Final Thoughts...
I wanted to post some thoughts today, with this being the last night of Korra's era and all.
Today feels like kind of a sad day, at least for me. It's the end of an era. And basically the start of another one. Not just because of who is the "current" Avatar is, but also because of the state of the franchise itself, and my own relationship to it. For my part, its an era that feels just that much more bitter and that much less hopeful.
Obviously, the new show is going to reveal a lot of new information in the coming days and weeks, which I've been trying to prepare for.
But whatever those new reveals are, I'm pretty confident it's going to be pretty divisive and probably unsatisfying to a lot of people who are upset. So the discourse we've seen up until now, based on incomplete information, I imagine will only grow exponentially once the full reveals are out there.
And I'm pretty sure of that because literally every single time I've heard someone propose a specific concrete idea for what the twist might or could or should be in Seven Havens, they've described something that I know I would hate or that would fill me with despair. So yeah, ultimately, I'm bracing for it to be pretty grim. :(
As I sit here and look ahead to the future, I'm also finding that I can't really see Korrasami as the story of joy and hope that I used to. This didn't happen all at once, but whenever I think about them now, I feel sad. I often feel like the only things we can hope for these days are small mercies. Maybe small things will work out for them or maybe there will be future Korra content that isn't related to this show.
Grief always seems to come and go in waves, and I've felt many waves of it over the course of the last few years since we learned there would be a new show after Korra. Sometimes I still wonder if the lesson I'm supposed to take from it all is that it was a mistake to fall in love with TLOK.
Given how much the show changed my life, I don't think I could ever bring myself to believe that. But even still, the joy that story brought me now feels mixed in with a lot of sorrow and anguish. And as a fan, I guess that's the version of it that I will have to carry with me from here on. That's why looking ahead to the future feels so bleak for me.
Korrasami brought me out of a very hopeless place all those years ago. It will always be important to me. But I used to think I could always count on it being primarily a source of hope and joy for me.
I guess I was wrong.

I can't even begin to make myself care about 7H.
The whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Korra has already suffered so much as a character, does she REALLY need to be dragged through the mud even more than she already has been?
I just find myself tired, sad, and kind of exasperated when I think about it.
Why can't the writers just let her have her peace?

yeah, idgaf about defenders of 7H here and try to reason that "real life aint sunshine and rainbows." like no shit, why do u think i turn to fiction to avoid how grim life can be. ultimately, both Korra and Asami deserved a long, peaceful life and die of old age rather than a death at a young age. it's just so fkn unfair.

Agreed. Korra went through absolute Hell and isn't even being given a break in a different series. They just can't let her be...
It's exhausting as someone who really loved her character and her relationship with Asami. Why can't Korra have anything nice? Why do they keep throwing her back into The Torment Nexus?
It almost feels spiteful.

Yeah, it's really bizarre. Everything about the premise and marketing disincentivizes me from engaging with it. I don't care about the central mystery of the show, which is by Bryke's own admission, meant to be the main draw for the audience. Why would I be excited or hungry to learn exactly what miserably tragic end my favorite character experienced? Why would I want to get invested in a new show when having loved their last show just ended with me feeling hurt and betrayed?

You put it to words better than I did, I feel exactly the same.
Honestly the way Korra has been treated almost feels spiteful and as someone who really likes her and roots for her it sucks.
She can't even catch a break outside of her own series. They just can't leave her alone.

The new series doesn't exist to me. Korra and Asami lived happily ever after, the end.

We’re getting a new fully fledged Korra comic! So at least there’s that to look forward to!

I was initially excited, but then I saw theories that the title might imply it's meant to tie into 7 Havens, & now doubt is creeping in. Having watched the 1st trio of episodes, I gotta say, people have been telling me ever since this thing was announced to "look past LOK & give it a chance on its own merits," but even if I do that, it's just kind of fucking boring.

Look I’m not a huge post apocalypse girlie. I find stories set DURING the apocalypse way more interesting. So tbh the concept of this show isn’t really my cup of tea.
That said, if we get a Korra story set between whatever the cataclysm is and Seven Havens? I could kinda be into that.
Regardless I don’t think that’s what this is since they put out some like cover page concept art at the announcement and Korra still has her season 4 look, Zaheer features prominently, and the background of the art is the Red Lotus symbol. So it seems like it’s more likely going to deal with whatever Zaheer and the Red Lotus get up to post season 4 than directly with Seven Havens material.

But what if the Red Lotus caused the apocalypse. It could be the comic doesn't depict the apocalypse itself directly, but foreshadows what's going to happen.

It’s called the long game and will be written by Mike. We don’t know anything else right now, but hopefully it’ll do some work to tie up some of these threads the series itself might not get to.

Well, my trust in Michael DiMartino has completely cratered since 2014, but I guess you never know with these things.

I mean look, I have always had complicated feelings about trusting the story of two queer Asian/poc characters with two cis het white guys. It’s complicated fa.

I don't even really want to get into all of it right now, but all I'll say is that that at this point I think we have strong reasons to mistrust their judgment even beyond the fact that they are two cis het white guys writing two queer POC women.

Ironically i liked Seven Havens in first three episodes much more than i expected. The music is fantastic (reminds me of Mass Effect and Horizon zero dawn/forbidden west), i liked new characters and i like 4 mysteries they put in front of us. This is not like Double Dissapointment where i disliked everything from the premise to music and characters, i really enjoy rewatching first episodes all over again, and especially hear the music.
That being said, ASH did released a lot of stupid Korra haters on twitter and for that i still would rather this series to NOT exist. I was content with having ATLA, TLOK and books only. Also fuck Korra haters, such a pathetic and miserable people. Like how fans of Aang, a kind and warm hearted person can have such angry fanbase
But I used to think I could always count on it being primarily a source of hope and joy for me.
This is basically what i said about PF in 2024 and i why i was hella mad about double dissapointment and i am truly sorry ASH ruined it for you in this fandom :(
It could ruin for me latter too depending on Korrasami future in possible flashbacks. I swear if Bryke pull the "they broke up because of this and this bs..."
Though them having only 25 years together already seems to be true if we beelive Omni Man Karthik's estimates in ep 2, and it still sad even in best case scenario (if Bryke didn't pulled "we broke up" bs to make Korra's life even more tragic)
Korrasami is personal for me too because it turned me from homophobe in 2014 into not homophobe and changed my views on same sex relationship, and thanks only to Korrasami i enjoyed later such ships as catradora, pricefield and rangshi, and thanks to korrasami i am totally okay with Jae being gay in ash, and thanks to Korrasami i'll be okay if my kids will be gays too, so ofc it hurst me bryke didn't honored such important couple.

I learned recently that I can't even get through a 30 second clip about the side characters without feeling this overwhelming sense of bitterness. I don't think watching the show would be very fun for me. I think even if I tried, it would be a genuinely miserable experience.

Tbh I am not that excited about the new show because of my attachment to Korra and all the discourse but I will try and watch it because I overall love the franchise. I try and stay out of fandom spaces with the negativity and such

I'm trying to find a good balance. Like if it's actually good I want to watch it unspoiled, but I don't want to watch it if it's not or if it's just too far in the "throwing Korra under the bus" direction. For which I need to know some of it. I imagine someone in this sub will be the canary and if it's good and actually adds to the LoK story we can all watch it in the end, if not we can all pretend it doesn't exist.

If the show Seven Havens is hated on and not well received by fans.
I fully expect them to just forget about Seven Havens altogether and just go back to LoK, give us an LoK Book 5 set in the Fire Nation and do Asami justice don't reduce her to a Lois Lane damsel in distress like the comics did and just say Seven Havens is a potential future that didn't come to pass.

u/despaseeto 6d ago
they won't. LoK had its own tribulations from execs, to homophobic parents/adults who use politics to voice out their anger, and viewers who just straight-up hate korra (most likely cuz she's a woman and poc) and have a boner for Aang so they only want more story of him and his gang.
7H, if it turns out to be worse reviewed, will not be retconned by BryKe. they'll likely expand more through comics if the series gets cut off quickly.

It's not the end of an era :)
LoK and korrasami as well will still have a soft spot in the organ that pumps our blood forever!
And like you, OP. KA recently when I came back to the series like 5 months or something brought me out of a dark spot. Tho I'm still in my Korra alone episode but, it made me start with my KA recovery fic:)
Also I'm excited for ASH, tbh. I'm pretty confident the rumours about Korra will be fake and that she actually saved the world. That being said, I will treat ASH as it's own separate series.
