Community Content Update on my Fluent folder icons repository
I few months ago I posted a picture of some custom folder icons I use (they're all based on the Fluent theme, though I think they are generic enough to fit into other icon themes as well). By popular request I made a Github page where I share all these icons, and in the meantime I've made 115 of them!
In the Github repository you can see the preview of all icons in light and dark mode, and below that they are neatly organised into categories like 'System', 'Media', 'Writing', 'Archiving', 'Gaming', 'Linux Distros', and even some experimental ones with colours, patterns and pop culture references.
I'm sharing 5 pictures here:
- overview of all icons in dark mode
- same in light mode
- example of what a Documents folder could look like in Dolphin
- screenshot of some of the functional categories on Github
- example of what some decorative/experimental folder designs look like in bulk
To use them, download the ones you want (or zip them all) and add them to your icon theme. The location might differ for your current theme, but mine are stored in ~/.local/share/icons/"your-theme-name"> scalable > places'.
Comments and suggestions are welcome!

That looks nice. How do I implement that into my system?

You can download the icons you want to use and place them in the directory of your active icon theme (either in `/usr/share/icons/` or in `/.local/share/icons/`, depending on what icon theme you’re using). In my local icon theme there is a folder called ‘scalable’ and a subfolder ‘places’, so I copy the custom icons into that directory. Now, in Dolphin you can right click a folder, go to properties and click on the icon. This will open a selection menu, where you can search and select the icon you want. This changes the folder icon to the custom one.
Edit: if you want to change all default folder icons (for example with another color or a pattern), you have to replace the folder.svg file with the one you want. So for example, let’s say you want the Lego themed folder, you copy paste the custom-folder-lego.svg to the appropriate directory and rename it folder.svg. This will make it the default directory icon. Make a copy of the original folder.svg just in case you want to revert it later.

Good work! If you want to update your Google Drive folder icon with the new icon style you can use the one I made. Just give me credit for it. I couldn't find a monochrome version of the new icon anywhere for my project, so I just made my own. I think it looks pretty good, personally.
Technically, I have the SVG published in this repo under the ISC license, but I just put it here so you can get it without having to search for it.

whoa this is amazing.
It would be awesome if there were a KDE plugin that could check what sorts of files are in a folder and try to assign one automatically.
Also, an org-mode unicorn would be numero uno for us emacs-heads. And a syncthing one too! (sorry to suggest work for you... :o )

I've never heard of the org mode one, but the unicorn is a nice visual element. Syncthing is another great suggestions. I'll add them to my to do list.
