Recently i have bought gyo and uzumaki from amazon. Uzumaki smells completely normal, but gyo smells like rotten marmalade. Was this intentional because the fish stink?

I was rereading Tomie after years of not touching it, and I noticed a piece of dialogue that I seemed to have missed during my first reading. SPOILERS FOR TOMIE: During the "Gathering" story, while Umehara is tied up, he says "You're still a teenager, aren't you?". And honestly, 628 pages into the Deluxe, it snapped me back to my senses. This entire time Tomie IS, or at least appears to be, a teenager. Ever since she was first murdered by her classmates in the first chapter. Yet Umehara is the only one that has noticed or even called this out? This changed my entire perspective of the manga. I could never form a solid opinion on Tomie before, but now it just feels like these men are just killing her to... Kill her? Tomie is such a deeply written character that I honestly don't know how to wrap my head around her. Tomie more or less IS still a teenager, both physically and mentally. She died as a teenager and never got the chance to mature or grow. I'm 100% not defending her actions, but I just don't know what to make of it.

Bought a drink from a milk tea shop near my house and was surprised to see them collaborating with Junji Ito's Maniac (is there a new movie that came out?).

Though I'm not sure if this is a good collab choice for a beverage... but I'm all for it lol.

I stumbled across Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, I've never heard of them before and I've never tried their stuff. However, I saw they have a collection of Junji Ito Perfumes. Which, I find myself curious to try out. I saw two for Tomie, one for Soichi, and one for the Fashion Model. They aren't badly priced but then I realized the bottles seem pretty small for the price. Granted, I don't normally use oils, so they may be the standard. Also, they don't list the exact notes put into it for all their perfumes. Mostly seems like they put out vibes of the perfume with a few key words that are likely notes within it. Anyway, rambling.

Has anyone tried them?? I'm particularly curious to try the Tomie's laughter and Tomie. I'm wondering if anyone here has tried them, how they smell, if it's worth it. I'm so curious to try them. Or if you've gotten any of the other ones, the soichi or the Fashion Model, I'd love to hear. Kinda curious about soichi, not to buy, but I'm not sure what 'rusty nails' smells like as far as a perfume oil goes lol. Also, curious how strong they are! If they're subtle or they radiate in the air.

(sorry if this has been asked before) Does anyone know what happened to the first episode of the series, Mansion of Phantom Pain? At first I thought HBO was releasing the eps in a different order but with the second ep release it doesn’t seem like it. I tried to find it online but all of the sites i’ve checked only show 11/12 eps (as it was released a few months ago in Japan). So does anyone know if this episode was actually released anywhere? Thanks!

I found a hardcover collection of all of the Tomie stories at my local library, and since Ito has been on my radar for a while and I’ve been getting more into horror (starting with Resident Evil 2 Remake), I decided, “oh screw it, why not” and borrowed the book. I devoured it in one sitting, and WOAH it was so bizarre that honestly it makes Hirohiko Araki’s use of body horror look rather tame. Overall I really liked it and it’s gotten me a little hooked on Junji Ito. The art and detail is amazing, and his stories are really interesting. I’m thinking that I’ll go and read either Uzumaki or some of the Soichi stories after this, Uzumaki seems really interesting as well. My library also has a copy of the cat diary, so I’ll read that too. I don’t really like horror movies or most horror games, since they feature designs and concepts that don’t interest me, and I don’t like jumpscares at all, they give me god-awful levels of anxiety. When I saw the Resident Evil movie recently, the starting quarter of the movie had my neck and lower back aching with muscle tension from how much stress I was storing there. But THIS is my kind of horror, the slow, atmospheric stuff, like RE2 Remake, or Reanimal. I don’t want horror that (only) serves to scare me, I want horror that makes me think about new ideas and captures my interest, and I’m so very happy that Ito-sensei’s manga has that for me. I haven’t been able to find manga that interest me for a while now; I’m a fan of several shonen manga/anime, but these days the genre feels so oversaturated that it’s lost my interest, and what do you know, now I’m turning to newer, different things. In terms of actual writing, I would give the Tomie collection an overall 7/10, since most are fairly straightforward short stories only loosely connected by certain characters (this is fine, that’s how it is supposed to be), but in terms of its art and how much it fascinated me, I give it a 10/10.

I think Tomie is really interesting as a concept because despite being a recurring character Ito found a way to use her in just about any setting, since she’s more like an infection than a single monster. The fact that people even tried to apply science and study to her is cool to me, how trapping her in acid could theoretically contain a Tomie by inhibiting her regeneration, or how burning her thoroughly enough can prevent her from regenerating as well. I don’t think that on my most mentally unstable days I could come up with evil Tomie saké. Utterly insane, and I love it. Probably my favorite monstrous version of her were the underwater barnacle-like Tomie, the way they have roots in the rock is really unsettling in a way I really liked. I think it’s also interesting to consider what it requires for a person to be immune to her effects, and I think that aside from being another woman (which isn’t even consistently the case given some of the stories), I wonder if a man that was gay or a person that’s asexual and/or aromantic would be affected by her. Food for thought, if you will.

Hi everyone! Happy October. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any thoughts on the new junji ito live action show on HBO. I had no idea it was coming but the first episode looks great 😃. I saw it on Sunday and it was about lovesickness. I hope they adapt Tomie next, they say there will be new episodes every Friday.
