Another Successful Don't Fear the Repair

We held another Don't Fear the Repair event last Saturday. We had 12 visitors, bringing in 17 items, of which 8 were successfully repaired! Great Stuff! We also cleaned an old laptop for donation to disadvantaged school children.

Thank you so much to our volunteers for their time and expertise. As always, this only works because of their generosity.

Mechanic recommendations

Just as the title says - I’m looking for any mechanic recommendations around the city. My mothers been going to a certain mechanic based in Roxboro (next to Treaty Plant & Tool Hire, he gets the job done alright but my god he’s expensive.

She has an Audi so obviously any maintenance and repairs would be on the higher side of things, but he seems to just charge a premium no matter what the job is. Most recently she had failed the NCT on a what came across as a small issue, a bulb / light fixture was faulty and needed fixing. After the job was done he gave her the price of €250, she quizzed him on the breakdown of the cost of repairs and he laughed and said “the bulb is expensive”. It wasn’t exactly just replacing of a bulb that needed to be done but the NCT tester had even said it was a small fix and shouldn’t be anything over max €100.

This is just a recent example, any time she brings the car in he just seems to charge her a fortune or goes ahead and fixes things that weren’t agreed on. He did it to me a few years back when I was selling my car, I brought it in to fix my clutch and get it ready for the sale and he fired on and did a load of work to it that I didn’t ask for and didn’t tell me until I went in to pay - “it would have needed to be done eventually”.

Again, I know Audis will always be expensive but he seems to just take the piss every time and I’m getting a bit fed up of it happening as there’s definitely better / more reasonable mechanics out there.

So any suggestions would be massively appreciated folks!

TLDR; current mechanic charges way too much even for small jobs. In need of a new one

We beep for the protesters, right?

Just off the 304A bus there and any strike the bus driver passed on the route he gave them 4 or 5 beeps of the horn. We still do that yeah? Haven’t heard any cars doing it yet. I stand with them 100% also.
Public sector workers deserve more.

Breakfast recommendations

Hi I recently moved to Limerick, around the Castletroy area, I like it so far and I’d love some recommendations for good breakfast and brunch.

I love a proper feed, but I’m struggling to find anywhere that hits the spot. I’ve tried places recommended on Google, but I’ve been disappointed every time so, I’d really appreciate any recommendations for places that are genuinely worth trying.

Thanks

What cafe in Limerick do you think has the best pastries?

Been going on a bit of a cafe crawl the last few weeks around Limerick trying to find where has the best pastries and I have to say Mia’s cafe has the best pastries out of all of them by far so far and the view is pretty nice aswell but I do wish the cafe itself was a bit bigger. Would love to know what others think of where else in town/surrounding area’s have good pastries?

Anyone else think that this is just a massive eyesore to the city centre. It looks like a run down decaying office block. It needs to be demolished!!

Looking for a house for 3 people

Hello everyone!

We are a family of three looking for a house or apartment to rent in Limerick City.

We are looking for a comfortable, safe home where we can settle down and build a stable life together.

We have a stable income and can assure you that we are responsible, respectful and tidy tenants who would take good care of the property and treat it as our own home.

We are open to different locations within Limerick and would be very grateful for any leads, recommendations or information about available accommodation.

If you know of a property available for rent or have any suggestions, please feel free to send me a private message.

Thank you so much for your help and support! ❤️

Crescent Closure for Christmas - Objection Date Pushed Out

I note the date for objections / submissions for the proposed Cresent closure for Christmas has moved out a week to Tuesday 20th. I presume a lot of submissions that didn’t support the closures has led to the Council to push the date out. Nothing suspicious about that.

Anyone know why people's park is closed today?

No signs or explanations to be found outside the park itself. We pay good taxes to access this.

I'm not at all one for bashing the council but this decision was an utter fucking disgrace and a slash to the heart of the cultural centre of Limerick. Sickened to see this going to Clare but I hope Lumen will be appreciated the way they deserve to be there.

Recommendations for an independent SEAI Technical Advisor?

I recently managed to buy a C3 rated semi in Limerick. I'm looking to get some work done to increase the BER. I'm planning on doing cavity wall and attic insulation, as well as getting in solar. The bit I can't decide on is what to do with the old boiler, either convert it to a combi or upgrade to a heat pump. I'm not sure how/where to get the best advise for my house which is why I'm thinking of getting a technical advisor in.

Has anyone used an independent advisor in Limerick or the Mid-West who modelled the full sequence (insulation, then heat pump, then solar) and gave a proper heat loss and radiator assessment? Who, and would you use them again?

I'll get a few installer quotes after the assessment, so I'm mainly trying to avoid paying for a tick-box report. Thanks.

Looking for a recommendation for a structural engineer to have a look at some cracks in walls of my house?

I'm hoping they're cosmetic but would like someone qualified to have a look...

New Chinese chicken supplier?

Friday night is Chinese night and has been for years. Wokking and Zweeton usually but it varies.
Over the last month/6 weeks the quality of the chicken is just consistently appalling! In every establishment. It’s like rubber - tasteless and honestly inedible. I’d consider as to question if it’s actually chicken! And as it’s multiple places I have to question if the ever increasing overhead costs has resulted in a change of supplier of lesser quality throughout the city.

Anyone experience the same? And also if you can recommend another Chinese that’s good in the city/outskirts.

TIA

Hi All,

This is the fifth year we've done it. We previously performed in the Record Room under the Commercial.

If you're a fan of comedy/theatre and are looking for an excuse to get dressed up and go out this Hallowe'en, grab your tickets at the link below. There's also an audience costume competition with a prize for best costume.
