hardware worth the switch from nvidia to amd?

i've made the swap back to linux (cachyos) a couple of months ago and never went back to windows. with that being said, i do have a 4070 ti and have been thinking recently if its worth the switch to an AMD card since its better compatibility and performance (from what i've heard). i know NVIDIA drivers have been improving throughout time with linux and is in a much better state then before but what do you guys think?

If you can sell your 4070 ti for a good price and find a 9070 XT at a reasonable price, sure.
If not, I would keep the 4070 ti for now.

with the current hardware pricing at the moment? unless you're experiencing system breaking issues related to nvidia, i wouldn't bother.

No def not, I have a 5090 and have experienced very little issues in the past 3-4 months on Arch

My pc does not have sleep issues at all anymore. It spends very good nights

I wouldn’t switch if I were you, but if you do want to switch maybe waiting for the next generation of amd GPUs would be the wisest choice. Unless you feel the need to upgrade due to bad performance in your current games.

life is a little smoother on the amd side and I used to be all in on nvidia.

yes, I did sell my 4070 super to get a 9070XT and is way easier on linux, drivers are already in the kernel and never had an issue, runs cooler than windows and all my game have work so far.

modern NVidia cards are much better supported these days, especially on bleeding edge like cachy (older Nvidia cards are STILL a pain in the ass). on a fresh build i'd get AMD but no reason to swap, especially if it's working fine for you.

Dlss still smokes FSR, im not talking about just standard upscaler, framegen and RR. So I'll take bigger performance loss for increased image quality.

I will not touch anything Nvidia on linux until nouveau/nova/NVK gets good enough to replace the out of tree kernel module. Comparable to amdgpu levels. If your hardware isn't already supported out of the box by the mainline kernel, I won't use it.

I don't think it worth it right now. Everything is so expensive and Nvidia works fine for gaming now.

I think he is looking for “better”

And I'm saying "better" on amd is not worth the price right now. The only amd cards that are appreciably better than a 4070 ti are the 7900xtx and the 9070xt. Minimum 800 dollars for like single digit percent faster? Just not worth it

If you experience issues maybe, but if you don't... why bother?
