Help Looking for a keyboard similar to the HP c1405b

• Upvotes

As a kid in the mid to late 2000s in the u.s., my mom had a chunky white computer with a white tower with a grate type thing on it. After doing much googling, the most similar looking thing is the HP 9000, and the c1405b looks very similar to the keyboard she had. She does not remember what computer it was and my early memory is a little foggy.

What I know for sure is that it was almost entirely white/off-white with a few grey accents (some of the key caps were grey). Everything was obviously wired, and the mouse was standard mouse shape with a smooth round rubbery scroll wheel. It had a ball on the bottom and might have had a blue-ish scroll wheel. The computer was all white with grey printing/logo on the bottom of the frame around the screen. The monitor did not have any buttons.

I am fairly sure it was not the pavilion because it was not shiny. Can anyone help me find the keyboard that would have come with the computer? She used the computer for work and worked in either finance or statistics, it would not be newer than 2006, but looked like it couldn't have been older than maybe '97. But I'm judging that using my current knowledge and an old foggy memory. If anyone can help at all, thank you. If I need to go to a different sub-reddit please kindly redirect me, thanks!

same frosted PC keycaps in both photos. Pretty dark with the lights off, but the amber backlight really comes through when they're on. Esc and Enter are aluminium.

3D printed my own case for my Preonic Rev. 3. First custom case, very happy with the turnout.

I could’ve diffused the leds a bit better with something, but it doesn’t look as bad in person.

Discussion Suggestions for wireless keyboard & Mous

• Upvotes

Hi folks I am looking to buy a good wireless keyboard and mouse for my laptop, specifically I want a light coloured good looking and matching keyboard and mouse. For example colors like white, off white, grey, or any other light color. Please suggest good ones under budget of around 1000-1200.

I searched and got this two (given names below) at good price point, as per reviews the Zebronics one (Zebronics Zeb companion 500) is better so should I buy that or the acer one is better or should go for any other one please suggest. Can extend the budget a little more to grab a good deal.

Use case: general work and editing etc.

Here are the names, links not allowed:

Acer zc A01si Owd

Zebronics- Zeb companion 500

If anyone using any of these please suggest or please suggest whichever with whichever you had a good experience.

Help Need help choosing my first HE keyboard

As the title says. I'm looking for a 65% keeb. I don't care about sound or looks, just good performance and software (which is def. a compromise here). Here's my list:

  • AULA:
    • WIN 68 HE (standard, pro, or max, whichever)
    • HERO 68 HE (I've heard that AULA has some issues with their weird RT feature. other people say they have no problem)
  • Attack Shark
    • X68
    • X65
    • R82
  • Zifriend HZ 68
  • Furycube M68 HE
  • McHose ACE 68
  • Fantech Atom HE68 (base version)
  • Madlions MAD68

Help ATK RS7 V2 Ultra vs MonsGeek M1 V5 TMR (newer version)

Hey everyone,

I am looking to upgrade my setup and I need a definitive, long term keyboard. My requirements are a 75%+ layout, a heavy metal case, latency/Rapid Trigger performance, and no stem wobble. I have narrowed it down to two options and I cannot choose between them. I would love to hear your thoughts, especially if you own either!

Option 1: ATK RS7 V2 Ultra (Aluminum)

Pros: The performance metrics are high. It has an 8,000Hz polling rate and a 256KHz scanning rate with 0.001mm RT. Independent tests (OSLTT CS) measure its physical latency at around 0.549ms. The Crystalblade switches have closed stems which should fix wobble issues, and the ATK Hub software natively supports SOCD and an analog gamepad mode.

Cons: It is wired only, and I am restricted to ATK's specific magnetic switch because the ATK PCB requires switches with a specific centralized magnet orientation and a compatible 2 pin layout to register properly and QC can sometimes be a lottery.

Option 2: MonsGeek M1 V5 TMR (New Black Gradient V2)

Pros: The options here are great. It has tri mode wireless with a 10,000mAh battery. The biggest selling point for me is the MagMech PCB, because I can swap between magnetic and traditional mechanical switches whenever I want. It weighs 1.83kg with a toolless case. The 32K scanning rate and 0.005mm RT are solid.

Cons: I have heard the stock AstroAim switches have stem wobble. The MonsGeek software is known to be clunky compared to web based drivers.

Which board is truly the better long term investment for everyday use and build quality, and which one is more future proof? Is the MagMech flexibility of the MonsGeek worth sacrificing the speed and web software of the ATK?

Any advice is appreciated!

Help Need help finding a good keyboard(s)

Hello, I will have a budget of 500 dollars to spend on a keyboard, main uses will be at my architectural job drafting, and gaming at home

I would prefer a 100 percent layout, maybe with another numpad so I can have them on both sides, but I'm also open to a 80 with a separate numpad for my architectural job

they don't have to be from the same or a certain brand, although I've heard "wooting" is good and also "razer", 3d connexion could be a good pick as well but I'm afraid their keyboards won't be acceptable for gaming as well.

Material doesn't particularly matter to me, something sturdy though as this will be carried from home and work everyday, sound wise I would prefer something silent, doesn't have to be dead silent but no loud mechanical clicky stuff as that will give me away in horror games and upset my coworkers at works, "thocks" would be ok.

Also if anyone has any suggestions for (space) mouses to pair along with this, I use a razer basilisk v3 pro at home and a 3d connexion compact cad mouse wireless at work.

Im open to any and all suggestions for this budget and use cases, thank you for reading!

Help Need help -50USD keyboard (ATK SHARK, MCHOSE, AULA???)

Hi everyone, I figured before buying a keyboard I would ask the keyboard nerds with their extensive and ever knowing knowledge.

I am about to have delivered a ROG 240hz 1440p WOLED monitor and they have a program where if you leave a good enough review, you get a 50$ amazon gift card, I'm willing to spend an extra 20 if it gets me a big quality or software upgrade, but would like to keep it as close to 50$ as possible.

Right now I have a logitech g305 mouse, and some random red switch 1k polling 60 percent mechanical keyboard.

I am trying to get one that has Hall Effect keys, 65% layout hopefully with arrow keys, 8k polling, and maybe snap tap if possible.

Thank you guys for all the help, let me know if you think a mouse upgrade would be more beneficial or not and what you think the best keyboard upgrade will be!

Help Akko Tac75 HE/ KB recommendations

Hello everyone, I’ve been looking around online for a new keyboard and specifically a Hall effect since I’ve never tried one (for context I’m in Australia) since my old hunk of plastic Yunzii recently gave out on me after 3-4 years ish of use. I don’t work really much anymore so I’m on quite a stingy budget. Out of all the bottom of the bottom keyboards you see on TikTok ads, the tac75 he on aliexpress is pretty well priced by the looks of it at $53 Aud to ship out to me. I know what you pay is what you get and it’s not an amazing keyboard but is it worth risking it from there since I presume Akko’s 12 month product warranty doesn’t apply on AliE and I’ve seen other comments on posts saying theirs bricked before the half year usage point. If it’s not really worth it, is there any keyboards in the budget range ($50-100 aud, 100 would mean I might actually have to save😭 but if it’s worth it it’s whatever) that are actually “good” like not something that has a 50% of breaking on me in the first year.

Cheers

Discussion Why Is There Only One Low-Profile TMR Keyboard on the Market?

Hi. I like low-profile keyboards. In fact, I believe they are objectively better than full-profile ones. But for some reason, there are so few magnetic (both he&tmr) low-profile keyboards on the market. And if you look for keyboards with TMR switches, which are better than HE switches in every way, it turns out there is only one keyboard on the entire market...

It's the Keychron K3 HE, which the manufacturer labeled as "HE" in the product name even though it's actually a TMR keyboard. Many YouTube reviewers also mistakenly call it a hall effect keyboard.

If you're looking for a 60% or 65% layout, there's absolutely nothing available at any price.

UPDATE: As I understand it, low-profile TMR switches don’t exist yet.

It's really frustrating to see the same keyboards over and over again, with useless features like knobs and screens, and reviewers who don't understand that one of the advantages of TMR switches is their low power consumption, which makes wireless operation possible without a huge battery.

Help A slim Keyboard pad to dampen the sound?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got a cheap KTRIO Large Gaming Mouse Pad Desk Mat for my keyboard and mouse but it seems it does not dampen the sound from the desk at all and create a loud sound. Without a pad, it is worse. So I had to use a towel as a keyboard pad to reduce desk ping or hollow desk sound.

Im using a towel to solve the problem but the height is 2cm which is quite high even with a palm rest so I need a slim desktop mat that can dampen the sound dramatically. But not sure if that's possible in terms of physics.

Is there any desktop mat thinner than 5mm but completely dampen the sound from hollow desk sound or technically impossible to find?

Help TMR keyboard recommendations

I've been looking and looking non stop but I just dont find any keyboard that I would like.

What keyboard do you recommend me if I have the following preferences:

I do game I do programming as work I prefer at least 75% layout or even TKL (because I dont really need the numpad but I do need the function keys, arrow keys, and preferably to have a knob) It should be wireless When I game I play cs2 so I prefer hall effect or even better TMR switches I dont neccesarely look for a big brand but like reliability wise Im not looking for something lower quality than what I have used so far (Redragon Surara and Aqirys Mira, second one is a romanian brand with quite ok products)

What are my options ? I'll take multiple choices if you have, not really looking to exceed 150€ if possible price wise, but I wil def check out everything.

Help Hi, help with buying 96% keyboard to 370zł.

Hello, I was looking for a 96% or 60% keyboard (and buy a Redragon K733 to have a numpad) wireless mechanical keyboard with ANSI layout up to PLN 370, the Royal Kludge RK96, which is not available in my country, and the Keychron V6 looks good. I want to use the keyboard to sometimes play FPS and RPG games and for everyday use. So if you can please recommend me a similar looking black keyboard with RGB.

Help Need advice when choosing a mechanical keyboard

I'm currently using a membrane keyboard (Meetion K9000) and I really like it, it doesn't feel squishy and has a nice bubbly tactile feel when typing on it. However the only nitpick I have is that whenever I feel like I'm bottoming out with my spacebar, the input isn't always registered (only happens in the upstroke thankfully). I've used only a few mechanical boards: one was a Genesis Thor 300 with Outemu Reds (genuine POS, never again), and another one was Dark Project DPO87 at an internet cafe and loved it (except for typing but I do think it's just something I need to get used to.

What mechanical keyboards are generally recommended at around the 30-50 dollar price range? I did see an Attack Shark Hall Effect for sale and it seemed tempting, but Hipyo tech reviewed and said that it sucked (don't know how much merit his review carries), and the Dark Project keyboards are tempting too but availability is very poor for them here where I live.

Regarding size I can do by with any as long as it isn't 60 percent or below, but preferably either TKL or full sized. Pre-lubed is mandatory for the sound, and i would prefer it to be wired over wireless. I can do by with linear switches since I once tried out cherry mx browns and really did not like them, but if there are any really good tactile mechanical keyboards it would be very nice
