I was helping a customer and accidentally i passed over it and it HIT my eye for 1 second. I was so close to it. IM SCARED TO DEATH. is it dangerous?

Looking for a very bright laser measuring tool. Something handheld maybe even pocket worthy.
I do a lot of measurements in day light and my laser can’t get a reading consistently.
Hopefully someone has a great recommendation on a bright laser measuring tool.

Essentially I want to combine photoluminescent paint and map a lazer on a canvas but I do not want to lose the other color and spectrums. My research has shown the 405nm aren't venue safe obviously. The traditional 450nm blue allegedly creates the tracing effect but not as rich. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not necessarily looking for this to be venue safe more an art installation project idea I've had for a few years. I'm new to lasers but understand resolume and video signal flows.

Been using a few of the Tinkerlasers 395nm, 405nm and an OMTech 365nm laser to run some interesting experiments into light scattering and light trapping. So far having some pretty good success.

I just got a new 500W air-cooled handheld laser cleaner. I’ve seen friends use laser cleaning for rust removal, paint stripping, and cleaning metal parts, but I’m also curious about its less common applications.

If you had a laser cleaner in your workshop, what would you use it for? If you’ve already used one, what tasks has it been most useful for?

I’d really like to hear what everyone actually uses it for.

For a project I’m trying to drill very long (12+ inches / 30+ cm), very straight, small diameter (3/32” / 2.5mm) holes through wood. Since the wood has grains and the drill bits are flexible, they tend to wander and I cannot get them to reliably exit where I need them to - they almost always come out 0.5” - 1” (12-25mm) from where I need them to.

Here’s my idea: could I set up a laser to peck at the end of the hole and thus keep my drill straight? I don’t need the laser to burn all the way through, I just need it to help guide the drill bit by charring the bottom of the hole.

I’m thinking I could make a fixture where I can easily alternate between the drill bit and the laser - perhaps I could peck at the bottom of the hole with pulses of the laser to keep the wood from ignition - even if I can only go 1/4” at a time this would solve my problem.

Can anyone suggest a type or model of laser that could work like this?

If I want to build a laser like this myself, what parts do I need to buy? Does anyone know ?

Can a Sanwu Striker 7.5W be used during self-defense, if necessary? Like, if I were attacked by someone, and I just quickly pop my Thorlabs LG3 goggles and then shine the laser straight in the attacker's face?

Ebay seller was a large liquidation auction house and I don't think they knew the value of what they had. They also seem to not really ever sell optical/laser equipment. It was such a good deal I thought I may be getting scammed for a minute or it being a mislabeled direct diode 445nm laser. It's labeled as 50mW but it can run around 100mW for a bit but pushing it that hard will likely degrade the lifespan.

Cameras cannot capture the color but it's a pretty stunning and vibrant ice blue. Even was professionally tested with the paperwork included. Absolutely a ridiculous deal. Main purpose is for optical tweezers setup I've been working on for a while as I was previously using a 80mW direct diode 445nm source.

Basically what the title says.

I intend to buy one of these puppies, but those are not available in Bulgaria, and I'd have to order it online from a EU-based retailer. My only concern is whether Bulgarian customs authorities might attempt to stop and/or seize it. From what I know, there is no law prohibiting a Bulgarian from owning one of these, but importing them might be a murky area, and I have no clue what to do to make absolutely sure, before I sink roughly 500 EUR for one of these.

Anyone around with sufficient knowledge on that matter?

I’m setting up a laser, but struggling with the interlock setup. The laser itself is from CNI (MSL/III-532-50mW), but the datasheet gives no details about the interlock socket. To my eye it looks just like a standard RJ11 socket, but I’ve tried three different RJ11 plugs and every one of them has been too wide. Rough measurement: the plug is almost 10 mm wide, the socket is more like 8 mm.

Is this a special type of socket? Somebody mentioned RJ11 can come on different sizes, but to me a 4 pin RJ11 plug should be standardised! The pitch of the pins is the same, 30 mins filling it down and I’m still struggling… any ideas?

​We're running into a specific display issue on our TRUMPF laser cell.

​When we boot up and start the machine, the secondary screen turns on, but it freezes immediately on the process cycle / time-remaining display.

​The main control panel is fully functional, and we can operate and control the machine normally without issue—it's only this specific timing/process screen that hangs on startup.

​Has anyone encountered this specific startup freeze on a TRUMPF HMI or Beckhoff/GEPRO panel setup? Could it be a communication loss between the IPC and that secondary display frame, or a hanging background service during boot initialization?

​Any insight or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated!
