Question Viking Village or Medieval Blacksmith?
I've decided to get one of the above sets from the secondary market, but I'm struggling to decide. For people who have one or both, what did you think of the build process and display?

depends a lot on whether it'll sit alone or next to other castle stuff. the blacksmith is one tall building with a full interior so it works as a standalone scene, the viking village spreads wider across a few small buildings and looks best with some shelf width. how much space do you have for it?

I was going to put up floating shelves, so width is easy to come by. I was looking at around 800×500 to fit Rivendell on the top shelf.

The viking village is a more interesting build, and a very attractive set, but I didn't have anything else in the theme to pair it with so it just kind of sat by itself. The interiors are small to the point of being difficult to use.
Blacksmith is better for minifigure scenes, lots of room and storytelling options. But it does not scale well with other Lego sets, except for Bricklink Designer sets like Alchemist Shop and the upcoming sleepy dragon inn
