Affordable Juneau in damage control mode
And I love to see it. Interesting exercise in mental gymnastics, per usual, in Rodell's monthly "anti-CBJ-at-all-costs" column. Affordable Juneau fucked around and is finding out. They squeaked through their bullshit initiatives because they put a lot of time and energy into promoting them with little to no pushback, including covering half the commercial real estate in this town in their posters. Now that the community has woken up and taken note, affordable Juneau's little exercise has backfired into increased sales tax. Which I'm all for, for the record, just enjoying watching them squirm.
Getting a little off topic, but each election season it increasingly strikes me how wide the political gap is between businesses and citizenry in this town. Most neighborhoods you see almost entirely progressive leaning political signs. But drive through a commercial zone, and it's the polar opposite. Voters should ask themselves why that is. Unless you're a business owner that cares only about profits and running a tax fraud operation (which believe me represents a significant portion of the profits for many businesses), chances are the candidates and propositions/ballot measures you see promoted on commercial properties are absolutely not in your best interests. Do you want higher profit margins for a handful of wealthy business owners, or a better community/state/country to call home?
