The definition of a pedophile is someone attracted to prepubescent children. So not a pedophile by that alone, nothing to do with age of consent. Still gross, but people ignorantly throw that word around.

A grown ass adult diddling A KID, who has no concept of sex, and has complete trust in them, is infinitely worse than an adult being with a teen who knows what sex is, and WANTS to do it, regardless of the difference in maturity and power imbalance

One is straight up rape without any ability to consent or concept of what happened, the other isn't

You can't compare a 5 year old to a 17 year old when consent in the USA ranges from 16 to 18 depending the state (as happens in most countries around the world)

No. All late 30s men with minors (aka kids) of any age is what's gross. Sure, 6 is much worse than 17, but 17 is not okay.

It should still get negative attention. Frankly, being appalled at the failure to distinguish types of predation of minors and not primarily the general behavior itself is suspect.

Why is it gross? Because current state law decided on an arbitrary age limit? The girl in this picture is objectively fucking hot, visually. Is it breaking the law that’s gross? It wasn’t illegal. Funny thing about definitions is that they actually mean what people generally agree they mean. After all, words are made up.

The vast majority of people in the Anglosphere believe it means an adult who has (or wants) sexual interactions with minors.

This is a good definition. Because a 38 year old with a 17 year old is a problem, and I wouldn't say something like "ACKSHUALLY, that Epstein associate was NOT a pedophile. He only had sex with an adolescent minor on the island, not a prepubuscent one. Very different!"

Both are atrocious, he should be in jail imo. But it is a very important difference, one is being SEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO LITTLE CHILDREN. The other is being a calculated predator. There are lots of 17 year olds who look like they are in their 20s and vise versa. It isn’t wrong to say that, however a normal person would immediately loose interest and feel uncomfortable knowing that someone they’re interested in was actually 17 instead of mid 20s. Men who seek that out are predators and evil but pedophile is the wrong word and using them interchangeably makes things worse a lot of the time because people do not take the crime seriously when you’re calling someone a pedophile for being with someone who visibly does not look like a young child.
