Best Vet in LS?

Without getting into details, I am fed up with my vet. Who do you recommend? Anywhere to get grooming and vet services at the same time?

I like Strothertowne but they are expensive.

Didn't like Raintree vet clinic at all.

Have heard good things about Colbern Rd Animal Clinic

Love Colbern Rd Animal Clinic - they're very nice independent vet office. Services are affordable and Dr. Neal's cares shines through.

With that said with anything major they haven't been easy to book with (they're only open certain days - and getting appointment spots can be weeks) so I have back up vet services through Green Summit Animal Clinic for anything that may pop up.

My wife worked for Raintree for about 9 months. I'm not going to say much but I will say - stay as far away from them as possible and never leave your animal in their care if you can't be there with it.

Strothertowne got sold to private equity a few years back, they will bill you as high as possible. I left their office because I don’t agree with private equity taking over everything

Unfortunately almost all vet offices are owned by private equity now 😕

I still take my dogs to Strothertowne because their vets and other staff are amazing.

Yeah, the people at Strothertowne are amazing, but I know if I'm going to need something expensive done like a surgery I'm likely going elsewhere.

Interesting, see I have pet insurance for my dog so maybe that has softened the blow.

She also hasn't needed surgery though. But like once they had to keep her overnight and do a barium X-ray series. It was around $500 but again my pet insurance reimbursed me for most of it.

They quoted about $1000 for a teeth cleaning for our cat

A quick search of the KC subreddit here and I found several posts talking about area vets that charge more like $400-$500 for the service.

So Strothertowne is definitely high on the more complicated procedures. I don't think they're unreasonable for basic checkups and vaccinations.

Ahhh yeah I do admit their teeth cleaning prices seem quite high and so I haven't had that done for my dog ever.

You’ll need the new Progressive pet insurance to afford strothertowne.

Lakewood Animal Health Center has treated my dog very well. They're easy to get ahold of and get an appointment booked. When my dog got bit, they got him in the same day when I couldn't get ahold of anyone at either location of the Lees Summit Animal Hospital.

I've always had appts with Dr. Stelzer and she's always treated my dog very well and is great about answering any questions I have.

We see a new doc there, Dr. Davies, and she is fab.

Dr. Davies saved my cat’s life last weekend. She was doing her best to get that Darwin Award after eating the blind cord but was thwarted in the 12th hour 😂

$850 dollars for shots.

Shots through them are expensive. I get my shots during one of the drive thru clinics that Pet Resource Center of Kansas City hosts in Independence for $50.

Not sure how that's possible. My dog went there and got spayed & all of her vax for less than $500.

We like Raintree Animal but my best friend had a bad experience with them.

We also had a very bad experience with them, they abused my cat while he was in boarding. We picked him up and his mouth was severely swollen on one side. They denied everything and said he was fine. We think they may have put a muzzle on him or tried to chew the bars or something. It got infected and he died.

Oh my gosh that's awful! I'm so sorry.

Also had a bad experience with them. Had a new kitten we had just adopted from a shelter. Very obviously had ear mites, was scratching one ear constantly.

We called Raintree and they couldn't get us in for 2+ weeks, said that the cat would be fine(we trusted their opinion, this was our first cat so we believed the experts).

We came in for the appointment after 2 weeks and the vet said we should have been in much sooner, the cat had done permanent damage to its ear, scratching so much for 2 weeks. Our cat is still ok now 5+ years later, but has 1 permanently damaged/droopy ear.

We have been using Dr Laura Williams at Southport Animal Hospital for the last 10 years or so. She's been at 3 different clinics over that time and we follow her wherever she goes.

Chipman Road Animal clinic is who I've used and I've had a good experience. They are still privately owned and I think reasonably priced. They are walk in only - which is great because you never have to wait weeks for an appt. But downside is you never know what your wait time will be in clinic. You can always call them and ask what current wait time is. I've found that Friday afternoons typically aren't busy.

Dr Shotz at Lee’s Summit Animal Clinic by downtown LS.

We are fond of Dr. Brockhaus (sp?) at this location.

Also the new Crown clinic beats the pants off of Blue Pearl for an emergency vet.

They also have regular apps, $60.00 office visit

Lakewood animal health. We’ve been using vet and grooming services for 6 years now for our dog and have had great experiences every time

Lee's Summit Pet Hospital in downtown has been there since 1942, has reasonable prices, and they are open on Saturdays.
