Swap Meet Saturday Swap Meet Saturday

Welcome to The Swap Meet!

Do you have stuff that needs a new home, do you have a new home that needs stuff? Looking for something specific?

Let's see how this swap meet goes, it's an experiment.

But first, some rules:

* 1 - this is a public space, be mindful of phone numbers, email and location addresses. Assume that if you post a number, expect everyone to call, years from now to ask if it's still available.

* 2 - please report problem buyers or sellers. this is a member to member space but if people are being a problem we need to know. resist the urge to call them out in frank and blunt language in the thread, that's a hot ticket to getting flagged yourself as part of the problem.

* 3 - if it's gone let a mod know if you are having trouble deleting your post yourself. no one likes seeing the exact thing you need but it's from years ago and from a user who hasn't been seen is years. I'll flush it out at the end of the month, if it's still kicking around, repost on the next saturday.

* 4 -posts get posted on saturdays, it's swap meet saturday not swap meet whenever you feel.

* 5 - this is an experiment, if it fails it fails. if it disappears one day so be it.

The idea is this thread IS the swap meet. You have stuff that needs to come or go, you reply on here. I'll sticky it up at the top so it's always here. Provided it's maintained, the whole thread shouldn't be terribly long so, thankfully, no doom scrolling the buy/sell/trade.

so ::cuts ribbon with comically large scissors:: Welcome to Swap Meet Saturday. ::Balloons and Confetti drop::

Growing up in northern China in the 90s, the streets were full of little mini trucks, microvans and boxy sedans doing all the real work: hauling vegetables, furniture, sometimes whole families. Nobody thought of them as special.

I’ve been rebuilding them as low-poly models for a few years, and recently started putting them into a small driving game set on the streets I remember. Driving them turned out to be as humbling as it should be: watermelons roll off the bed if you take a corner too fast, and the little police hatchback can barely catch anyone.

Which of these do you recognize? And what humble workhorse would you add?

Importing information, insights and experiences 95’ Suzuki Carry as a daily beater

Post image

So kinda new to the Kei truck game but wanna get into it and found this 95’ Suzuki Carry 5mt, 10,705 miles, clean WA title for $6500 OTD has maintenance records and brand new tires.

I want to get this just to use a daily beater in city commutes 10 miles a day ish 20-45mph zones. Eventually wanna put some work into it too but it’s stock and I will likely just keep up with maintenance for a while.

My only thing is I have a 6 hour drive back home on highway at 60-65mph zones. Should I be concerned about the drive or just send it and make the drive.

Any advice for a new owner would be appreciated!

Mechanical and Technical Ok to wire tap cig lighter for speedometer?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m putting in a Nintendo gameboy speedometer and want a clean hardwire look to it. I tried an add-a-fuse but I can’t get the fuse box cover back on and I don’t want to leave it bare. Question is can I tap the 12V cigarette lighter directly here and run a 12v-USB converter off that? Which of these wires would I tap if I can?

Mechanical and Technical Mystery Noise

I am unable to find the source of this for the life of me. It’s different from the regular Kei truck rattles, and is concentrated on the passenger side somewhere. Can be heard from inside the cab and outside as well. Anyone got a clue?

Edit: the sound happens on bumpy roads and the like. Pristine paved roads and the sound is gone.

Mechanical and Technical Head lights for 1997 Mitsubishi minicab u47t.

I am trying to get new head light for my minicab and seems like the led lights won’t work for it. The website said it was compatible with my truck. Looking into it the whole front light is the headlight so there’s no way to put this bulb in. I was seeing if anyone could help me getting new headlights. I think I have to replace the whole old set that’s one the truck.

Mechanical and Technical Rear axle replacement option?

So I’ve been doing a little bit of searching around. I’m trying to get ideas for an engine swap among other things that I wanna do for my 1994 Suzuki carry.
Arguably one of the most important things out there than the drive train and engine is the rear axle because obviously the stock one is not going to be able to hold up under a lot more pressure than the stock engine you can put out

So I was looking to see if anybody here had any good suggestions or ideas in regards to axel replacement options like maybe a RX 7/Miata rear end since I know those are small

Or maybe even a Suzuki samurai since I know they run a similar drive train I just don’t know how strong the relax is set up

Long-term my idea for the engine replacement is probably going to be a K 20 or K 24
Or even possibly an L9S I think that’s what the engine is called. It’s what’s in the cobalt SS.

Nothing has been put in stone yet. These are just my open ideas.

Mechanical and Technical 1.5" Lift Springs

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey everyone I picked up a set of 1.5" lift springs for my 93 Sambar. I was about to throw them on but looked a little more and it looks like I might need spacers or other things to help with camber, etc?

Can anyone fill me on that? Was trying to search the sub but couldn't find what I was looking for.

I’m curious what everyone else received with their JDM vehicles! Mine came with an old leather key chain key holder, plus a Daihatsu Saitama dealership sticker! Nothing crazy, but super cool I think! Other than this I just have the basic vehicle stickers/decals. The leather key holder is super cool! It’s not in good condition so I don’t use it but still cool to see.

Did anyone else receive anything similar or unique with their vehicle??

Mechanical and Technical How easy would it be to engine swap a 1984 Honda acty with a 1.9 tdi diesel engine

Contemplating buying a 1984 Honda acty with high miles but little rust and just engine swapping it how Hard would it be to pull this off the engine isn’t too huge but not the original engine size of the acty? Anyone have a clue never engine swapped before but this is where I will learn to.

Importing information, insights and experiences DA16T Suzuki Carry oil change questions

Hi,

Doing my first own oil change after various garages have done the last few. I'm just lost on what to get:

Update: this is plain (not super) carry, manual 5 speed.

OIL:
Owners manual says 0w16 or 0w20. But every Japanese youtube video on how to do it has them putting in 5w30 in this truck. This is also what a lot of other threads seem to recommend. I live in the UK so it only generally gets below zero on and off for a few weeks a year but can expect to be below 5-10C in my area for several months.

FILTER:
Meanwhile I also don't understand what filter to get. I can get the same as the one the garage put on last time (MANN W67/2). Getting the genuine Suzuki part will take longer, and obviously others will fit but I don't know the pros and cons and risks.

PLUG:
All I've got is that it's a 14mm head, suggesting M9, though I'm not sure on the length. I can loosen it to measure it, without draining the current oil. May have to guess the length or just change the seal this time.

Also the garage said we're good for a year and it's coming up to that but I know that's not the advice. I can do every 6 months once I'm set up for myself. I can't remember what oil they put in but have a feeling they said 0wX was a bit extreme.

If/when I succeed I will update this thread with answers so there's a resource in English!

Kei Van Life Why no late models?

Hello truckers!!!

Waiting on a ship to float over from Japan with my 2000 Mitsubishi minicab. Been a fan forever and finally pulled the trigger in August. Why is it that I see posters with all early 90’s? Is it design or something. To me they all look awesome. Anyway thanks everyone

Has to be fuel related as when I over fill my gas tank it squirts out of here. Some kind of hose maybe? Can't notice a fuel leak otherwise

Importing information, insights and experiences Need some good buying options.

I’m sorry if I’m a bother for posting this here, I’ve read the rules but am still minor sure this is allowed because you probably get a bunch of these, so if it’s not I’ll just delete it.

Basically, I’m about to get my license and have an unfathomable obsession with kei vehicles, specifically vans. My mom is opposed to me getting one, so I’d probably need to get a great deal to convince my dad it’s too great a deal to pass up. For reference he’s a car guy and owns a body shop.

Does anyone know a good place other than Facebook marketplace(my parents don’t trust it)to get a really good deal on a kei van? Ideally one with the little nub in the from, I love those and would want the extra little bit of crash zone for my parents’ peaceful sleep.

Any advice helps so whatever you got basically.
