Restricted to Gals and Pals Practice makes perfect

This is so amazing. I felt like my wrists were breaking last time I tried to do a cartwheel in my 30s. Major respect for the amount of pain this takes, especially getting through the falls.

u/cupcakebean 3h ago
My friend's niece asked her to do a cartwheel when she was almost 40. She did it but every single bone popped like popcorn. 🤣

u/No_Pause_4375 1h ago
I can do a perfect cartwheel at 40 but ask me to do a roundoff and ima need a panty liner first
21
u/Flamingo83 1h ago
my mom can still do cartwheels in her 70s but she said her round off days were over after her pregnancies.

u/RagnarsHairyBritches 2h ago
I pulled my groin and almost passed out the last time I did a cartwheel. I'd probably die if I tried it today.

u/fadesteppin 🌻Official Jill🌻 3h ago
I have lowkey wanted to see if I could still do a cartwheel but am not confident at all that my body would be able to survive the attempt unscathed lmfao. I'm 36 and was in cheer/dance many times throughout my middle school-high school days, but have a wrist and ankle injury from cheer in high school that didn't heal right bc my coach was a pos, and a busted knee with a kneecap that has dislocated about 6 times now. My knees audibly click when I walk up stairs. I would end up in the hopital 🥲

u/grinchbettahavemoney 3h ago
Yea I’m 37 and I cheered for a long time and my ankle and wrist are super fucked up and while this makes me really want to try doing a back walkover myself haha I remind myself that when I even lightly push off something sometimes my wrist acts like I just karate chopped something and failed lol.
I would probably end up in a cast22
u/fadesteppin 🌻Official Jill🌻 2h ago
Maybe all us former dancers/cheerleaders should hold a convention so we can wrap ourselves in bubble wrap + kinesiology tape, grab some thick ass padding, and spot each other the way kids are spotted in beginner gymnastics. It can be sponsered by Ace Bandages, Tiger Balm, and a league of orthopedic surgeons/sports medicine practitioners. It practically prints money!

u/Enlightened_Gardener 2h ago
Used to do gymnastics. We were taught to walk down a wall backwards to learn how to do bendbacks. Walked down the wall, got stuck, fell sideways, twisted shit.
I have since learnt that I’m actually hypermobile, which explains a lot. Pilates is my friend.

Good for her but please no one take too much inspiration from this without first making sure your upper body is ready lol I worked with a kid whose arm snapped in two doing a back walkover
25
u/cir49c29 2h ago
Oh yeah. I am super impressed by her. I'm about her size and my wrists would snap like twigs if I tried that. And my back would be spasming for weeks after the first attempt.

u/menina2017 3h ago
What??????
38
u/MaybeHarryPotter 2h ago
Since Reddit likes to pretend so much. A mistake at her weight could lead to a catastrophic injury.
18
u/menina2017 2h ago
Yes. It looked like she was being careful in her lead up but still yes. I have to be that person but I’m extraordinarily jealous she can pull that off at her weight. And here I am , i am not big, exercise everyday and I feel like that move is so impossible for me. I guess I can work on it like she did and stop whining lol 😂

That happened to me when I was in 2nd grade gymnastics! I told them I couldn't do it and they said I was just scared and to do it anyway, so I did and snapped my arm. Last gymnastics class of my life lol.

As someone who did gymnastics as a kid, back yonder when I was wee and lean, that final kick-over is tough. Doesn’t matter your size, it’s about finding the perfect amount of force to get you over without knocking you down. This was perfect, 10/10 effort to results.
ETA: That spring and jump up once she nailed it, 👌

I did gymnastics, tap, and ballet as a teen. I used to do handstand pushups.
Now at 45 I don't think I could do a cartwheel if 4 people operated my limbs.
She is impressive and it was wonderful to see her utter glee at success! And kudos to her man for cheering her on too.

She must be young with rubber bones because the way my spine would have snapped in several of these shots. My goodness!

u/ermaecrhaelld 2h ago
Oh man my back muscles cramped up just watching her back bend.

LMAO my first thought. My 35 yr old ass just had a back injury lifting a stupid barbel off the floor…. AFTER mobility and warm up lmao. Just nothing left in my body besides recovery time forever. Bless this girl!

u/sakuraj428 3h ago
Stoppp I'm so proud of her I'm crying 😭 I love how this whole family hypes her up. You know that's such a supportive, loving household for that baby to grow up in. I love to see it

The thing I love the most about this isn't that she did it, but that her little daughter watched her mom try and try and try and fail and get up again. Watched her dad be supportive and invested in this one tiny little thing that anyone could easily try once and give up on. There is no reason to do this except for your own sense of pride and joy in your own body. And she's instilling that in this little girl with every single attempt. 😭😭😭

u/SellWitty522 1h ago
This was what brought me joy. It was a whole family affair and it was beautiful to witness.

I honestly needed to see this. Fell on my ass twice during yoga this week and was feeling dejected. I’ll keep going strong!!

So inspirational! I am also going to follow her step by step procedure on how to do this!

Hell yeah that first time you do the thing and you realize you can totally do it again and it's not a fluke is THE BEST.

OMG, she’s so f’ing inspiring! I’m 52 and I’m gonna make learning to do a back walkover my new goal in life!

u/No_Pause_4375 2h ago
This is amazing. However, Im relatively in shape at 40, a former gymnast, and this is not something I'd feel safe attempting, particularly with no one spotting me. People keep saying their backs hurt watching it, but for me its my wrists. Im already working my way up to another ACL replacement, don't need to fuck with my wrists too.
Wall assisted handstands and then eventually unassisted handstands is much safer and they both have tremendous benefits for building strength and coordination. Thats what ive been working on.

u/NewtonsLawOfDeepBall 59m ago
I'm glad somebody said it. This thread is full of toxic positivity when this is clearly a person who narrowly avoided a debilitating injury because they were emulating shit they saw on tiktok and wanted to be applauded for pulling it off.

Quite Impressive. She is suuper lucky she didn't get hurt trying to perfect that.

Hell yeah family! I love this example of a family unit seeing you stay consistent, help you to keep going and celebrate in your successes together

u/CountessSockula 3h ago
Good for her! Even back in the day, I could never manage that. The best I could do was lay on the ground and come up into a backbend. All efforts to backbend from a standing position ended in failure and bruises. 🤕

Hell yeah!! I love the look on her face when she does the full flip the first time. I, on the other hand, would’ve probably broken every bone in my body

This is inspiring me to try a capoeira move that I was not sure of. I will practice first!

I couldn’t do this when I was 16, and I wouldn’t have the guts to try it so many years later. Love this!!

Woohoo!!!! I’m too chicken! I’d get hurt just thinking about attempting that.

Good for her! I'm inspired, but being in my 40's I have the wisdom to know I would break my wrist if I tried this. I miss being able to tumble around and try things.

As someone who took gymnastics as a teenager and was able to do multiple backflips into my 30s, back walkovers were some of the hardest things for me and I'm pretty sure I only did a handful. Massive respect.

u/doesanyuserealnames 12m ago
About 20 seconds from the end her husband is suddenly sitting there watching her and I had to go back and see if I just missed him 😅
Good for her, and love that her whole family supported her through the process 💕

Inspirational as this is... please don't try this at home.
With age and weight come more and more risks, and they're only exacerbated by unsafe practices. No spotter, no proper landing platform, around children. She was very lucky to not severely injure herself.
It'd be nice if we could not normalize recklessness like this...

I have to admit, I was cringing when I watched that. I was scared to death it was going to end in tragedy. Congrats for the woman who wouldn't quit. Amazing!
