Kinect One Is this normal for Kinect v2 on Windows?

Post image

My Kinect almost works, I think the problem is that windows cannot listen on its mics, like it is able to detect it in the mic devices list but it cannot hear anything through it. I've tried reinstalling the SDK multiple times but it ends up failing again and again.

Can someone please help me?

what worked for me is going into system settings -> sound and under kinect turn off any microphone setting kinect has turned on, this would only show up if the kinect is plugged in

Thanks, but I already tried that.

I think it's an issue with the audio driver not working properly because my system is not able to wake up the kinect when it's time to use the microphone, and consequently it can't detect any audio.

Are you getting an image if you turn on camera app? Under regular settings does your Kinect appear in this camera list.

Yes, my kinect works normally for 5 seconds and then shuts down and reboots again in a loop.

It's the classic issue, I know.

As shown in my post, I think the culprit is the audio drivers not working properly which causes the same effect as disallowing using the kinect mic.

Edit: to add more context, the kinect mic is being recognised but my laptop is not able to wake up the kinect for just mic. Consequently, it cannot pick up any audio from it.

It's so damn finicky I encountered same issue. For no rhyme or reason, plugging into different usb 3.0 and reinstalli g drivers worked for me. I had this mic issue also.

Hey, can you please check and show your audio drivers and APOs in device manager? I have a theory I want to verify

Yea I can definitely do that when I get home today.

I noticed your kinect is plugged in but I cannot see any Xbox NUI sensor for the kinect mic. Is that Microphone array your Xbox kinect?

Yes to get windows hello to work correctly my fix was uninstalling it altogether from device manager. Rebooted and system recognized both Kinect as camera device and microphone.

Hey um, I just wanted to ask what kind of audio drivers do you have and if you have multiple APOs in your device manager?

Go to Settings => System => Sound, click on "Xbox NUI Sensor" under Input, on the next page set "Audio Enhancements" to disabled. By default, Windows 11 will enable Voice Clarity and that does not work with the Kinect v2, it's the main cause of the Kinect rebooting every 5 seconds...

But there's no specific driver for the audio part of the Kinect, Windows simply uses its inbox drivers. If you're still experiencing the Kinect reboots every 5 seconds after disabling Voice Clarity, the issue is likely on the Kinect itself, it might be defective...

My Laptop has non conventional hardware and drivers, it uses Cirrus as the main audio drivers. Most people who use kinect use either Realtek or Intel so I wouldn't like to jump to that conclusion at this point.

Also, it works on my friend's laptop

And that's completely irrelevant.

The Kinect driver that comes with the SDK (or, alternatively, through Windows Update) installs to the USB Composite Device node of the Kinect v2, and that exposes a regular audio input and camera devices, which will use the inbox Windows 11 drivers. Advanced features (IR Camera, motion tracking and so on) goes through the Kinect SDK API, which bypasses those and talks directly to the root USB Composite device.

Whether you have a Realtek, Intel, Cirrus Logic or other codec IC doesn't change that, as they reside on a different bus completely separate from the USB controller...

My machine cannot hear any audio from my kinect. I have stable 30 fps but the kinect resets for which i think my audio drivers are to blame. What do you reckon I should do?

I saw in your other comments it was turning off and on, not sure if you figured it out, but you need KinectRuntime-v2.2_1905. Also make sure to download the driver via Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates, you'll see the driver there.

I was indeed using this version of the driver.

But thank you for your suggestion.
