Recommendation Request Funny Romantic K-dramas

I used to watch K-dramas a lot, but work got in the way and I haven’t had much time for them in the last few years. Now I finally have some free time again and I’d really like to find a drama that gets me hooked again.

Romance and comedy are definitely my favorite genres. I’m looking for something with a good romance, plenty of funny moments, and characters that are easy to get invested in.

Secret Garden is still my favorite. I loved the mix of romance and comedy and how attached I became to the characters. I also really enjoyed My Love from the Star, The Heirs, Boys Over Flowers, The king, My Lovely Sam Soon, and Business Proposal.

Those are the dramas I remember watching, although it has been so long that I honestly can’t remember every K-drama I’ve seen over the years.

I’ve been away from K-dramas for quite a while, so I’m especially curious about good dramas I may have missed during that time. What would you recommend based on what I enjoy?

Her Private Life is a fun fake-dating office romance with a nice balance of squee-inducing moments, whimsical humor and compelling emotional scenes. Deok-mi’s a museum curator who secretly runs a fan site for a K-pop idol. Ryan’s her new boss who discovers her secret and after fans start to suspect she’s dating the idol, he offers to be her fake boyfriend to throw them off. After a rocky beginning, they develop one of the healthiest, most adoring relationships in K-dramas and their chemistry is 🔥. Ryan and Deok-mi are the very definition of couple goals.

Unlike most K-romances where one person is more invested in the relationship than the other, they’re equally smitten with each other and it’s wonderful watching them evolve from mutual dislike to respect to attraction to head-over-heels at the same time. Once they get together, they’re rock solid with no silly misunderstandings, noble idiocy or contrived breakups. They’re very protective of one another and support each other both professionally and personally and he even puts his career on the back burner so she can pursue her dream job. Ryan and Deok-mi are the very definition of couple goals.

Kim Jae-wook said he and Park Min-young wrote many of their scenes themselves because they wanted to make viewers’ hearts flutter. They included a lot of physical affection so they’re very convincing as a couple who are madly in love and can’t keep their hands and lips off of each other. Her Private Life is my comfort drama and I still get butterflies every time I rewatch it. (Netflix, Viki, Prime, Tubi, and Roku)

Crazy Love is a hilarious enemies-to-lovers fake-relationship dark comedy about the CEO of a hagwon (cram school) and his long-suffering assistant who decides to take charge of her life after a health scare. The ML is a real jêrk in the beginning due to a series of losses and betrayals when he was younger, but he does get more likable as they reveal his backstory and he gradually learns trust again. They really hate each other at first and it’s hard to imagine them ever falling for each other but the actors and writers make it work and you find yourself rooting for them. (Hulu/Disney+)

Crash Landing on You is a charming rom-com thriller about a South Korean mogul/heiress who accidentally crash lands in North Korea after a storm. She’s discovered by a North Korean soldier who has to decide whether to turn her into the authorities or help her return to South Korea. (Netflix)

Romantics Anonymous is a wonderful J-Drama starring K-Actress Han Hyo-joo as a gifted chocolatier who lives in Tokyo. (Netflix)

Definitely try Lovely Runner ‐it's a great time travel drama and a beautiful romance.

Because This Is My First Life is a hidden gem.

We Are All Trying Here isn't a romcom but it's a masterpiece.

Bonn Apletit, Your Majesty is great historical fantasy romcom, real enjoyment.

Love scaut is a heartworming workplace setting romance.

Marry My Husband - exceptionally good romance/revenge drama.

When Life Gives You Tangerines is another masterpiece - it holds the first place on MDL for a reason.

Family by Choice - super cute romcom

My Dearest is great historical romance drama - Korean Gone With The Wind, literally

No particular order

Jealousy incarnate/Don't dare to dream is always my top pic when it comes to romcoms! It really leans into the comedy with its wacky humor, while also having charming characters and a unique compelling romance plot.
