So, does anyone else’s lab do the poo spins?
Lily does, she is so cute and special. Whenever she has to poo, she will walk in this funny way a little before. And then she start spinning. I typically count 3-4 spins for successful bowel movement that she is so dang proud of. Photos of her cheesing after successful completion. It’s adorable but cleaning it up can be difficult.
First she runs off to find THE spot all while her butt sways harder and her tail is way higher.
The first spin is wide and slower than the others. It’s her setup spin. To most it looks like she found a fun smell to turn around back on. If this spin is not successful she will try again somewhere else.
The second spin gets a little tighter but still has some circling steps. She starts to get lower and crouch a little on this one.
Spins 3-4 are TIGHT, almost like a ballerina is doing a spin, feet are the center, her back arches, her head raises, and the poop comes out flying… in a circle around her.
Then she straightens out, maybe does a little kick, and runs back to me with so much excitement from her successful dance routine.
Sometimes, idk why, she stops moving once the first drop comes out and she will stand still. I’ve noticed she spins a little less when other dogs are around. Still spins, but maybe 1-2 times and less ballerina like.
Aren’t labs the funniest little babies 🤦🏼♀️😂😂

We have a 6-month-old chocolate Labrador, and I’m curious about other people’s experiences.
Our puppy gets overstimulated very easily. Whenever we give him attention, pet him, or try to cuddle him, it often turns into biting, jumping, or trying to initiate play. He’s not aggressive, just incredibly excitable and mouthy. Sometimes it feels like we have a little crocodile instead of a Labrador!
Meanwhile, I keep seeing videos of Labrador puppies on social media, like Woody the Chocolate Labrador, who seem unbelievably calm, gentle, and patient, even at just 5–6 months old. Their owners can cuddle them, kiss them, play with their paws, and they just lie there peacefully. If I tried that with ours, he’d probably start biting my hands or jumping all over me within seconds.
I know it doesn’t necessarily show reality, but it makes me wonder how much of this is normal puppy behavior and how much comes down to individual temperament.
Were your dogs also this wild, mouthy, and demanding at around 6 months old? Did they eventually grow into calm, affectionate dogs who could relax around the house without constant supervision? And if so, at what age did you start noticing a real change?
Or were your calmer adult Labradors already relatively calm as puppies?
I’m particularly interested in whether a very excitable puppy can genuinely grow into a laid-back adult, or whether we’re likely to have a high-energy dog for life. 😳

One year ago we had to say goodbye to our beloved, precious Luna.
I’ve had dogs my entire life - all were special in their own way - but Luna was the dearest, sweetest, most trusting and gentle soul of all of them.
We got her at 6 when she had cancer. She beat that and lived 7 more years with us.
She started fading a few months prior. She was diagnosed with arthritis, and that’s what we were treating her for. Despite her obvious growing discomfort - she never lost her zest for life.
Eventually I ended up putting a mattress on the floor so I could sleep with her.
One year ago tonight I went to bed, only to be wakened up by Luna pawing at me at about 3 AM. She didn’t want to go out, and I just wanted to go back to sleep, but something told me not to. So I just loved on her, petting, scratching, talking to her, for about an hour. She ate it up. After about an hour - we both went back to sleep.
When she got up in the morning - I knew it was over. There was no light left in her eyes, no enthusiasm in her actions. She turned down a walk, which she had never done. She refused to eat, even when I scrambled her some eggs - and she would never turn down scrambled eggs. She refused to drink. She just lay on the floor - none of her usual zest - staring blankly at a wall.
I called my wife - who was at the health club - and told her I thought we’d have to do it today. She was in denial. I sent her pictures. She said she’d come home. I called my vet - the same one who diagnosed her with arthritis - and was told they couldn’t see us for 5 days.
I knew it was over and I didn’t want to see her suffer. So I called another vet who could see us in the afternoon. All along - hoping for a miracle - I kept gently trying to coax her to go out, eat, drink, respond to affection - anything.
Finally - as the time was approaching - I grabbed the leash - and she came to me! She went for one final walk with me, limping around the block. We stopped and saw her friend who always gave her a treat. She gladly took the treat, but only ate half and immediately lay down.
When we got home I sat down to have some lunch before we took her in. Suddenly I noticed her sitting next to me looking at me - watching me eat with the same hopeful enthusiasm she always did when we ate. I gave her a bite - she ate. We finished the meal (roasted lamb) like that - alternating bites. Finally - she went to her bowl and took a long drink of water.
When we got to the vet - we weren’t called back for almost an hour. When we finally saw the vet - she told us that she had been watching Luna the entire time - and that it was - in fact - time.
She did an exam - and what she said shocked us. Luna didn’t have arthritis - she had canine Lou Gherig’s disease. She would be dead within weeks regardless of what we did, and, looking at her…
The vet told us “she’s telling you that it’s okay, she’s ready to go”. So we let her go.
It’s been said that when you know it’s time - you should give them their best day. I couldn’t do that for Luna - but she did that for me. If not the best day - a day I’ll never forget - and always cherish in my heart.
Despite her condition - she woke me for one last - extended time of affection, she went with me for one last walk (we walked all the time, one of the pictures shows her wearing a Conqueror Challenge medal), and she shared one last meal. And then she said, in her own way - “it’s okay”.
I’m sorry this is so long. I miss her every day.
I don’t respond to every Rainbow Bridge post - but I share in the loss and grief of everyone who posts there.
Love your pups, spoil them - and, Luna, I’ll see you at the bridge.

The title kind of explains my whole post but I have gotten several comments on how its strange that I let the dogs on the bed. Does anyone else sleep with their dogs? I love my sweeties so much, I couldn’t be so heartless to deliberately make them sleep on the floor.

This is my 8 month female black english labrador. She's always been fine but last night I noticed something funny on her walk but then it got normal. She didn't do her usual last poo of the night and this video was before she did her poo this morning. I've no idea if it's related to that but the poo came out normal anyway. I'm worried she's injured. But during the walk only that minute that it was noticeable, after that she seemed more normal.
Edit: thank you everyone for putting my mind to ease, she pooped and she's fine, she's my first dog, it's a whole learning path lol

pic of the big baby
I wish I was kidding but this sweetie is scared of his new water bowl. He had an incident this week where he drank a bowl of water super fast and then immediately threw it all up. He’s always drank his water super fast like he’s parched. I decided to buy him a slow drinking water bowl to help him slow down and hopefully prevent another puke party. The problem is, he’s terrified of it. There’s a piece of it that floats on top of water and only allows him a small bit at a time, and he drank out of it once and skittered away when he saw the piece bobbing in the water.
I guess I’m looking for advice on how to get him to drink out of it? Not be afraid? This feels like such a stupid question but I know he’s thirsty, he keeps walking over there like he wants to drink but he won’t.

We had to put our 11-year-old lab recently. Our hearts were broken. We loved that beautiful girl. Well last week I called the place we got her from, just to say, if you IN THE FUTURE have any litters with our dogs bloodline in any way, let us know. Well she said, I just happen to have…..
And then Casey came into our lives. He is helping mend our hearts each day.

Meet Martha! (Aka Martha Moo 🐮 or Big Marfs)
When we rescued Martha at 9 weeks old she was around 4.5-5kg. I just weighed her at 5.5 months old this week and she is 15.3kg. Is she on the smaller side? I saw another lab at 6 months weighing in at 22kg and there's just 2 weeks difference.
For reference she is sitting next to her American Foxhound / beagle cross Harold who is about 32kg and very tall/lanky.
What did your female labs weigh at 6 months, and are they small or large fully grown?
Thanks! 🤎

She saw me add the glucosamine chews to her breakfast and refused to eat it. I added broth. Not good enough.
I tossed a little more kibble on top. Still no.
So I removed her bowl and now she has a big sad.

I know I post her a ton but she’s just so beautiful and I’m so in love!
She did get a lil puppy pancake for being a (mostly) good girl.
