Remix I got the Millenium Falcon 75105 set and modified the interior thoroughly. I even added a bathroom!

I was thinking about doing something similar myself, you've done an incredible job! Especially impressed by how you managed to connect the cockpit to the rest of the ship. That and the functioning doors are the kind of attention to detail I'd love to see more of in official sets.

Thank you! The cockpit connection was done this morning. I was just about done with working on everything last night but as I fell asleep I realized how to do it. So the roof of the hallway connects to the walls of the hallway at the end. This allowed me to remove a lot of pieces at the back of the cockpit. The two walls that lead to the cockpit are connected closer to the center so there's a bit of instability there.

Yeah, this is awesome. I really like the hallway to the cockpit. I notice that the pieces seem a bit stretched and loose on the walls in the image showing that hallway--- I wonder if there's a better way to connect it all? You mention that "the two walls that lead to the cockpit are connected closer to the center so there's a bit of instability", interested to know exactly what/where you mean (hard to see exactly).

This is really awesome, though. I especially like the padded walls--- feels just like the MF.

I think the solution would be to drop the bed of the falcon in that segment by 1 stud and then reinforce it via the underbelly so that there is less stress on the plates in the middle. Actually in that image it was just that I hadn't pushed them down all the way after making the connections. They actually push down just fine, but the problem is that so much force is being put in on the L pieces in the cockpit. It's supporting the corner that pops out from the falcon. It's a lot of weight for pieces being attached in a moment connection like that.

But thank you! The padded walls were the most necessary addition IMO.

Ah, ok! Yeah making odd "angled" connections can bring problems. I had a hell of a time with this staircase not wanting to connect correctly. But I finally got it. All the jumper studs are hidden under the turning staircase but turning any one of those stairs a tiny bit just forces all the stairs to pop out of their connections. There's a lot of stress on the parts with the slightest nudge, but when it's just right it seems OK.

Maybe there are some technic/jumper tricks that can be done to make the hallway more stable. But anyway, looks awesome, I'll probably have to modify my falcon now!

So I actually started looking into it in detail to try and prevent more stress. On the folding up ceiling of the corridor to the cockpit I made a modification. On the connection of the wall nearest the loading dock I realized I used a piece that has two connections to the wall. This caused unnecessary stress to the pieces. So I swapped it for a piece with one connection. It got rid of a lot of stress in there.

Awesome! I'll need to order tan and grey tiles soon. I had considered doing a detailed scene representing the inside of the falcon (but not actually inside it), but seeing how yours turned out so nicely I may just do it inside the falcon itself.

The challenge is adding thick enough walls. Is so peculiar but by dividing the space up with walls that are just about 1.2-1.3 steps thick you end up making the falcon feel more spacious than when it was all open. A lot of the space though comes from cutting into that center rotunda. The walls on the front and back sides of the falcon of the rotunda are way to large. Slimming them down makes those hallways have 3 studs of ground tiles and 4.5-5 studs of space at the Minifigures' arm height.

Looks awesome, this was my two seater cockpit mod. http://imgur.com/Irx50Ru

Oh I love that! I might have to imitate it ;p

Could I see the rest? I'm curious how other falcons look.

As a proud owner of the Haynes manual for the Falcon, I took the episode 4 version and redid the inside to more accurately match the blueprints. I'll have to take new pictures sometime. Hint: Lego added a second hyperdrive core.

I would love to see it! I didn't touch the actual engine itself. The only mechanical parts I added were the ones next to the cockpit.

What a piece of junk!

It looks amazing. =)

Looks great! love how it connects to cockpit. You think it's possible to make something so all characters fit in cockpit? I tried but it seems too small

3

u/Django117 Dec 27 '16

Sadly no :( the cockpit is so cramped as it is. I mean I could possibly move the console up by a stud or two. The real problem though is the height of the Minifigures. their heads hit the cone.

2

u/pcnoobie245 Dec 27 '16

That's the exact problem I had. Chewbacca's head was the slightest bit too tall

2

u/Django117 Dec 27 '16

I mean you could try to drop the baseplate for them so they sit in the middle of the cone...

Not talented enough to do it, but i might give it a shot later

Looks awesome. I had just picked up a bunch of pieces to redo the exterior so it removes some of the gaps, etc. Looks like I'll have to make another order later on to do the interior.

Wonderful work.

Looks amazing I'd love to do this with mine, how did you do the floor? Are the flat bricks on top of the old floor, or is it a whole new floor piece?

2

u/Django117 Dec 28 '16

Just the flat tiles on the old floor.

In one EU book I read they referred to a bathroom/toilet as a refresher. The 'fresher for short.

Looks great. I'm planning to do something similar too someday.

The hell? I've owned this set for like, a year, and I had no idea there were secret compartments. I built the damn thing!

It was supposed to be messy.

6

u/Django117 Dec 27 '16

I think though that it was rather poorly organized. There's a difference between messy and a mess.

2

u/AParticularAtheist Dec 28 '16

Exactly. Some builds are just a mess. I really appreciate builds, like this one, that do a good job making something look messy.

Another one I really liked was this police station MOC I found last night: https://youtu.be/Ty3CnE_y6SQ

I agree that the objects in the rooms should be, but it needs walls and rooms still which the original lack.
