switch to Linux,(Which I have heard is way way better from PewDiePie ) and continue my work using these applications.
I can't buy a better computer because I'm not that wealthy.
Also i know this computer cant run Revit anyways but I'm hoping once my courier is set i will be able to buy a better computer and I hope to use Linux if possible.

I didn't know you had to program to use Linux.

I’ve spent over two hours trying to set up a second monitor—something that turns out to be impossible on Linux Mint LMDE for some reason—so I decided to clear my head by customizing the terminal, since that’s what people usually do. Instead, I ran into hundreds of lines of code and tutorials that even the YouTubers themselves don't seem to understand. So, is Linux only for people who know how to program?

Support Is the only way to learn trials n errors?

Honestly i got linux last night and it definitely does feel lighter on my old laptop and feels nicer, but...i have been running into quite a few problems and worse is that none if the ways of fixing such problems I'm accustomed to work on linux, like for example something as simple as extracting an rar file on my kubuntu, the operating systems standard extractor (ark) kept failing n saying i don't have enough space which was false, i thought "oh well I'll just download 7zip from github" got 7zip and couldn't find it in my apps so had to search it up and apparently?? There is no graphical version of it on linux, so i used the terminal to extract my file but I can't always use the terminal yk so apparently there's some file roller smth app that is supposed to do what ark does...but ark is just a dumbass app n wasn't working before, so I'm just frustrated with everything please tell me I'm just dumb and there are easier way to do stuff on it and if so what should i look up (my current way of solving problems is just making gemini do everything...and ion think he's reliable)

VPN for linux

Hi guys!

I live in Iran, and I need a reliable VPN for Linux Mint. I've tried using OpenVPN, but it doesn't work for me, so I'm looking for an alternative.

Note: Internet access in Iran is heavily restricted, and many VPNs don't work here.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a VPN that works well on Linux Mint and can bypass internet restrictions in Iran?

Thanks in advance!

All Linux distros freeze

Hello there! I recently got an unused HP 250 G7 and decided to try Linux for the first time. I'm only encountering one problem, both distributions I've tried freeze after a few minutes. I tried Mint and Debian and they both have the same problem. The only way for me to actually use the OS is to add a little "nomodeset" at the end of some grub configuration line (Sorry for being imprecise, I'm really inexpert). This wouldn't be bad if it wasn't for the fact that I cant really adjust brightness or color, from what I gathered it disables graphic drivers and uses some generic ones.

Is there any way around this or am I stuck with nomodeset? I updated the BIOS and tried many different settings and nothing seems to work.

Thanks in advance!

Support How do I go about installing linux amd replacing windows entirely?

Been using windows 11 and it just keeps getting worse. Like I simply cannot believe that they would fire up my laptop in the middle of the night when it's been shut down. When I ask how to stop windows from auto updating online we get loads of cock suckers saying windows doing that for our safety my fucking ass. A bit of a rant yeah sorry but microsoft should hang in any case how do I switch? Do I need to just change everything including my hardware and whatnot? I am braindead when it cones to tech stuff hehe. I currently use a zbook and I do need to run some demanding stuff can linux handle it? Just any information really if push comes to shove I will watch a full course on linux but it just looks confusing.

Title is pretty self explanatory, but since KDE is switching to Wayland, I'm seeing posts and comments from people who are bothered by this and I don't understand why.

Missing SSD during Linux mint installation

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I need help with my Lenovo ThinkPad E14 Gen 3 AMD Ryzen 7 with 16GB RAM and 1 TB memory. I previously had Linux mint installed on my internal SSD, but after accidentally removing their boot entries from the BIOS boot menu, I could no longer boot into either operating system. I tried selecting NVMe0, but returned me to the boot menu and I tried using NVMe1 but during the installation the internal drive still wasn't seen. I created a bootable Linux Mint Cinnamon USB, which boots successfully, but Linux Mint cannot detect my internal SSD. The BIOS also doesn't show any information about the SSD, and the Linux Mint installer only shows my USB drive. I have tried "lsblk" and "sudo fdisk -l", but I couldn't find the internal drive. I also couldn't find AHCI, RAID, or VMD settings in my BIOS. Since my laptop uses an AMD Ryzen 7 processor, I'm unsure whether the online advice about Intel RST applies. Has anyone experienced this issue or knows how to troubleshoot it? I want to recover my existing files, so I don't want to format the drive or reinstall an operating system until I understand the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Which Distro? rebuild switch-to-nixos

Planning to move away from EndeavourOS (arch based) and try out NixOS.

EndeavourOS is good and I got no complaints about it, but I want the declarative approach.

Any reasons why I shouldn't switch and also good resources to learn are appreciated and any tips or best practices to follow while using NixOS.

Also X11 or Wayland? Cause I find i3 to be really good but in the case of dynamic multi-monitor scenarios, should I go with Wayland?

Make Cloudflare work with All Browsers

If you use Ubuntu with certain browsers, you probably already know the problem: you can't access basic government websites. Cloudflare keeps blocking you, even though these sites should be open to everyone.

I started a petition asking Cloudflare to work with all browsers and systems—not just the popular ones. Millions of Ubuntu users deal with this daily, and it's blocking them from accessing public records, services, and information they're entitled to.

Cloudflare can implement security without locking people out. They have the technical ability to do this. It's about prioritizing inclusivity alongside security.

If this is happening to you too, or if you think government access shouldn't depend on what device you own, consider signing and sharing. Have you run into this problem? What sites are you blocked from accessing?

Which Distro? 10-year-old NVIDIA workstation: which Linux distro will keep it running reliably until October 2028?

Hello.

I've been distro-hopping since the beginning of the year, trying to find a Linux distribution that will keep my 10-year-old HP ZBook 15 G3 running reliably for the next two years.

For the reference, these are the specs of my machine:

CPU: Intel Core i7-6820HQ at 2.7GHz
iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 530
dGPU: NVIDIA Quadro M2000M
Memory: 16 GB
Storage: 256 GB

For the most part, I've managed to get all my hardware working, including my NVIDIA graphics card.

My GPU requires the NVIDIA 580 driver, which I can obtain on almost all the distributions I've tried.

Debian is an exception. The 580 driver isn't available in its Stable repositories. I've also looked into version 550, but that branch is no longer maintained and the available 590 driver is not compatible with my card.

Although I've managed to get my hardware working on most distributions, my main concern is that the NVIDIA 580 driver is already on a legacy support branch.

I'm worried that future kernel updates may eventually introduce compatibility problems, particularly if distributions stop providing the necessary patches to keep the driver working. At that point, the driver might no longer compile against newer kernels.

What I'm looking for is advice from people who have previously dealt with NVIDIA graphics cards requiring legacy drivers.

Which Linux distribution would you reasonably trust to maintain kernel compatibility with legacy NVIDIA drivers until the end of its support lifecycle?

In my case, I'm looking for a distribution that will remain supported until at least October 2028.

Thanks in advance for you advice!
