Some users complained about how much news was appearing on the subreddit, and felt it was drowning out other conversations:

Why so many articles? : r/kurdistan

While we explained that Reddit was a social news aggregation site, a minority of our subscribers continued to complain about how much news was posted as articles.

Why is this subreddit keep sharing news? : r/kurdistan

Some suggested that the news should instead be in a digest format.

We have experimented with doing a daily news digest:

However, as we predicted, the viewership numbers did not increase. Engagement numbers did not increase. The same amount of discussion type posts appeared, of similar quality in post and commentary. The digest format ended up burying all news in the digest posts. Normally, at least some news articles tend to rise towards the top in viewership. Even with reduced news posting, the highest engagement was still on some of the standalone news posts we did allow. There was little engagement in the news digest posts.

The daily digest format also was were the majority of Sorani and Kurmanji posts to the subreddit were appearing. Restricting Sorani and Kurmanji news posts to the digest, also ended up burying Kurdish dialect pots on the subreddit.

We will probably now discontinue the Daily News Roundup/Digest format for posting news. We may reduce the number of articles we post overall, but we are still committed to wanting to see more Kurdish posted on the subreddit.
