As we hit 20,000 visitors I’ve updated the server rules to make things a little more clear on the community we wish to build! Please feel free to respond to this post with your thoughts but remember rule 1 is always to be respectful to each other!

Used the 2x Lego Insider sale and finally bought it. Looking forward to it. Getting some variety from my usual Star Wars purchases.

So, i have finally got and started building Rivendell, i am only on bag 6 and I am enamoured with the detail and build so far.
It will be on display as my pride and joy in my living room but I've seen they do display cases for the sets. Are these worth getting for the completed sets?
I have a couple of other smaller sets, the biggest being the Simpsons house and find that over time, they are a dust trap.
Whats people's experience with having them with or without a case? And am I missing a trick in cleaning my current sets?

: “Here’s my version of the Mount Doom scene, I was inspired by quite a few models I saw on the internet and I made it with my Barad-dûr figurines and parts from old models… don’t hesitate to give me your feedback, thank you.”

I didn’t quite like the grey Lego on grond as I felt it rather plain and dull looking and didn’t quite capture the dark metal Mordor aesthetic on him that was in the film.
So I decided to try and replace as much of the grey pieces as possible with Lego’s titanium coloured pieces but as you can see some of the pieces Lego haven’t yet made in this colour so I had to make do with a few grey pieces.
Overall tho I like the mixed blend a lot better and thought I’d share it and maybe give others some inspiration.

Sorry if this has been covered before, I tried finding it but couldn't.
Is there an "easy" way to shave about an inch and a half or so off the width of the set? I have an otherwise perfect place to display it, but the opening I have is only 16 inches wide and that's impossible to adjust. I was hoping maybe some of the lava around the side at the bottom would be relatively easy to remove but if anyone who has the set could provide a thought on this I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

I'm a minifig enthusiast and was dissatisfied with some of the choices in the official. So I wanted to share my purist modifications. These are personal preferences so I won't be calling them objectively better, but please let me know what you think.
I was mostly happy with the Gondor soldiers except for the faces which I all thought were a little too boy-faced, so I switched them out to have more facial hair. I also gave them some proper spears. The black hands looked off to me so I swapped the whole torso to the one from Dragonborn paladin which also has some sweet arm print. This left me with 4 leftover torsos.
2 of them are archers and the other 2 some sort of cadet I suppose. I haven't really decided exactly what to do with these.
My least favorite fig was unfortunately Gandalf. Aside from the loss of his old beard/hair combo I wasn't a fan of the tan printing at all. Since I already have (what I believe) the better version from 2013 I decided to give him some grey cloaks that he wears at Edoras which also covers most of the tan details. I wouldn't really call this an improvement to the overall fig, it's just what I did.
Pippin is great, just a bit cheap that they wouldn't give him a Gondor helmet.
Faramir was my most anticipated and he looks fantastic apart from the horrendous hair they gave him. He's not supposed to look like Isaac Newton is he? As you can see his hair is about the same as Boromir, a little wavier perhaps, but mostly the same. Also, why do Lego insists on making the brothers gingers? Also gave him a ranger sword from Rivendell.
Denethor is good, just thought he should have some sort of a cape.
Arwen is interesting. I understand she doesn't really have any remarkable detail to her dress, but to give her arm printing and then leave the dress unprinted looked odd to me. They could have at least given her some thin lines. The dress I used is from Princess Tiana which I think looks better than nothing at all. I was also bothered by the one size fits all hairpiece, so I used old Elrond's hair, which also has the crown going all the way.
Aragorn is obviously really good, but I was sad that they didn't care to give him a full beard. This head from Sirius Black has grown on me, and I think it matches his slightly tired and older appearance in that scene too.

It had so many nice little touches and build techniques. Was interesting throughout and looks magnificent when complete. Very heavy though! A+ on the enjoyment scale!

It's my birthday in 4 weeks and as of about a week ago I have been trying to decide between Rivendell and Barad Dur, because until a couple days ago my budget was $800 AUD. Now, I havea 1000 dollar budget, and I was fighting between the Titanic and Minas Tirith. But, I found a website that is not only selling Minas Tirith with the Grond GWP, but is also available for click and collect. Best lego buying experiences are in person!

Random question but now that we’re getting more details that for sure getting helms deep this coming June, do you think it would just be like set location like Minas Tirith or do you think Helms Deep will actually be a battle? Like one of the most iconic battles ever from the movies /books… I’m really hoping it’s a battle so we get Rohan and orcs-Uruk-Hai…I hope we get at least 20 Mini figures. I’ll even be happy with 15…

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if someone could please post a picture of the bag/cardboard/whatever the capes and banner came in with the Minas Tirith set?
Some months tend to pass when I make a big set like this and I think I've misplaced mine or even threw them out after I got the white cape for Gandalf.
Thanks!

With some of the extra piece, you can bulk the legs up nicely

Hello everyone, here’s my last modifications of My Orthanc MOC. I started from the 2013 set, which I tried to expand and enlarge. I’m open to your feedback.
