Discussion St.Patricks to Maple Leafs
Just some interesting tidbits in regards to the name change from St.Pats to Maple Leafs. First a brief article describing the new leafs uniform unveiled late in 1926/27, and another how the team had to keep the St.Pats name for the entire season so as to not void the player contracts.
From the book Deceptions and Doublecross: How the NHL Conquered Hockey

Fascinating! Anyone know if the book is worth picking up?

I have that book and it's incredible. Probably the best hockey history book out there. Lords of the Rink would be a close second.

Amazing that they thought simply renaming a team would invalidate all the contracts.Â

I love everything about our name, logo, uniforns, etc. But ngl I've always kinda thought it'd be cool if we were green and white instead of blue and white. Everything else the same. Would have been the only green O6 team and I think they'd look awesome.

Damn that would be cool... but hey, at least the canucks picked up that good colour scheme, it's not going to waste

No I mean like zero blue. The Canucks are blue, green and white. I just mean green and white.

Oh weird, yeah that's surprising there is no team with those colours. Even the Stars have more black than white.Â
I would have thought more teams would want that old, classic mono colour look of the leafs or red wings (well, tampa REALLY liked ours). No mono green, purple or orange kinda surprises me.Â

I would love to see a St.Pats jersey with a retro green maple leaf
