Over the past couple days I have received a spike in reports on Mowrator trying to use an astroturfing campaign by spamming our sub. I don't see everything, so please hit that report button if you come across one, and I will remove it and ban that user.
For the most part, everyone here makes it easy to manage. You generally get along. You help each other out. You call out spam when you see it. Let's keep that up and keep this sub free of bullshit. Thank you for making my job as a mod easy.

I prefer the older push mowers. Thats the days of LAWN-BOY's with 2-stroke motors on aluminum staggered decks. I like em cause their reliability cannot be matched by newer mowers.
Those were also the days of the good ol Briggs & Stratton flathead. Those are the easiest mowers to work on. A 7 year old could tear it apart and put it back together again with no instructions. They are also the most reliable mower engine you will see.
But alas the Environmental Protection Agency brought the era of the Briggs & Stratton flatheads and LAWN-BOY 2-strokes to an end.
Every mower in the pictures I own.

Was mowing today and everything was going fine. Stopped to empty my bag but left engine on. When I started mowing again there was a loud pop when the blades were engaged. Now I am unable to start. The mower is at least 15 years old. I don't know if it's worth looking into a repair at this point or if I should replace it. Only a few more cuts to get through this season.

Need recommendations on a zero turn for my own property. About 3/4 acres of grass, but has a bunch of weird turns and sharp angles that my typical ride on mower is really annoying to use. Doesn’t need to be a large deck since it’s not too big of a lawn. I just want something that has a bagger for leaves and is good quality for a homeowner. Not looking for Ferris level of investment here

Hi everyone.
New homeowner here. I'm looking for a good long lasting mower for our yard. I was about to buy the Toro below but still unsure. I prefer gas self-propelled ones with Max Price around $500.
And also need suggestions for Trimmer/Edgers, I'm new to this and have no idea what else I'm going to need.
Thanks in advance.

I have a 2020 john Deere e130 lawn tractor 724cc Briggs and Stratton model number LBSXS 7242VE I need the shaft/spindle that the governor rides on.
Mine broke apart in the engine and John Deere does not sell it does anybody know of an aftermarket one so I don't have to buy a new crate motor.

Good morning. Turning to here because I don’t know what I’m hearing. There’s a a consistent kinda high pitch noise you can hear when the ending is running (probably hard to hear but worth a shot. Does it regardless of rpm’s or if the blades are engaged or not. Has a Kawasaki FR651V and I e done yearly oil changes and the bagger was just added at the end of last season, I’m sure that doesn’t make a difference. Just wanted to see if I’m overthinking it before I call someone to look at it. Runs great, drives great, and cuts great. Thanks in advance and apologies if it’s a dumb question.

1.LAWN-BOY 2-strokes because you can run them on their side and they dont care. Plus they last forever.
2.The 2010 and before Briggs & Strattons are easy to work on and durable. The newer Briggs & Strattons meanwhile are hard to work on and dont last like the old one do.
I have to say this about push mower engines. THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE THEY USED TO.

My guess is Honda, but what year/type.. looking for a gasket set , i want to take it apart and clean it. it has run a while with the jet loose in the floatbowl.. Had to adjust the valves after fixing that to have it run without choke , so i want to see if there is any damage/carbon build up.

The other day I was cutting my grass and heard something rattling around and I could no longer engage the drive. I took it apart and seen the drive cable spring broke so I bought a new one but I’m unsure where I actually connect it to?

Howdy!
Been lurking and reading here a bit.
I need a riding/zero turn mower for the 2.08 acres I recently purchased for the family.
There are almost no trees/obstructions. Fairly even grade.
As we move, trying to save where I can.
Please let me know your thoughts!
And thanks!
Bonus dog pic.

Went ito cut grass yesterday, put gas in my mower. It stated right up and idled normal. Started cutting with zero issues. About 5min I noticed the mower sounded different like it was losing power. Adjusted the throttle up without any changes to the mower, 15 seconds later it died on me.
* I didn’t hit or run anything over except light grass nothing heavy wet or thick.
Here is what I’ve done so far.
Checked it had fresh gas. (It does, 93 octane)
Checked for blockages in the file lines. (No found)
Blade isn’t stuck it freely spins
Checked the safety switch’s (under the seat and under the mower in the rear)
Unhooked the safety wire coming from the engine to bypass (still won’t start)
Checked for Spark (we have spark)
Checked the magneto (I get 4.65ohms at the 20k setting)
Replaced the carb with a new one
Replaced the fuel filter.
Air filter is clean
We have clean and the appropriate amount of oil.
Tried starting it with starting fluid down the carb form the air filter (won’t start)
I have had this mower for 5 months and this is the 1st time it won’t start on the 1 pull or crank.
Everytime time I try and start the motor is spins over and over and over but won’t catch or start.
What gives?
More than happy to share videos or pictures.
Engines is a Briggs 28M708. 13hp

Sorry I don't have kid sized hands here. Took a couple minutes with the cover off and bench grinder. Now I can see and reach in and fill with ease.

What do you all expect to get out of a mower before you start looking into buying new? I’m talking quality commercial grade, nearly every day usage. Proper preventative maintenance schedule followed. I’m wrapping up my 11th yeah with a Ferris 3200z. It’s nearing 2,000 hours. Concerned about encountering more down days as the hour meter keeps ticking. Thanks!
