Tonight I cleaned out the gear bag for the last time

I played this sport for 35 years. Had a blast. Truly a medicine game for me. Then I had a health event and now I can’t play ever again. Ever. Haven’t been able to for several years, but I left the gear bag where it was. Full, on the shelf. Just couldn’t bring myself to clean it out. Finally did it tonight, for the last time. I had a big pile of jerseys from my old teams in there, some I played on almost 30 years ago. I told myself I would only keep the special ones. I got rid of four. Oh well. The old memories linger. One of the saddest things is that the bag didn’t smell anymore. It had been too long. Everything ends. I am grateful for the friends I made and the times I had playing. What a gift I was given. All because my gym teacher showed us a game on a rainy day in middle school. Crazy.

All the best out there, boys. When you hang it up I hope you look back and feel as lucky as I do. Go get ’em.

Can I still get good?

I’m a junior and I really want to start playing lacrosse. I was wondering if I could still get kind of good at it. I feel like it’s too late and I should just stick to doing track and field but i really wanna try something new. Just be honest with me if it’s really to late🤣

Maverik m7 Lacrosse Glove Review | Top String Lacrosse

Maverik Lacrosse just dropped their M7 protective gear line, and the first thing players want to know is: how are the gloves? So we did that review first.

With a few key changes, like the large pad and vent structure on the backhand and a wider side gusset, the M7 lacrosse gloves are much more breathable than the M6 gloves. Additionally, the flexibility right of the wall in-store with the m7 glove is incredible. This just might be the best bang for your buck lacrosse glove going into the 2027 season.

We have those details and more put together in a detailed review of the Maverik m7 Lacrosse Gloves for anyone interested.

Feel free to drop any questions on this post that we can answer for you! Maverik M7 Lacrosse Gloves | Top String Lacrosse

NLL just made a near fatal mistake with media rights.

NLL x Flo is a complete misallocation of distribution rights. Trading TOF reach for short term low-tier SVOD cash guarantees subscriber decay, sponsor churn, and accelerated valuation collapse.

$30+/mo or $150 ARR paywall for a t3 property destroys top-of-funnel. Casual CAC is infinite because no one organically lands on Flo. Kills passive discovery and locks LTV into a siloed user base of diehards. CPMs rely on scale; brands buy reach and cultural relevance, not sub-10k CCU streams behind a paywall.

Let me be blunt- no one buys 10k streams.

I warned about this and modeled it out this with MLL and LSN during one of my PLL analysis: high-margin SVOD pitch led to audience impairment, collapsing ad rates, sponsor flight, and flatlining franchise valuations, forcing a distressed merger into PLL. PLL took market share specifically by using Tier-1 rails to trade short-term yield for TAM expansion.

NLL traded long-term EV for a minor upfront MG. Expect metrics to crater, sponsor write-downs, and severe multiple contraction on future expansion rounds. Total amateur hour.

WLL Jr Champs Training Camp - Houston TX, Dec 19-20

Sharing what I think might be one of the coolest opportunities in the game - WLL pros training the next generation!

Have some friends who attended the first camp in PHI and only had amazing things to say - the pros, players, coaches, and staff are some of the best you could ever hope to learn from. If you're within reach of Houston, this could make a great memory for your daughter, and maybe even the whole family.

The worst kept secret in the lax community looks to be inch closer to reality.

Another power 4 school adds lacrosse west of the Mississippi. Texas get a college team. ACC get their 6th team and their AQ back. New AQ could breathe life into ncaa tournament expansion

Does anyone have experience with the Junior’s Open for boys lacrosse ? My 2029 son was “invited.” The advertisement shows between 70 to 96 college coaches. The price is steep, $1000. TIA

ecd atom ground balls

i dunno if its just me, but i feel that the scoop on the ecd atom head is super thick, making it unnecessarily hard to pick up ground balls.

does anyone else have the same experience?

do you think making it thinner using sandpaper is an option?

Full-pay at a D3 school or MCLA at my state flagship

I am currently being recruited for lax at a great academic D3 school, but it costs around $96k/yr to attend and does not offer merit scholarships. My family is in the band where we don't qualify for need-based aid, but cannot pay that amount without debt and the school's net price calculator shows us paying at or near full price. My state flagship is UT Austin which has a great program for my desired major, but the lacrosse team is only MCLA. Playing college lacrosse is my dream, but I am struggling to decide what to do in this situation. If anyone else has gone through the process and has advice for me, please let me know. Thank you!

Lax programs in SE PA close to MD border

Hello everyone…my son (‘33) has been playing for 6 years now, seems to be getting better (I never played lax), but im a little concerned about some of the teams he plays on. Don’t want to sound or come across as if he’s the next coming of Gary Gait (I’m a diehard Cuse guy), but he is a notch above most of the players. He’s come to me a few times asking if there are more competitive teams out there that he can try out for. Lax world is very new to me. Never played, just had buddies that did so learned from them (or at least tried too lol). I don’t know what’s good and what’s not. I have no clue where to start. To me I just keep telling him to play hard, be a great teammate, keep working on getting better everyday…things will work itself out. I guess the thing that most concerns me is the coaching or lack there of. I don’t know the game very well, but I do know what it’s liked to be coached by great coaches/people. I played d-1 football w some of the best coaches around. I learned so much from them due to them taking their time to teach/explain/go over plays/drills/mistakes/etc. Maybe my expectations are too high right now, I don’t know. Ideally I’d love for my son to be surrounded by great people who know how to coach/teach kids the right way to play the game and also how to grow as an individual.

Sorry for the long, all over the place post. If anyone has any info, suggestions, please let me know. Thanks in advanced.

Dodging the top in a 1-4-1

Does anybody dodge the top in a 1-4-1? What is the rotation of the 4 guys across the middle? It seems too crowded inside and in both alleys to attack from the top.

The best I can see is once the dodger chooses his side, the high guy on the crease fills the top, the low guy fills the weak side low (he's already low so he either stays put or goes across the crease), and most importantly the alley guy being dodged at has to push down, probably almost to GLE. All that doesn't seem to create any kind of advantage.

Does anyone know when and where these were made? There doesn’t seem to be much information about them online. When I got it, it had an Excalibur head so I’m guessing it’s pretty old

Weekend In Review: APEX Goalie Summit

This past weekend, my Sophomore son attended the APEX Goalie Summit out of Wilmington, DE. He was asked to sign up after trying for and not making the APEX Sophomore Select showcase. We figured it would be a good alternative since it was being touted as learning opportunity with over 20 events and competition in front of college coaches.

The day before the event, we got a text message showing confirmed coaches from Hopkins, Salisbury, and a selection of ~20 other schools from the D1, 2 and 3 ranks. So, even if we missed out on the showcase, we figured he’d get some good exposure and maybe end up on a list or two.

The Reality

At the end of the weekend- my son gave the weekend a C. I felt like he was being generous. His gripe was that the content was largely similar to what he gets at a Goaliesmith weekend- but with lower overall energy and less instruction. For the most part, it was guys ripping stepdowns at them for two days and the same juggling/hand-eye drills they do everywhere.

There didn’t seem to be munch real college coach representation. It was nice to see Colin Kirst and Brendan Krebs from the pros there. Krebs was representing Manhattan College, but Kirst only mentioned his High School team and didn’t mention Tufts- so it’s not clear if he’s still coaching there. Either way, it didn’t sound like he was representing Tufts in this capacity. It was unclear how they could claim Hopkins would have coaches there- when they had a home Fall ball game on Saturday (ironically against Delaware).

Day 1 ended with a drill similar to Goaliesmith’s “Bad Andy,” and I can definitely say the energy was well lower than what you get there. Where Goaliesmith maintains a lot of engagement among the goalies- most of these kids were outed after one shot and proceeded to check out.

Day 2 was supposed to go until 2:30- but half the kids were done by 1:00 because the last session was just head-to-heads of 20-yard shots- you lose, you’re done for the day and not expected to stay as there was no other programming after that.

Verdict/Bigger Picture

I was not impressed by the quality of the programming and felt somewhat duped by what was promised versus what we got. It was nice to have some engagement with some great college and pro goalies, but they weren’t really put to good use and didn’t provide much real coaching or advice.

We won’t be signing up for another Apex Goalie event - and I would not recommend it. And will probably skip trying for the Junior Jump or similar stuff from them.

Thinking bigger picture- we need to do better if we expect this game to grow. The game is expensive enough and it’s difficult enough to navigate the college recruiting process. It doesn’t help to have events that purport to be one thing - only to be something completely different.
